Dead Again

Rate this book
A small plane crashes in the Rockies and the only two survivors, Jack and Sophie, help each other live until rescue arrives, seven days later.

Only Sophie goes on to pick up the pieces of her life, which has now been irrevocably changed by big, gentle Jack's love...and death.

But Sophie learns that Jack's death didn't close that chapter of her life, after all. A drifter called Martin holds the key to her heart, alongside a deadly secret.

Combined with a corrupt and desperate police chief and her pressure-cooker life as a single mother in a small town, they plunge her head-deep into the aftershocks caused by those seven days in the mountains. The consequences will reach out to rock state governors, district attorneys and one of the deadliest crime lords in the land, and all of them have reason to react. For Sophie, life is about to change again...for the worse.

And then I couldn't read it fast enough. What a RIDE! There's tension, there's mystery, there's fear for the characters...and there's joy.

I was kept guessing about who the bad guy was, which makes a book like this fun.

And then there's that bit of romance. My heart hurt, just a bit, and then things fell into place.

I highly recommend this one for a great afternoon's reading pleasure.

I do have ONE question...and if the author happens along, I'd love to ask her about it...well, one can hope...!

A second chance romance/"thriller".

Starts off strong with a plane crash, some survivors with wilderness skills, very Hatchet style - then quickly goes off the rails to become a small town cop drama romance

I´m so sorry but I did not like this book... the beginning was interesting but that was it for me. I´ve read 85% of it and I´m annoyed and bored since maybe 30%.

I don´t want to rant here, I´m just giving my honest opinion.

The writing was ok but not very good. There are several mistakes throughout the book (typos, for instance) and some words appear too often (wince, grimace). Some sentences are so weirdly written that I was wondering what the author wanted to say...

The point of view switches randomly between 3 and more characters, which was quite confusing. A break or something to indicate the change would have been nice.

The characters were interesting at the beginning but stayed very shallow and cliché. Jack annoyed the hell out of me with his mysteriousness and after the "big reveal" I thought he is kidding me..such a fuss-maker.

I could not believe Sophie as well. She doesn´t get tired to mention how Jack influenced EVERY life-decision of hers. The whole relationship between the two was not in the slightest believable for me. They knew each other for 5 DAYS. And they were not even conscious the whole time! And Jack told NOTHING about himself! What the hell?!

The plot didn´t catch me after the planecrash part (which I liked!). I read and read, waiting for something interesting to happen and gave up at 85%.

I guess that is just no book for me.

I'm not going to give this one a star rating because I honestly can't remember it.
Hmmm, thinking maybe that in itself might mean I should rate it with low stars.
I've reread the synopsis many times and some reviews trying to jog my memory.
But no luck.
Which doesn't bode well for this book.
One reviewer did say there wasn't graphic sex scenes in it.
It is supposed to be a 'Mystery/Thriller'
I may look up my copy and reread it. Or try to so I can give it a rating.

I really enjoyed this book...so much I finished in half a day it was that good. I loved the suspense and intrigue from the beginning and oh wow when the villain is revealed! The only thing was in the chapter where present day begins, it reads "10 years later" then in some spots it mentions 9 years or 8 years even 7 years...um which is it? Other than that I loved everything about it, no over the top love scenes however the author did a great job with the chemistry between the two main characters. The worst part? The profanity...it wasn't needed The best part?? NOT the beginning of a series!!!! YAY! I'm so tired of free downloads being the first in a series where you HAVE to read the rest in order to tie up the story. The author did a great job laying the bricks, and ending it perfectly. Especially enjoyed that epilogue....

3.5 stars. The story has been done before, but this one is done fairly well. I did not think that the beginning scene on the ledge was that strong...a didn't feel the soul mate connection, but I did like how this story played out. There was something that reached out to me about Jack , a longing for home that appealed to my sense of sacrifice. Nicely done. To the author: thank you for not giving up and making this available to us....again

This was a really interesting book and for me it was a page turner and I read it over one afternoon and evening (I couldn't put it down). Jack and Sophie survived a plane wreck and spent 5 days badly injured on a wide mountain ledge before being rescued. Fast forward ten years and then it gets intriguing...

It's well written and I liked the slow burn romance, the drama, the twists and the ending.

