Regina Carlysle is an award winning, multi-published author. She likes writing that is hot, edgy, and often humorous, and puts this trademark stamp on all of her stories. Regina lives in west Texas with her husband of 25 years and counting and is a doting, fawning, and over-indulgent mother to her two kids. When she's not penning steamy erotic tales or hot contemporary stories, she's indulging in long chats with friends who help her stay sane and keep her laughing.

The third book in the Texas Passions series. Very heavy on the steam and very little "suspense". A short, 91 pages long, moving at a rapid pace to fit all the steam in. Of course, being so short the characterization and plot development suffer a bit.

Aren't the Christmas holidays just so delicious? It means more time for me to read. Lucky me and then some. Yesterday I reviewed Edge of Nowhere, and today I've read Eagle's Refuge.
It must be so horrible having a father who ignores the fact you’re even alive. This is what Mac Moreno has put up with his whole life, so imagine how he feels to inherit one third of a ranch when his father dies. I mean, what? The old guy didn’t care…did he? Mac also inherits a half brother and half sister. Whoa! The poor guy has much to think about, right? And with the lack of a nice woman to settle down with, and him living in a room out back of the club he owns, he’s got a pretty sad state of affairs going on.
Callista arrives in town, and her beauty, inside and out, sweeps Mac off his feet. She has troubles of her own—a creep of an ex for one…Jeez, what an ass!—and Mac intends to help her forget the sad and hurtful parts of her past.

Well, I’ve gotta tell you, Mac is one super-hot cowboy dude who’ll have you swooning as much as Callista. He’s an Alpha, but not the chest-beating kind that puts a girl off. Oh no. He’s caring, protective, soft-hearted, and oh so in love with Callista that you wish you had your very own Mac Moreno.

It isn’t all about the sex either (and that is sensual, hot, and “God I need some air here!”). There are issues many of us have to deal with at some point in our lives, so therefore I related to the couple as they got to know one another better.

I particularly liked Eagle’s Refuge because of certain elements in the tale that have parallels and meanings other than what they actually are. You’ll understand when you read it. There are some meanings that are special and really quite heart warming, and I finished this tale with a sigh, glad for the happy-ever-after but sad it had come to an end. (Damn! ß That is what I said, my friends!)

My verdict is the same as always. I haven’t been disappointed with a Regina Carlysle tale yet. So, all that’s left for me to say is my signature: I love Regina Carlysle books, because I’m a fan, man!

Kathy’s Review:

Eagle’s Refuge by Regina Carlysle is a fun and sexy read.

The illegitimate son of wealthy rancher Joe Morgan, Mac Moreno grew up on the wrong side of the tracks with his loving mother Elena. Now the owner of a successful honkytonk, and co-owner of his deceased father’s ranch, Mac is struggling to overcome the rejection he received from his father, and he keeps an emotional and physical distance from his half siblings, Leah and Dash. He is not looking for a lasting relationship when he meets Callista “Callie” Hill, but he quickly discovers that love sometimes sneaks in when you are not looking for it.

Tired of running from her stalker ex-husband, Callie is settling down permanently in Morgan’s Creek. Her relationship with Mac becomes more serious than she expects when her ex-husband’s actions become increasingly violent, and Mack, Dash, and Leah offer Callie their assistance.

Callie and Mac are well-developed protagonists and Ms. Carlysle brings them vividly to life. The plot twist with Callie’s ex-husband provides added insight into Callie’s and Mac’s characters, and it is also acts as a catalyst in deepening their relationship with one another and Mac’s family. Mac and Callie’s relationship is realistic and extremely passionate.

Eagle’s Refuge by Regina Carlysle is a steamy, fast-paced novella. Callie is a strong character who stands up to the equally strong Mac, and their relationship is absolutely delightful. A charming epilogue puts the finishing touches on this heartwarming three book series.

I recommend the whole trilogy of the Texas Passion series! I read them all in a row and already miss the characters and the ranch there. I so loved how the theme of 'who did it' ran from book one til three and it was a perfect suspense, with sizzling romance!
