Is the Friend really Kanna's father?! Will she still be able to stand up and fight, despite this anguishing news? Meanwhile, Koizumi Kyoko and Sadakiyo have gotten away from the Dream Navigators by the skin of their teeth, but as Yoshitsune once warned, these people will chase you to the ends of the earth… With Kanna in shock over the truth of her paternity, will she have the strength to go and rescue Koizumi? Also, back in the summer of 2002, Mon-chan succeeded in tracking down Sadakiyo and got him to commit to paper the truth about the Friend's identity and his actions. But to prove his loyalty to his trusted Friend, Sadakiyo took measures to ensure that the "Mon-chan Memo" stayed hidden. What exactly was "the Lie of 1970" and how far will the Dream Navigators go to prevent it from being revealed?

With this volume i scratched potential friend suspects from my list, and they are mon chan and fukubi and donkey, because you can always make a strong case that someone who is believed dead to be the one pulling the strings, but no i don't think its any of them anymore, and of course i scratched Sadakiyoshi last volume.
I also scratched Kenji i never believed he was dead, but now i have other reasons to believe that not only is he alive but he is not friend as well, i feel though based on what i found out that he might have given up the fight or something, probably we are looking at a kenji comeback in the near future.
Sadakiyo both victim of friend and a culprit and a murderer, i can't really forgive him for killing mon chan.
It was nice finally seeing manjoume insho in the 2014 era of the story, and see his ugly old face i hope he dies a horrible death.
Now though we have a new strong suspect of who friend really is and its yamane kun! all the squares tick for him he was kiriko's superior, they made the virus together, he had a fascination about her since he named the fish kiriko (fucking weirdo), so its probably him but lets see, you never really know for sure in these kinds of stories.
Now we talk about ESP both kanna and her father are ESP, and pretty good ones it seems, its how friend made a mindless cult to follow him, and listen to everything he says, and its how kanna trying to effect those around her to listen to her, and follow her lead to fight the friendship party, Now she really has a chance of changing everything, i just got a thought writing this though could it be that kanna will die, and that's why kenji will come back and fight?!
About the holy mother a new twist, like the savior who is now dead from the prophecy, looks like the friendship party intends to make their dream navigator sadistic bitch, the new holy mother for their plans to work.
Also another thought friend is really old now, could their intention be to make a new child of his, that will eventually rule the world in his place? since kiriko and kanna are a lost cause for them and they will never fit in their plan?
I am sure i could have written more, it was a great Volume! but i am satisfied with these thoughts and questions I've written here.

More of a filler volume, which any long series needs to drive the plot slowly with dropping hints such as "The Conspiracy of 1970?!?" What is that? Sounds ominous? We shall find out next time on Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys!!! Same time, same channel!

There was one big plot point dropped about Kiriko at the lab which was a jaw dropper, and whenever they bring in Kenji's music it's always a heartfelt moment. Those were some great highlights of this volume, along with Mon-Chan's note/research.

More great plot reveals in Volume 11 makes this a really fun volume to read!

We learn more about what happened to Mon-Chan and Maruo and who the Holy Mother is. I really enjoyed the scenes where Kanna learns more about her mother's past. We're introduced to new characters who help us learn even more about what took place in the past.

Kanna continues to be broody and angsty, which gets on my nerves a bit, although I did empathize with her struggle to make choices that would help her forget about her troubles and zone out from everything.

The only thing I could say after reading this is WOW WOW. This is definitely a master piece. Yeah there were parts in the book that were a little bit exaggerated or too much (especially towards the end). However, this story was so amazing and so well written that those parts do not even matter. The art was amazing, the characters, the story, everything fit really well with each other. One of my favorite manga of all times!

Gu ta la la =)!

Volume 11, which means we just reached the equator on this thrilling voyage. And I really don't know what to say that I haven't said before about this masterpiece from Naoki Urasawa.

This volume is full of surprises and huge revelations, especially concerning Kanna's mom/Kenji's sister... and I can assure you, you won't see it coming.

And what about History repeating itself, but now in 2015? I won't say more because, you know... spoilers.

Best manga ever.

Back on track with some interesting plot moves, especially coming from the very goofy previous chapter. Some plot conveniences but they can be forgiven at this point.

Kanna is shocked to learn that her father is none other than the Friend himself, leader of the Friend Society which her Uncle Kenji tried to protect the world from. As if that weren’t bad enough, her Walkman is broken, leaving her unable to hear Kenji’s voice when she needs to hear it the most. Taking her frustration out by playing video games, she afterward accepts a ride with three other gamers who are impressed with her skills. During the drive, a news bulletin tells of the escape of the Friend Museum director, along with student Koizumi Kyoko, in a Toyota 2000GT. Now the guys are on the watch for the old car.

