About the author

In a small-town Montana school at age 12, Brent Weeks met the two great loves of his life. Edgar Allan Poe introduced him to the power of literature to transcend time and death and loneliness. Fate introduced him to The Girl, Kristi Barnes. He began his pursuit of each immediately.

The novel was a failure. The Girl shot him down.

Since then–skipping the boring parts–Brent has written eight best-selling novels with the Night Angel Trilogy and the Lightbringer Series, won several industry awards, and sold a few million books.

Amazing book! This author now has me hooked. He is not afraid to make his characters flawed, realistic, and yet has a way of making you love them despite it all. I can't wait to read more!

A friend of mine recommended this series as his favorite fantasy series ever. I was very excited to see that there were graphic audiobooks available. Since this is an epic fantasy with political intrigue, assassins, romance, and plenty of action and violence, graphic audio really made the story come to life. The only difficult thing is that sometimes all the background noise of the action made the narration hard to hear. I loved the story. The plot moves fast and I never knew what was coming next. There were some fantastic surprise twists as well. I’m looking forward to listening to the next one! Some of the content is dark, so check before reading, if necessary. Also, the first book is broken up into two parts for the graphic audiobook version. I found them on my Hoopla app.

This was my first experience with Graphic Audio and overall it was really enjoyable. The narrator had a pleasant voice with good pacing and cadence. The sound effects were handled well, with a few exceptions, and added a sense of excitement and immersion to the story.

I loved Way of Shadow’s plot and would rate the story 4 or 5 stars. It was a few flaws in graphic audio’s presentation that caused me to give it only 3 stars.

Despite everything I liked I’m not sure I’d recommend it to a friend over a standard audio book. I couldn’t tell whether Graphic Audio is an abridged version; I think so due to the short running time, 18 hours vs. 21 for the standard audio book. My biggest problem was with the voice acting. I loved the large cast of characters but sometimes it felt like I was listening to cut scenes from a 90’s video game. The voices were too affected, particularly young Azoth and Durzo, to the point I laughed every time they spoke for the first hour of the book. Also, when the sound effects worked they are nice but when they are didn’t it was really annoying. On a few occasions I had to rewind the book because I couldn’t hear the dialog over swords clashing or a character weeping not a fun task when you’re in the car.

These books are awesome! They were awesome when i was just reading them but listening to them in Graphic Audio is friggin' unbelievable! the voice acting is fantastic!
