We are creatures of intense desire. We emerge from the womb longing for touch and affection. Desire pulsates within us every waking moment of our lives. Our hearts are fueled by hungry yearnings for connection, for relationship, for a sense of belonging. We plunge into life, giving ourselves away to him or her, to this or that, drinking in every promise of fulfillment. And yet, we always emerge from the quest for love still feeling a persistent and insatiable desire for something more. A God Named Desire is about that something more. There are some books that speak with an unusual level of clarity to the deepest issues that press the human heart. This is one of those rare books. You will never see god, or yourself, the same after the insights of A God Named Desire are introduced into your mind.
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you” (Jeremiah 31:3). The idea of someone who is capable of loving another person with “an everlasting love” sounds like a fairy tale in today society. However, throughout the book a God Named Desire, Ty Gibson does a great job explaining how God is the essence of love that can satisfy the unexplainable desire in hearts for true affection! The author explains the points very well by using relatable language. The author makes a successful and inflective position upon how God values and offers a love that no one else can for every single person. This book is a must read for anyone has ever had a question about God and who He is.
Ty's A God named desire is 18 chapters of lessons about love. How God is love and how important love is to the structure of God and his creation.
I throughly enjoyed the book especially the introduction as Ty uses Botha original and scientific evidence to make the claim that without love a persons can literally die. Furthermore, there is a chapter that went into the specifically of the concentric nature of God's kingdom. Meaning that it was circular and the triune nature of God is at the center.
Overall, an excellent read that I will keep in my personal library reference.
I really really enjoyed this book. It’s such a good read, easy to follow and amazingly explained. God is described in such a way like never before. Read it and allow God’s love into your life!
I can't really understand why I didn't love this book. Concept is dead-on, book is just - off, somehow? And I can't put my finger on it. Four stars for content/concept, though.
Ty Gibson is a gifted storyteller. This book helped me to see God in a new light, and it helped me to understand myself better. The two chapters that stood out to me were Chapter 5 Concentric and Chapter 16 Center. (Maybe it's because of the illustrations in those chapters? I'm a visual learner...)
If you have doubts about God being a loving God with everything going on in this world (especially with the COVID-19 pandemic, racial tensions, it feels like World War III will happen tomorrow, etc.), this book is for you.
4 stars because after reading a chapter I wasn't "super excited" to read the next chapter... Took me a while to read through. Some sentences could be shorter too. Overall great read!
Humans want to be loved therefore god exists. Circular logic, full of superstitious twaddle . Apologetic that holds the Adam and Eve airier as literally true - boldly claims that there's mounting evidence for his position. Couldn't be further from the truth if it tried.
I wish every human who has ever wished for love, or has ever been harmed, or has ever wondered about who God really is, to be able to ready and digest this book.
And…for any leader who wants to understand when genuine leadership feels like. This is the book for you.
Wonderful, delightful, insightful portrait of the God of the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament. God indeed is love, a trinity, and infinitely personal, passionate, and intensely interested in every human being. Reality begins and ends with God, a never-ending circle of self-sacrificing, other-centered, giving love. Far from the detached, somatic ideal of the Greeks, the God of the Bible aches for reciprocal intimacy & desire made possible only through self-sacrificing love.
A God Named Desire, Hardcover gave me a different perspective of God, His love for me, His faithfulness, and His grace. It's a great book; I recommend reading it!
A very insightful read that really highlights God's ever present and ongoing love for his children. Lots of great visuals. Ty Gibson is a great writer!
This book is highly credible and inspiring. It totally shifted my paradigm/worldview and has positively influenced the way I live and interact with others.
