A spellbinding, action-packed book covering three exciting episodes of the hit TV show!
The powerful enchantress Morgause arrives in Camelot. Set on destroying the bond between Uther and his son, she revives the seven deadly Knights of Medhir.
While Arthur and Merlin ride out to face the Knights, everyone in Camelot is plunged into a deep and impenetrable sleep - everyone but Morgana. Desperate for a cure, Merlin is forced to beg for the Great Dragon's help, but it comes at a price: the Dragon's freedom.
Why has Morgana escaped the effects of this powerful magic? And once free, will the Great Dragon wreak its vengeance on Camelot once and for all?
Colin Brake is an English television writer and script editor best known for his work for the BBC on programs such as Bugs and EastEnders. He has also written spin-offs from the BBC series Doctor Who. He currently lives and works in Leicester.
Brake began working on EastEnders in 1985 as a writer and script editor, being partly responsible for the introduction of the soap's first Asian characters Saeed and Naima Jeffery. From there, he went on to work as "script executive" on the popular Saturday night action adventure program Bugs, before moving to Channel 5 in 1997 to be "script associate" on their evening soap Family Affairs.
In the early 2000s, Brake wrote episodes of the daytime soaps Doctors and the revival of Crossroads.
Away from television, Brake had his first Doctor Who related writing published as part of Virgin Publishing's Decalog short story collection in 1996. He then had his first novel Escape Velocity published by BBC Books in February 2001 as part of their Eighth Doctor Adventures range based on the television series Doctor Who. At the time, Brake was quoted as saying how appropriate it was that he was now writing for Doctor Who, as he was briefly considered as Eric Saward's replacement as script editor on the show - a job that eventually went to Andrew Cartmel instead.
Brake followed Escape Velocity with the Past Doctor Adventure The Colony of Lies in July 2003, and then with the audio adventure Three's a Crowd from Big Finish Productions in 2005. His Tenth Doctor Adventure The Price of Paradise was released in September 2006. He has also written an audio for their Bernice Summerfield range, and a short story for their Short Trips range.
Honestly out of all the Merlin books I’ve read this one was by far the best one. 10/10 I loved it and it was a bit longer than the other ones I’ve read. Really enjoyed it as it had some sadder moments from the show especially with balinor and Merlin. Not sure why the dragon would attack Camelot (I even wondered this in the show) and try to kill Arthur when the dragon knows Arthur is going to unite Albion one day? Idk I still loved it nonetheless. Happy New Year’s Eve 💞 great book to end 2019 on (:
This took so long if only because I had been in one of the worst reading slumps I had experienced. Still in it I think but that could be because I keep finding other stuff to do like knitting, drawing, or watching Netflix.
It's kinda cool that there was two stories in one binding. I guess if you had to put two together 'Fires of Idirsholas' and 'The Last Dragonlord work well... though they could've ACTUALLY split the two up within the book instead of having it just start in the next chapter.
As a huge fan of the show, I did like the book. It was a faithful retelling of the episodes from the Fires of Idirsholas to the season finale, the Last Dragonlord. That, I'm afraid, is about all the good I can really say about this book. The retelling was SOO faithful, that the book added very little to the story. I was hoping for more side scenes that weren't in the show but could have embellishedthe plot some. This gave none of that. There were some interior monologue additions, characters thoughts, but other than that, nothing new.
The thoughts were good, and I'm glad I did read the book, but I think it could have been so much better. Getting into the characters' heads was nice, but entirely too brief. I felt like the book was rushed, just to get the stories in print and out to the adoring public. I wish they would have taken more time to write a better book. Being a diehard fan, I'll probably whip out my Kindle and read the others that are available, just because I love Merlin.
But I will ENJOY fanfiction stories with thought and descriptions beyond the well-known episodes far more.
Although this book had two episodes covered instead of just one, it was a really good read! There wasn't as much back story and extra scenes, but the ones that were did provide great insight into the characters thoughts and motivations.
There's only one more book left in the series, which is a shame, because I've enjoyed reading them a lot. I'd definitely recommend them to fans of the series 'Merlin'
Well here is another book of the Merlin series that is so like the TV, I've totally enjoyed it! Th stories are so real as you read and you feel like you are there in the boo yourself. 10 out of 10!