Manjome is Friend’s right-hand man. Apparently, he is thought to have a harem, including one lady in particular, Takasu, director of the Dream Navigators, whom one of his underlings mistakes for a man. She has a meeting with Manjone, in which he reminds her that the upcoming Expo is what is important. That and making their Friend the president of the world. Manjome isn’t surprised to hear about Sadakiyo, and he knows he has a certain memo in his possession. The one left by the man known by his friends as Mon-chan. Takasu fears that with Otcho escaped from prison, Kanna’s powers awakening, and the memo being held in hostile hands, the Kenji faction may just learn about the lie of 1970! Manjome doesn’t seem concerned, and reminds her that she has agreed to carry the Friend’s child!

Meanwhile, at the nursing home, Koizumi and Sadakiyo learn that the home has been surrounded. Sadakiyo surmises that they are there to reject him. Surely that can’t be good? He remembers a meeting he had with Mon-chan years ago, and tells Koizumi how he ended up with the Mon-chan memo. He gives it to Koizumi to hold on to. Kanna’s arrival at the same nursing home can’t be a coincidence, can it? In evacuating the residents to safety, Kanna is mistaken for her mother by a former teacher, and is shocked to learn things about her that she didn’t know. Such as her mother once dreamed of being a famous bacteriologist. The teacher tells Kanna her mother was good, to believe in her.

Kanna ends up at an old cinema, which has old film footage that includes her mother. She won’t give up on looking for her, even though it seems like she may be involved in what is going on now. Koizumi is being pressured to pick out which face in the yearbook belongs to Friend, since she caught a glimpse of him as a child, but she can’t tell one face from another.

I can’t even begin to describe how exciting this is all getting. So much going on, so much new information, and yet so much needs to be learned. Maybe we’ll even find out where Kanna’s mother, Kiriko, has been all these years and what she’s been doing. Is she the good girl her former teacher claims, or is she on the side of the Friends? Only time will tell.

The 11th volume of "20th Century Boys" features more action and suspense and also new revelations that many people have been waiting for and definitely will have some major impact in the next volume.

As always, Naoki Urasawa knows how to grab the attention of the reader. His artwork and how he is able to capture the sense of action and emotion through the pages is magnificent and so far, this series has been engrossing and highly enjoyable thus far.

Needless to say, readers are being setup for something huge and I definitely can't wait for the next volume. Overall, a gripping and exciting eleventh volume of Naoki Urasawa's "20th CENTURY BOYS". If you haven't started already and you are looking for a deep, well-drawn, well-written manga series, Naoki Urasawa's "20th CENTURY BOYS" is highly recommended!

Another excellent volume. The story had at times seemed to drag to me with the plot extended to three different time periods, and what felt like somewhat arbitrary jumps from one to another. However, this volume is focused almost entirely in 2015, the furthest future timeline, and all the flashbacks are brief and immediately shed light on the primary, 2015 timeline. Very little of 2000 or the earlier 1970's in this one, but the focus is a good thing, and when we are back in those timelines, the material is essential to fully understanding the exact moment we were last in 2015, or echoes powerfully the next moment the reader returns to 2015. Urasawa handles his work beautifully.

We finally get to see Kanna's mother and a shocking revelation. Though, for me it wasn't shocking at all. Since there were quite a few hints and clues laid out before pointing in this direction. Also Kanna's real power starts to wake up. She already made a big miracle possible, now lets see how she does it from here. Another mystery adds to the tab, as the higher ups of "Friends" party talk about "The lies of 1970". What does that mean?

This is a review of the entire series.

Synopsis: Humanity, having faced extinction at the end of the 20th century, would not have entered the new millennium if it weren't for them. In 1969, during their youth, they created a symbol. In 1997, as the coming disaster slowly starts to unfold, that symbol returns. This is the story of a gang of boys who try to save the world. Failed rock musician Kenji's memories of his past come rushing back when one of his childhood friends mysteriously commits suicide. Could this new death be related to the rise of a bizarre new cult that's been implicated in several other murders and disappearances? Determined to dig deeper, Kenji reunites with some of his old buddies in the hope of learning the truth behind it all.

