When the Hoax Busters is canceled, its star and creator Kristin Daniels is determined to turn things around and figures debunking the biggest most famous of hoaxes in the world is just the thing to get her TV show back on the air. So Kristin sets off to Scotland to take on Nessie. In the small town on the famous Loch, she meets a gorgeous mysterious stranger Liam, and stumbles onto evidence of a serial killer - or maybe Nessie's taken a turn to the dark side . Either way, it's not long before our professional skeptic is starting to suspect that maybe this time the truth behind the 'hoax' doesn't involve either tricks or science, but she just may take that secret to the grave --since the killer has Kristin in his (or her) sights.

I loved Moon Cursed. I loved the tormented Liam and the chemistry between Liam and Kristin, who has her own sad past as well. I loved the glimpses of Scotland and bits of myth author Handeland brings to the story - this has always been a trademark of her Nightcreatures books - and I enjoyed knowing that was going to be some real woo woo stuff without knowing whether supernatural element was going to be evil like Handeland's earlier werewolves or something else entirely. Fans of Handeland's earlier books will appreciate an appearance by Edward and a tie-in to the Jager-Suchers, but the story still stands on its own even for those who haven't read any others in the series.

The best part of Moon Cursed though is that the story and the setting give this paranormal romance a really fresh feel. I hope Handeland doesn't stop here - I'd love to see another story set in an exotic locale and there's a whole world of myths just waiting to be explored.

I really thought I was walking along the streets of Scotland. LH described the bright greens of the grass, the sand colored Loch, and quaint buildings so well I could see them in my head.
Kris goes to Scotland to reveal that "Nessie" is just a hoax, but when she arrives she starts to realize that there is something in Loch Ness. On her first day she runs into Liam, who promptly kisses her like she has never been kissed before. When she goes into town the next day she finds that no one knows who the mysterious man is, and they try to make her think she saw a ghost.
She soon realizes that there are missing girls and even "falls" over a dead body, and the murderer is trying to blame the deaths on Nessie. The townsfolk swear that Nessie has never been violent and seem to feel the need to protect "her".
I enjoyed this book so much I read it in 1 day! I recommend it to all PNR lovers.

Hm.

Kris Daniels has been lied to so often that she made a career out of busting myths in her Hoax Hunters reality show. But the station isn’t picking the series up for another season, just as Kris decides to tackle the Loch Ness Monster. She decides to go anyway but lets the locals believe she’s writing a children’s book since they’re not likely to want to help someone who if successful, would destroy their tourism business.

She soon comes to learn that there is a conspiracy among many of the townspeople and no one admits knowing Liam Grant, the man she’s instantly attracted to who saves her life. Women are dying and it’s looking like Nessie, benign for so long, might be changing her ways.

This novel takes a turn in the Nightcreature series, which for the most part has focused on werewolves until now. Will we be seeing a new direction; a wider range of creatures for Edward Mandenauer and his Jäger-Suchers to be hunting? Different legendary monsters are discussed as Edward recruits Kris to keep him in the loop with what’s happening in Drummadrochit and she’s forced to accept that legendary monsters do exist.

The story is packed with mystery, suspense and romance and the author does a fine job of keeping a balanced flow of all three throughout the book. The freshness of the series, given a serious boost in Marked by the Moon, continues with this latest book.

I adore the Nightcreature’s series, the newest addition is great. Although Ms. Handeland has strayed away from her first person POV writing in this series, she still writes mostly from the heroine’s POV which keeps the hero as a mystery.

I don’t normally quote sayings from books, but there is one scene where the heroine is describing another character and says “his hair - the unfortunate color of Orangutan” had me LOL

Disclaimer: despite the negative comments below, I did enjoy the story by itself.

In this book the series travels with Kristin Daniels all the way to Lock Ness, Scotland. She’s the host of a TV show, Hoax Hunters and in order to revive her ratings has decided to take on debunking Nessie. While I love the Scottish atmosphere and the mystery Kristen discovers behind the legend. But some of the story is a little bland. This basically a serial killer mystery. Who’s killing the missing girls? And it feels like it’ getting away from the original series premise.

I understand that Edward, et al is in hiding, but Kristin’s not even a legitimate supernatural hunter. Ian was a member of the Nighthawk hunters and Alex was rogue J-S. So at least they could have been in the original J-S group, but this one feels like Ms. Handeland just wanted to go to another country and Nessie was handy. Let’s get back to the wonderful beginning story type. Seeing the hiding J-S’s in action would be great.

Though I enjoyed her witty comments, Kristen, as an investigator, is very impractical, foolhardy and disorganized. Liam, while he’s gorgeous and has an interesting past, is too melancholy for someone who’s supposed to be the ‘Protector of the Lock’. As for the secondary characters. The townsfolk are too obviously hiding something, though I like Jamaica. Dougal is too obviously up to something. And we knew either Kristen’s dad or brother would be involve somehow or they wouldn’t have been mentioned. And Lola was almost completely unnecessary.

