I don't normally have anything against Disney, but this book was crap. Alivia didn't like many of the stories, the English was horrible - did Disney not consider that a book for children should have good grammar? If you didn't know the movie in some of them you couldn't even follow the story. We won't be sucked into the mega-marketing-machine. We switched over to reading Alice in Wonderland instead.
A great collection with dozens of stories that are wonderful to read out loud and share with loved ones. This is a hardcover book so it makes a great addition to the treasure trove I keep handy.
When my brother and his wife traveled, I had to babysit my 3 beautiful nephews for a week, and in that time, we had a lot of fun reading this book. It was so cute because they would actually look forward to storytelling time and they'd sit around me, cross their legs with their hands on their chin, waiting lol. A lot of good memories, missing those days
If you're looking for the Cliff Notes version of Disney movies to book, this is the book for you. The stories are fleshed out a little more than what takes place in the movies. Each page has a small graphic from the movie, which is a really nice touch.
Stories included in this collection: Cinderella, Beauty & The Beast, Snow White, Lion King, Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, 101 Dalmatians, Peter Pan, Pocahontas, Lady & The Tramp , Pinocchio, and a few more that I can't think of off the top of my head (there are 23 in total).
There are two more book collections. I am hoping that they include the newer Disney movies that we've all come to love.
I enjoyed many of the stories in this book. This collection included many of my favorite stories as well as many of the stories that I don't like as well but they were all fun to read. All the stories summarized the movie they were based on but all of the stories could have been longer. They were all really short so they left out huge chunks of information in order to make the stories as short as possible. The pictures were all really good but there were a lot of pages that had pictures that didn't go with the words that were on that page. This book was good but it could have been better with some changes.
Wow! This collection is amazing!!!! It has all the classic Disney stories, and the text is simplified perfectly for young readers to understand without skimping on the main plot and characters. This is perfect for any child’s library.
Read quite a few of these to my Special Ed class as we are doing a Mixed Up Fairy Tale unit. I will probably continue reading more to them to finish off the year!
I really, really enjoy my Disney fairytales. I enjoyed reading the shortened versions of each and every one. I am so glad I purchased this book and was able to read it cover to cover.
A cute collection with big font and very short versions of classic Disney tales. The only thing is that certain big plot details are cut out for time (example, we never hear about Bambi’s mom dying).
The Disney version of Cinderella is one of my favorites. It tells the story of a girl who loses her mother, and her father remarries a new wife. The stepmother and her two daughters take advantage of the girl, named Cinderella, making her do all of the chores and wait on them hand and foot. The stepmother is eager to have one of her daughters marry the prince who is looking for a wife. The daughters are to attend a fancy ball. Cinderella is technically not allowed to attend the ball, but with the help of her animal friends and her fairy godmother she is able to attend and she is the fairest maiden there. As the clock strikes midnight, Cinderella must return home before the magic wears out, leaving her glass slipper behind. The prince fell for the maiden at the ball, and demanded that the glass slipper be tried on everyone’s foot to find the maiden. The story ends with the glass slipper fitting Cinderella and her being able to leave her stepmother and stepsisters to marry the prince and live happily ever after. Cinderella is a classic fairy tale that many children have heard. I believe that literature like Cinderella that has many versions of the story, allows children to see stories written in different perspectives, and see how stories can change/adapt over time. One of my favorite movie versions of Cinderella is Ever After starring Drew Barrymore. I think that it is similar story to the Disney version that I grew up with, and have heard many other fairy tales by Hans Christian Anderson, and this one gives the best real life example of the story of Cinderella.
Growing up I was a huge Disney fan so this storybook collection had everything I liked in it. There are 23 mini Disney stories put together into a big collection. A few of the stories include: 101 Dalmatians, Peter Pan, Pocahontas, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Alice and Wonderland. Each page includes a small illustration that takes up about a quarter of the page. The font of the text is very large to make it easier to read. The illustrations are scenes from the movies but printed as pictures. This story book is very lengthy but it makes a good bedtime story and can last for a while. I used to read one story every night before I went to bed and I would look forward to bed time to read the next story. The cover of the book captures some characters from the story as well as sparkles all around them which makes the book appear magical.
I read this over and over as a young child. I went to revisit my childhood bedroom, and while so much had changed, so much truly had stayed the same. I was looking at the bookshelf and pulled out this old thing and had to take it with me. I do not remember every word of every story, but I have a lot of memories with this book. Sitting on my bed reading this and learning to read. If you are a parent looking to get your kid into reading, this is a wonderful addition!
Each of the kids have loved this one over the years. It summarizes many of the best Disney movies and makes a clear moral statement about friendship, making good choices, etc. We read this one a lot!
All 23 stories in this book are great. It is the traditional Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast, or even the Three Little Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf. These stories would be great to read to your younger kids.