Review: This is basically the manga equivalent of a Stephen King novel, channeling themes and plot devices from the likes of It, Dreamcatcher, The Running Man and quite a few others. A young group of friends that make an innocent promise which ends up creating the most dangerous cult in the world, a 'friend' turned into the world's greatest evil, a strange suicide that reunites a group of adults to solve a mystery from their childhood which ended up leading to an apocalyptic police state, clever use of cultural references, rock songs and historical allegories to tell the full story, extremely small actions resulting in extremely massive consequences, an eerie threat lurking in the shadows that may or may not be of supernatural origins, kids overthrowing a totalitarian regime and rebelling against society while fighting against a sinister threat that no one else knows about; sound King enough for ya?

Though I don't think it's quite as good as Monster by the same author, it's definitely very close. It's a masterpiece of intricate plotting, interweaving narratives, deep character development and psychological complexity. The villain's presence is suffocating from the very beginning while remaining mysterious and terrifying until the final chapter. It's intense, it's relatable, it's horrifying and it's an emotional rollercoaster. Be careful who you call your friend and be careful of the promises you make. You might just end up causing the end of the world.

As usual, great writing and art.
Over the past few volumes, I’ve lost a significant amount of interest in/drive to read this series as who the friend is is no longer too compelling/interesting to me - we know he likely isn’t an adult featured in the 2000 - 2014 sections of the book.
There are other unanswered questions like where Kiriko is, if Kenji (or other friends) are still alive, but I just don’t feel that invested in those answers after ~2200 pages, and there just hasn’t been the amount of character growth or insights I’d expect after this length.
Kanna is “coming into her power” and becoming more of a leader (and occasionally willing to accept some help/trust others while still functioning mostly as a lone wolf), rookie cop has been holding his own more, Yoshitsune is doing the same as he’s been for years but has more confidence. That’s about all I’ve noticed, but maybe I’ve overlooked things. But, the tight writing and well done art keep me reading.

While I’m interested to see what happens with this newly introduced 2015 apocalypse plan, outside of that, we know (for the most part) what happened Bloody New Years Eve, what most of Kenji’s group are up to now, etc.

I’m curious how this vol. can only be the halfway point of the series, and how much more content can fill 11 more volumes/another 2200 pages.

Kanna manages to overcome the desperation after finding out the truth about her parents. That does not stop her from going berserk on one of the "Friend's" controllers. Soon we find Koizumi and Kanna joining their forces and finally escaping the "Friend's" ruthless prosecutors. Unfortunately people die in this story all the time and this issue is no different, "Friend's" ruthlessly exterminates everyone who does not smile in the sickly "Friend's" way.

As story progresses we follow Kanna as she searches for her mother. As she finds hers hospital where we started to work after leaving Kanna with Kenji truth of what was going on strikes her hard. Shogun, always two steps ahead storms the pharmaceutical director's convoy and learns that behind "Friend's|" life saving vaccination that earned him trust of the world and total control of Japan but also good part of the world, lies something very sinister.

Art as always is beautiful, pure joy for the eyes.

Highly recommended.

More of a ★★★★½ star chapter for me still amazing none the less, but the continuous intrusive ways in how the story unfolds with Kana reuniting with yoshitsune and finding out her mother's where abouts through sadakiyo being a school teacher really is fantastic writing especially from the perspective of how he is with the friendship party and all. Art has displayed quite well continuing from other volumes, like for example Urasawa ability to draw in such a beautiful detail of realism in sadakiyo's car he drew being burned was quite eye catcher with again another many aspect of this great manga is the detail.

Receiving a bomb of truth when she least expected it made Kanna numb for a little while. On the bright side, now she's keener to know where her mother is which I think was shadowed by what her Uncle Kenji did for everyone. In this volume, we'll learn why her mother was absent all of Kanna's life. The web of mysteries got tangled and more of the past was revealed.

A bit slow compared to the previous volume but it is necessary for everything to settle down and the plot diverge into more questions and answers.

Things are happening! Kanna has just found out who her father is. She joins Kyoko, Sadakiyo and Yoshitsune in the standoff against Takasu and the Friends. We find out what happened to Mon-Chan. Kanna goes in search of more information about her mother. And more information about the group's old classmates becomes clear. The art is, as always, oustanding, and Urasawa paces the drama and tension perfectly.

Everytime I read one of these,I go insane because of the plot twists and the incredible character development and the awesome plot progression.Every volume adds more mysteries and builds on different characters and I just love it.This one had a massive role on Sadakiyo and a doctor named Yamane and he is the reason for the cliffhanger ending ofc ofc! This one also had more depth on to Kanna’s mother! One of the best volumes in the series so far so far!

7.5/10
Half way through the series and Urasawa keeps adding new characters and related mysteries, while other characters's mysteries are revealed (and they often leave the stage being murdered). This manga is a machine of suspence and twists. The heroine Kanna, here in existentialist crisis, is growing on me.