Quick Thoughts: 1)Edward seems to be all over the place, even in a computer. Which is weird since before he’s always been so behind the times, culturally. Now that the J-Ss are in ‘hiding’ they’ve spread out to other countries. He seems to be magical in his traveling

Fave Scenes: Edward and the drawer, Liam meeting Marty, Kristen meeting Nessie and ‘Come out. Come out. Where ever you are?’

This book didn't have as much fanfare as Handeland's other Nightcreature books. Not that it's a specifically a bad thing or says anything bad about the book in general, it just is.

This is the tenth installment in the Nightcreature's series, and as the 9th book for told, Handeland is definitely branching out from the normal perimeters of her series. You could kind of see it in her last novel, that the next few book would be quite in line with the others, and maybe she should have done so slower instead of jumping in, but she did have the 9th book to back her, and never the less the book really did live up to Handeland's usual writing style.

This book started off at a slow pace but picked up interest quickly with the wonderful setting and interesting characters.

On first glimpse of Kris, our main lady, the world that pops up is cynical, she was very hot not to believe in any kind of supernatural. Which makes one wonder why she is so hot to call it fake.

Liam, our main man, lives up to every aspect of our authors usual in men, devastatingly sexy, smart, and well, has a secret. Doesn't everyone?

The book is very straight forward, while still leaving a few mystery's to entertain the readers, as well as quick, if sometimes shocking character developments.

One thing that need mentioning is Edward, yes we do get a glimpse of our old monster hunter, though he doesn't quite seem the same. But we do get more details on what is happening to him and his group of hunters.

This book is a very good on day read and a must read for new and old Handeland/Nightcreature's fans.

Its been a while since I fell in love with Lori Handeland and her Nightcreature novels but the quality of this series has not declined one bit over the years. Lorti keeps finding new/more legends to explore in her books, and putting her own unique twist on them. She also creates the most delectible men .

In Moon Cursed, Lori focuses on the elusive Loch Ness monster, a legend that's never been proven - or debunked. Kristin Daniels, a soon-to-be-unemployed myth-buster for a PBS cable show, wants to prove Nessie a hoax and catch whoever is perpetuating the myth even tho she understands that this would annihilate the tourist business in local Drumnadrochit. When she arrives, she finds herself in the middle of an investigation of a serial killer. Worse, she is confronted by Edward, the ancient man who runs the Jager-Suchers, the monster killers.

While reading MC, I found myself thinking that Liam (Kris's local interest) may just be my favorite male lead ever. Certainly he's way up there. But then I began to recall all the incredibly interesting and lucious men who've graced Lori's stories and now I'm not sure. Regardless, there is magic between Kris and Liam that I was reluctant to see end. And I've been drawn into how Lori has crafted her mythological legend, if that's not an oxy word combo right there.

So Edward loses another monster but I've gained another great read.

Moon Cursed by Lori Handeland

Lori Handeland had me at the beginning with the words: "The first recorded sighting of the Loch Ness Monster was by Saint Columba in AD 565. The most recent occurred just last year."

Kristin Daniels was the host of a television program called Hoax Hunters, which has just been canceled.

She thought if she debunked the mystery for the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland, that would prove the world would want the film.

Kris has been alone since her mother died and her brother and father left, she did not know where they were but knew she would be fine all alone in Scotland.

Right away she meets Liam Grant by the Urquhart Castle. He kisses her and this is just the beginning of her adventures. Dead bodies, legends of the monster, strange tattoos, love, feelings, unusual happenings and so much more. Some other characters are Jamaica who has a coffee shop, Alan Mac the constable, Dougal Scott a native of the area but from America and her landlady, Effy and Effy's brother.

This is a good read and for those who have read Lori Handeland, this is another wonderful book. She has done a good job on the accents, the mystery and the description of the location brings me right back to the Loch. I have been there and it is very beautiful. I did not see Nessie that day but I did bring back a souvenir of a ceramic Nessie.

I give this a four star.

Handeland never fails to find new and interesting ways to keep her series fresh. In this installment of her Night Creatures series, she takes a look at the Loch Ness Monster. Yes, it's a bit of a jump from the werewolves or some form of wolf monster she usually depicts, but this doesn't come as a surprise since Edward and his hunters have been implying that there are more than just one kind of monster out there.

I like the lead lady, Kristen quite a bit in this book. She was adventurous, plucky and tenacious. She also had intelligence and even remorse at times.

I liked the legends and the mythos Handeland explored with the book and I liked that it kept me guessing.

My only gripe about this book is the God awful written accents! I get that the story takes place in Scotland. I am perfectly capable of imagining a Scottish accent without all the horrible misspelled words and apostrophes. Reading it was jarring to my mind and often came across as Irish, which made the dialogue very frustrating to read at times. The story itself is near perfect, and would have been if not for the accent dialogue.

You know there just aren't enough books that deal with the Loch Ness Monster. For some reason this mythical creature is interesting to me. So when I this character heads to Scotland to debunk this mystery I was happy.

