This is by far my favorite book of all time. Ever since I was little I have read this book over and over. I think it is a highly underrated book for horse lovers. Sure the ending is... suggests something darker but it was like other books of it's time. Definitely a must read for horse lovers.

Merak duygusunu koruyarak okutuyor. Hikâyenin içine giriyorsunuz. Duygudan duyguya geçiriyor. Sonu dramatik.

Çizimler Türkçe çeviriye has.

Guillot Goals #1
I have a feeling I may have read this in the dim distant past, but anyway, a fair tale with horses featured which is more about following your dreams etc.
It does feel dated in style, the illustrations were nice.
As the book was on its last legs, and falling apart, I will be the final reader of that particular edition, as it goes forth to be recycled into another product!

A quick and easy read, nicely written. A young person's adventure story, but this adult enjoyed it. I was surprised by the ending.

I read the physical copy and enjoyed it. I’d recommend it, but it doesn’t quite reach my 4 or 5 star tier.

Wow….. I was not expecting that ending.

I found this on my shelf and thought I would give it a whirl, in French, as I had not read it since my French O Level in 1985.

I was expecting a sweet story about a boy falling in love with a wild horse. And for most of the book, it is exactly that. Sweet and even a little too safe in places. Either we did not finish the book, or only read extracts, but I do not remember that ending at all and I’m sure I would have remembered it if we’d read it.

I feel traumatised….. genuinely and I love reading hard hitting books.

It’s the sheer surprise of Folco and Crin-Blanc being taken by the water and not making it to safety, after the gardians have set fire to the marshes to round up the wild herd. The shock of that last sentence will stay with me,

Honestly, this book sees the death of innocence more brutally than any book I’ve read recently on the theme. Nothing can survive man’s meddling and interference with the natural order and with nature.

Extraordinary! It goes to show how much books, even little books, can shock and surprise. And bless the French for not shying away from a bleak ending even for children.
