In even the most extensive quilt library, this will be a steadfast, go-to reference you'll return to again and again.
For beginner to intermediate quilters, this is a great place to start in terms of goals and inspiration. Most of the quilts here are for intermediate quilters, but don't seem out of the realm of possibility when you're just starting out. Some of the patterns are more challenging, but nothing is too intimidating once you have a little experience. This volume is full of patterns for classic, traditional quilts. I'm not sure how many--but a lot. Value for money here is very high, especially for a quilt pattern book.
Piecing techniques listed are not necessarily up-to-the minute. Special cutting dies and project-specific rulers are not mentioned, and I find this refreshing. These quilts can be made with the simplest of tools, (to include a rotary cutter, mat and straight ruler) which makes it a great starting point for a new quilter. Paper templates are used for many of the patterns. The benefit to this is that where many quilt books become dated very quickly, this one is an instant classic and will age well. There are no contemporary color palettes here; these quilts will look great for years to come.
There are 101 traditional quilt patterns in this book... pieced and applique. Along with the patterns are some notations by the quilt maker. Many of these were early quilts made by now famous quilters. Some of these quilts are timeless in their beauty, others harken back to traditional folk art roots. I think this book will have at least a dozen pattern any quilter worth her salt would want to make.