The town where most of the action lives was charming and filled with eccentric characters. As the story goes on you realize just why these people are so eccentric, but it just makes you love them more.

Kris was a fun person, her past makes it really hard for her to trust people. So it was interesting when she came to the small town and every one was in her business right away. I loved how she met Liam. The odd ball encounter just made for a great mystery. Liam was fun too. You knew something was off with him, but not quite sure what it was. Soon you realized what was going on and things started to make sense.

I thought it was very easy to pick out the bad guy. I also was able to figure out what the ending would be. In the end it didn't matter as I really liked all the characters and wanted to see what they would do in each situation.

Kris is in Scotland trying to prove that the Loch Ness monster is nothing but a hoax. While she's there though, young women keep turning up dead or dying around the lake, clearly the work of a sea monster. And then there's the mysterious Liam Grant who keeps mysteriously popping up everywhere, saving Kris's life and kissing her breathless.

In a word, this book is unique. It certainly isn't every day that your shape-shifting monster is the Loch Ness monster! I like this series because it engages the attention and never lets up. I did notice that I say that with a little less confidence for this story as opposed to previous ones and I attribute it to the author's sudden shift from first person to third person. Still a good book, but for me an adjustment. I loved the hero and his background (once we learn it) - he really was a mystery. And I expected the heroine and her skepticism to irritate, but her switch to belief was fairly seamless, even if it was quick.

This latest book in the NightCreature novels by Lori Handeland has American Kristin Daniels traveling to Scotland on her own money to prove that the Loch Ness Monster known as Nessie is a hoax for her PBS show Hoax Hunters.

After being set up in a cottage by the Loch, Kristin finds herself captivated by the sexy and mysterious Liam Grant, who can disappear into the shadows. Stumbling one night across the dead body of a female tourist, Kate finds another mystery, and she's approached by the leader of the Jager-suchers to use her fact finding skills to see what type of killer might be loose: man, or monster!

This was a good read! Loved the mystery behind Liam, and Kate meets some other interesting characters from the town near her cottage. Since this is a paranormal romance, there's also some fun sizzling moments between Liam and Kate as well!

Okay, I finished the book, and I have to say that I was underwhelmed. It did hook me at first because of the mystery involved. But the answer to the mystery became pretty clear way before the end of the book. And, to me, the answer wasn't all that compelling. In fact, I didn't like the "legend" at the heart of the mystery, and I was disappointed when I realized that was the direction the story was going. In the end, it just seemed silly to me - and not in a good way. Plus, the final future of the two main characters seemed pretty shaky. All the hero had going for him at the end of the book was good looks - and I mean that literally. I would have liked to have learned more about how they made things work...

I have always liked Lori Handeland's books in the past, but I do not think this was one of her better efforts.

Moon Cursed is book #10 in the Nightcreature Novels. Kristin Daniels who is the host of a cable TV show Hoax Hunters decides to debunk the Loch Ness Monster.

After arriving in Scotland she sets out for the village that sits on the side of the Loch where Nessie is seen.

She soon begins to realize there is more to the Loch Ness Monster than just a giant animal. For one thing the town is fiercely protective of their Nessie. They do not like a person snooping about trying to prove the monster does not exist.

Kriss soon finds herself in a complex situation that threatens everything her rational mind believes.

I probably liked this book the least out of the entire nightcreatures series (despite the guy on the cover definitely being the best looking!). I liked that Handeland branched out a bit by including other night creatures other than werewolves, and the story DID keep me fairly captivated, but I did end up guessing who was who about half way through. As a whole I did enjoy the book, and it definitely had its creepy factor but there was just something about the story, maybe too many holes, or maybe I just wanted another werewolf tale. Who knows? It was not a story that I couldn't put down.

Kris Daniels is determined to find the truth. As the host of the TV show Hoax Hunters, she's traveled the world to explore and expose life's most beloved myths. Her last pursuit takes her to Scotland, where she intends to get to the bottom of the Loch Ness Monster legend once and for all. Instead, Kris encounters something far more mysterious--a heavenly creature named Liam Grant. One look into his eyes and Kris is already in danger of falling in too deep. Is he real? Kris goes to Scotland to prove that the Loch Ness monster is a hoax. On her first night there she meets Liam, and can’t believe how quickly she falls for the Scotsman. When women begin disappearing, and it seems more and more as if some legends are real, Kris is no longer sure what to believe. Will she and Liam be able to solve the mystery or will he prove to be just another liar in a long line of them? I have read this book before, and I really enjoyed it more with this reread.

Well this one set a new level of odd. The series is a tad formulaic concerning the main characters pre book, but I admit that I am increasingly curious about what is going on with Edward and the J-S in the background of each book. There have been hints that something is up for a while now and I would like to know if that's leading somewhere significant for the series as a whole.

This book does start slow but a few chapters in things get real spicy and interesting. I had already made up my mind on who was who and what was what and in doing so I was surprised by the blatant obvious. The end felt a little rush but that last line made me smile, one of the best ways I think that thus author could end the book on.
Over all enjoyable story and concept.
