In the book of Revelation it mentions a scroll with seven seals. What if this scroll was hidden on earth? When an old man dies in Liverpool his flat is emptied by Joe and a strange looking book comes into his keeping. Soon he finds what trouble comes with the book when his friend Toby is tortured and killed. A man he recently met rescues him from possibly the same fate.

9 books146 followersI am a father of two great kids, Tammy (my daughter and youngest) and Calum (my son). They often drive me up the wall but I could never wish for better children. Both now grown and out working which makes me feel proud of them.
I was born and bred in Scotland, I was raise by my aunt who sadly has now passed away. My childhood was in the most part a learning experience in school and out.
My adult life has seen great periods of unemployment interspersed with soul destroying jobs working in factories. The one job I enjoyed was working at a local theme park.
I am married, as mention above, with two kids Calum and Tammy. My son sadly takes his imagination from me. His sister though is more like her mother both in looks and temperament, so don’t get in her bad books.
I have always enjoyed writing but have other hobbies such as jewellery making, DIY, playing computer games (who doesn’t these days), of course reading. Unfortunately money is often in short supply, as it is with most of us these days, so I have little in the way to spend on them but at least with the DIY I can save some until the kids spend it for me which never takes long does it.

The opening sequence of this book begins with the tragic death of an old man and the clearance of his flat under slightly suspicious circumstances, revolving around a particular book that was in the man's possession. This seemly innocent item quickly becomes the centre of a web of intrigue, myth and death as two groups of men seek to obtain this book and the secrets it holds, for reasons that gradually become clear as the story progresses.
Young has created a set of characters that will resonate with everyone, no matter who you are. There is the loveable rogue in Joe, a mis-directed young man, there are the classic good and bad guys and of the course the unexpected helpers that arrive at just the right time. And there is the hint of a great power/treasure/knowledge that is desired by all. Even though this is only a short read, it is absolutely packed with action, fear, joy, relief, faith, terror and a few angels and demons just for good measure. I don't want to say too much but you really must give this a go.

Couldn't finish. I just have no motivtion to read on the computer. I was almost halfway through it and still nothing to further the plot. Maybe if something actually happened, I might have had incentive to go back.

What a great start...easy to read with a good flow. I particularly like the lines, "...his memory had become filled with holes. They weren't gaping caverns of darkness, just momentary dark spots..." and "...blood pooled around his head like a halo..." Some good descriptions casting shadows of deeper meaning... I will read the rest of the story when I next fill my basket...but then I am a fan of Billy Young's writing so it'll be a pleasure to finish it. Well, now I have and it wasn't a disappointment. Being deeply rooted in 'reality' gave the fantasy elements a definite ring of truth. It was easy to read and I certainly enjoyed the touches of humour, particularly within the dialogue. It was full of riddles and myth and questions where us humans long for answers. There were some brilliant lines and fantastic descriptions, such as, '...acrid smell of cooking flesh mixed with the heavy choking fumes from the bubbling...' Overall, a good insight into the human condition /real lives, where the reader soon understands /relates to the characters involved - great pictures and an excellent story leaving even more questions at the end. Clever and thought-provoking...I liked it.