The only negative for me was the time line in this kindle e-book. Through the second half, the ten years since the crash was constantly referred to as eight, then back to ten, back to eight, then ten - so maybe if the publisher or author reads this review, it could be changed... Apart from that, a great story!

Simply Phenomenal!!!!

You know the action will be high when you start with a plane crash. In a remote area, with only two survivors. Sophie is down on a ledge with compound fractures in her leg. Jack lowers everything necessary for comfort and survival to the ledge.

Those five days spent together were life-changing. Married, then divorced from a man who reminded her of Jack, Sophie now is raising her two children in a small mountain town. When a drifter reminds her of Jack, she questions herself.

I found myself completely immersed in this story. The danger, intrigue, and depth of feelings will stay with you long after the last page has been turned.

Sophie and Jack survive a small plane crash but with injuries. Jack gathers food and equipment from the wreckage and helps Sophie with her broken leg. Jack has an unsuspected brain bleed. They spend the time talking about their lives while waiting to be rescued.

10 years later, Sophie is divorced with two children living in a small town. A stranger comes to town making her remember Jack and wish that he had survived.

It is a complex story and it definitely keeps you reading.

I think the title for this book is inaccurate. There is no "again". I also question the blurb - it doesn't accurately describe the story.

This is the first book I've read by this author, but it won't be the last. It's not the usual girl meets boy, they part, they meet again. They met as broken survivors of a light plane crash. The parted due to extraordinary circumstances. They met again, not so much by chance as by subconsciously seeking each other out. A problem with the story was that Jack, our hero, was on the road for seven, eight, nine or ten years, sometimes within the same chapter. This lack of attention was jarring and why the story didn't get 5 stars. It was tense and romantic. Each character was described and given his own distinct voice. Very well done.

This book grabbed my attention from the first sentence and never let go. Sophie and Jack are the lone survivors of a plane crash and save each other’s lives during their five days in the wilderness before being rescued. Jack later dies from his injury while on the operating table but his short time in Sophie’s life has changed her forever. Trading the hustle and bustle of L.A. to live in a small town near mountains reminiscent of the ones she stared at for five days with Jack she tries to move on with her life, but there’s always been something missing...until a drifter shows up in her town. A drifter that looks an awful lot like a dead man she can never forget. As “Martin’s” story unfolds the vague threat and danger of ‘them’ becomes more real. Who do you trust? Who can be believed? Who would crash a whole plane to silence one man? And why?
This would make a good Mark Wahlberg movie.

WHAT A THRILLING NOVEL THAT I DID NOT WANT TO PUT DOWN!! I thought that Jack had gone bonkers when he kept mumbling that the airplane crash that it was his fault! Jack knew that men would come and try to kill him, so with the only survivor except him and tried to help Sophie until rescue arrived. Jack had died on the surgeon's table. Ten years later, Martin had moved from place to place and never stayed long in city, town or village. I liked Jack and Sophie's strong ability to survive any way that they could. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I PUT OFF READING THIS BOOK, AND I HOPE THAT THERE IS A SEQUEL!!!

Jack and Sophie meet when their plane goes down in the mountains. What follows is a gripping, thrilling, at times sad, murderous romp all tied up neatly at the end with no cliff hanger. My favorite character was Sophie, she is a strong, determined woman that lost her way and found it again. Oh how much I wanted her to find herself again! This is a fast paced story full of interesting characters, which Tracy Cooper-Posey is so good at writing for us readers.

I am a big fan of Tracy Cooper-Posey and read quite a few of her books, but haven´t tried anything of the category „Thriller“ yet. I used to read suspenseful books a lot, but not since the birth of my son, I became quite touchy. But I thought to give it a try with this book- and it was great! It had the right amount of suspense and love, the plot is great and the main characters are very likable.

I quite liked this story about a man and woman that meet in extreme circumstances and their struggle to find their way back together. I found the timeline a bit confusing with conflicting referrals back to 8/10/7 years in past but it was generally well written and easy to read.

