It was the evening of August 3rd, 2004. Tony Mendez took his six-year-old son on a fishing trip in hopes of coping with the loss of his wife. What they found in the Texas Sabine River that evening was a human skull.
A cold case was re-opened but little did Tony realize it would ignite a series of disappearances of small children that would upset the town, turn him and his son into the target of a sociopath and make the world question if perhaps the small town legend of La Llorna was true ...
As I was reading this story, I was surprised to find that it was a take on the Legend of La Llorona. I grew up in New Mexico and so am familiar with it. She was never violent towards other people, except for her own children. So it's hard for me to imagine the ghost killing so many people in such a violent manner.
A ghost story or a legend represented as a bogeyman, by parents to persuade their children to behave. Creepy, suspenseful, and scary are just some of the feelings I felt as I read this story.
Wonderfully executed story about the legend of La Llorona. There were eyeless children, bodies washing up in the river, and an intermittently possessed boy. What can I say? It was a quick read and I enjoyed it.
I really didn't enjoy this book. It was highly unbelievable. The Found is self published, I think, and it just did not move me or make me want to keep reading. Wouldn't recommend.
