Even as an adult, I delight in reading Scooby Doo mystery adventures. What fun to come across the You Choose Stories: Scooby Doo series! There are twelve variations of the story for Scooby and the Gang.

The Ghost of the Bermuda Triangle takes place on a mystery cruise to... where else? The Bermuda Triangle, gulp. There are a few quick intro pages to the setting and fun with the gang and then the ghost appears and they are split up. At this point, the reader begins choosing the path of their adventure.

Yes, I went back and followed each one for a good time. Throughout the book, there are color illustrations to enjoy.

All told this was a great time and I recommend to beginning chapter readers and young at heart alike.

I love the idea of “choose your own adventure”. My son loved picking scenarios. I did like all the turns did actually lead to different outcomes and not just wind back to the same ending with different perspectives. There was at least one path that didn’t answer the question of who the ghost is though.

I wasn’t impressed with this book. I read every variation of this book, and some just didn’t make any sense. In one, Fred and Daphne go through a portal into another world for no other reason than just to say something different happened so there can be another ending. In another, Velma goes through a portal to another dimension, again just to have another ending. In multiple versions, there is overlap between characters, but that doesn’t overlap in what happens in another character’s story, which you would think it would. It’s pretty much just a bunch or short stories about the same ghost who turns out to be so many different people. I would have much rather read one really good Scooby story where I didn’t get to choose what happened instead of reading so many different bad stories and getting to choose what happens next. I’ve never been a fan of choose your own story books just for the fact that they are choppy and often don’t make sense just so there can be more options for the reader and this book definitely fell into that problem. I’m hoping other books in this series are better.

It's almost as if whoever wrote this never watched Scooby-Doo. Two (maybe three) of the story paths end with real ghosts. The great thing about the show is that it was NEVER real ghosts!

Scooby -Doo and the Mystery, Inc., gang are on a cruise ship shrouded in mysteries. When a ghost appears, the reader is plunged into the action as they decide what course of action to follow to help the gang uncover the mystery of the seagoing spook. The reader’s choices determine the outcome of the story, and readers may return to the story to explore twelve possible endings. In the process, the reader will need to determine if the ghost is the trick or a hit reality television show or whether aliens are onboard the ship or if a spirit really does inhabit the shadowy recesses of the ship!

Dialogue is in line with the characters introduced in the popular animated television shows featuring Scooby, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne, and Fred. Readers will enjoy the goofy humor and zany antics and situations of the gang, as well as the topical references to popular culture. Colorful, cartoon-style illustrations enliven the text and will be a draw for fans of the cartoon show.