A goodread

The title Dead Again was a draw for me. Beginning was exciting and suspenseful, but many pages turned, 10 years in the book, before the inevitable reunion of Jack and Sofie. A good ending revealed the meaning of “dead again”, plus I liked the characters, it was a goodread for me

Jack, a man with enemies chasing him, and a female fellow passenger, Sophie, are stranded together after a plane crash. In the five days together before rescue, they develop a "thing" for each other (though no sex, not even any real sexy/romantic thoughts). He is seriously injured and when after rescue, for reasons to do with his work, he must disappear, she is told he died.

Ten years later, after a brief marriage that was a mistake, she runs in to Jack when he shows up by accident in the small town where she lives with her two children. Jack is living under a false identity and she is being courted by a sociopathic sheriff who secretly has Jack beat up and run out of town. Jack is determined to make sure Sophie is safe from the guy so seeks her out. Mayhem follows.

I was surprised to see how popular this writer was. Although the plot line is pretty good, the writing itself was stiff and awkward, amateurish. I often had to reread sentences or paragraphs because of awkward phrasing, ambiguous referents (e.g "he" and "she") and strange word use:

---"I don't want them [i.e. her children]to be on the outer among their friends."

---"she stood arguing the toss with the handyman" [no clue what 'the toss' means]

---And instead of Sophie thinking that "every few months" she saw someone she thought was Jack, it reads "Face it, Sophie, you do this at least once a quarter [???]. You just delude yourself into thinking you've seen him."

There is some good humor but the dialogue is also rather stiff and affected/melodramatic.

Then there are the technical mistakes. For example, the explanation of a Baby Boomer is wrong. Jack gives his (female) attorney his power of attorney to do something in case he dies but, in fact, this wouldn't have worked because powers of attorney end when a person dies. He might not know this but she would.

I didn't care for Jack. He is always moaning to himself about how bad things are his fault. Sophie, too, is not without melodrama. After only knowing Sophie two days, Jack believes he might die. He prepares things for her to get along without him but when she realizes what's going on, she becomes hysterical and tells him she doesn't want to be rescued if he dies.

All in all, I cannot recommend this. I quit reading it about 1/4 the way through when I realized I REALLY was not enjoying it.

Really great read.

I've had Dead Again sitting on my Kindle for a long time. I'm trying to go through and read some books that I've had for a long time before I buy some new ones. What a great decision because I just loved Dead Again.

Dead Again is a great story. The premise is romance since it is about Jack and Sophie becoming an eventual couple but the journey to their successful relationship was all the meat and potatoes of Dead Again. It was a fabulous ride!

Dead Again starts out with a plane crash and how they survived for five days with serious injuries and rationed supplies. This part of the book was amazing. Very creative ideas the author invented for Jack and Sophie to make it through. I actually wished this part of the story was longer.

I was a little taken back that after I enjoyed the plane crash chapters, the story jumped ahead eight years. I admit to being a little miffed at the change in direction but understood where the author wanted to go. It did take me a while to warm up to the next parts of the book. Some of the story-line was way off for me regarding the town sheriff but it did add some additional drama elements to the story that were missing. The middle part of Dead Again did drag a bit along but I knew by the tidbits the author was providing that it would eventually sped up and get really good. And it did.

The ending was lightly suspenseful and I felt some true vindication on behalf of the deserving protagonists. I was really cheering for Jack and Sophie for a successful ending. They deserved it!

A big draw for me towards Jack and Sophie was how real they were. Jack was not some mysterious ops, ninja, seal, alpha hero. Sophie was striving to survive as a single mom, run a cafe and find some happiness. I adored them as a couple and when they finally kissed, I fist pumped the air.

Teasers: mountain guardians, conversations under a tarp, awesome winter descriptions, vindication

Reviewed for Hearts On Fire Reviews

The one word that comes to mind to describe this book for me is riveting. I felt like I was glued to my seat and couldn’t put it down. From the very first page, my attention was hooked and I was carried away on a wave of longing and need – a need to know what would happen next and how things would turn out. I could completely imagine this story playing out on the big screen – it had that kind of feel and intensity to it.

I’d classify this primarily as a suspense story with a little bit of interwoven romance. I loved Jack and Sophie. Their characters were vivid and rich, both very strong and likeable. It was almost unimaginable for me to consider the circumstances under which they met and what I’d do, for example, in Sophie’s place. Things don’t get much more hellish than that, and yet, that encounter had such a profound effect in shaping Sophie’s life through choices she made without understanding the hidden meaning or implications.

