i have this thing where if something disturbs me i have to stare at it or hold it in my mind until it becomes easier to comprehend. aftersun is maybe the most devastating film i’ve ever seen. for several days after watching it i woke up abruptly in the middle of the night, haunted by callum and unable to push this film from my mind. i am amazed the experience is just the same on the page.
It's nice that we share the sky. (...)Well, sometimes at playtime I'll look up to the sky and if the sun is out, I'll think about the fact that you can see the same sun. So that even if we aren't in the same place, we kind of are you know?
I’m amazed at Charlotte Wells’ ability to create such a heartbreaking beautiful soul crushing story with such subtle details. If you haven’t seen this movie please watch it. You will never be the same again.
Important to note that this was written by Charlotte Wells as everyone has stated before me. Now that that is out of the way, I can say that, without a doubt, this a beautiful script. I watched this movie two days ago and have been entranced by it since. Every time I watch a show or read a book, all I can think about is how the writing, the acting, the directing, will never be as good as Aftersun. Something about me, is that I'm a film student who wants to pursue a career in writing film. So when I watched this movie, I just knew I had to read the screen play and analyze my favorite parts. When you read the screen play after watching the film, it's like you have the film in your hands. It's almost as if it makes the movie a tangible object that you now have the power to understand and analyze. The film itself is absolutely gorgeous and heartbreaking and the script is no different. Each detail explained within the script adds more depth to each scene in the film. All in all, great.
I'm surprised by how different this script is compared to the final product. Reading this gave me so much insight on the film and made me realise small aspects that I deemed pointless and overlooked. Even though this screenplay is wonderfully written, I much prefer what the film has become.
read this script for screenwriting class, first time reading one and it was interesting + i feel like it’s gonna make me watching the movie after this better
A literal masterpiece - both the screenplay and film. Absolutely broke me but its brilliance is undeniable. A true work of art that leaves such a long-lasting imprint ❤️