Emotionally, this story took me through the proverbial wringer. From the OMG feelings of horror surrounding the plane crash, through tears for unfairness and loss, followed by hope and anticipation for new possibilities, surrounded by fear from evil villains and unknown danger, and finally blessed understanding and happiness, this one was quite the journey and gets a solid 4.5 stars from me. It felt like there was still a little mystery remaining at the end of the book and I usually like to have all my answers, so that’s the only reason for the missing ½ star. Highly recommended!!!

I really liked the plot and the writing on this story. The author, although now Indie, once published traditionally. Her writing shows that she knows her craft. She has also written a good and accurate synopsis of the book and I won't repeat.

The plot was well developed and I liked how the two characters met as survivors of a plane crash and spent the days prior to being rescued getting to know one another. This is not insta-love or insta-lust. This was two people talking to each other and discovering feelings. I definitely loved how the author developed and portrayed the feelings between Sophie and Jack. Both of these characters were very well developed and I liked that she developed them both as strong and smart individuals. I tire of the TSTL(too stupid to live) females and Sophie was a strong female as well as likable. Ms Cooper-Posey also developed a good group of supporting characters (both good guys and bad guys) giving them just the right amount of weight in the story.

I think where the story missed out on was having an editor challenge the pace of the book and a failure to edit out too much erroneous daily grind detail. The book in general was too slow moving in what could have been a fast paced thriller. I felt there also should have been more time and detail spent on some of the suspense elements of the story. If this would have been done, then I think it would have been a 5 star book for me. However I do note that there are a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews that didn't have the pacing issue, so some of this is personal taste.

I recommend this book and would read more from this author. Hopefully her next romantic thriller sets a faster pace.

Excellent! Page turner

This is an excellent book by Tracy Cooper-Posey. I started reading and it was hard to put down. This is difficult to tell the story since I don't want to give it away, however, it starts off with a plane crash. Jack is the only survivor and moves the bodies under a tree. He hears a female call out, help me!, yet he thinks he is heating things. Did someone else survive the crash. He searches where the sound of the voice is coming from. She was down a ravine in a son shelf. He had to figure a way down to her and pulled the sites from the plane to lower himself. Once he got to her he noticed she may have broken her leg in 2 or 3 places. Her name was Sophie. He brought foood and other items down from the plane. He did not know he had hit his head during the plane crash yet after a few days she noticed one of his pupils were larger than the other and he had a severe headache. She didn't know what she would do without Jack there to help her. One day he looked up over the mountains and the sun and his eyes burned. He covered his bad eye, lost his footing and hit his head along the stone walls which knocked him out. When he came to he tried to give Sophie instructions on what to do if he didn't make it. They were there 5 days before help arrived. After this, things take a dramatic shift. She is told that Jack did not make it, however ten years later he walks into town and is going by the name of Martin. You will have to read, this is an amazing read. Loved the book!

Imagine being stuck all alone on the ledge of a cliff with a shattered leg, minutes after surviving an airplane crash in the Rockies. Your life, your priorities and your survival instincts all flash into your mind. Will you fight or will you give up? Sophie is a fighter. It turns out she isn’t the only survivor. Jack, another passenger, stumbles out of the forest and hears her cries for help. He does everything he can to get her out alive. Five days they will be stranded, alone, cold and injured. It is enough for them to realize that they are soul mates. Then rescue comes and flies them back into real world. But Jack’s injuries are fatal, and he dies on the operating table – or, so Sophie was made to believe.

Eight years later, having lived her life according to what Jack would have done, she bumps into this wandering stranger, who looks just like Jack. Her past haunts her, and she longs for Jack’s embrace. Is she ready though to find out all the secrets this man harbors, and is she willing to fight with him again unto death? She is a fighter, and so is he.

During the entire book, I felt like I was on that ledge, waiting for rescue to come and save these two heroes. I could not put the book down, until I knew the whys and the hows of Jack’s mysterious existence. I loved Sophie’s single mindedness and how she in the end saved both of them.

Thank you for a great and suspenseful read!
