I usually enjoy a good BDSM book. One of the reasons I like it so much is for the psychological aspect. Why does a person like to be submissive? Why does another like to dominate? It’s an interesting dynamic, and I often enjoy how the author portrays the inner psychological struggle each of the characters experience. One of the other things I love is how intense the relationships are. There is no hiding from each other; everything is laid bare for the other person, desires, fears, and above all emotions. Unfortunately, Dark Desires had none of that. It was like the author was trying to write BDSM but missed the mark completely.

A good dominant hero is often in tune with the needs of his submissive, it’s one of the things I love reading. The dominant always watches for signs of what the submissive may want, always anticipating her needs, its part of why I love these men so much. They communicate openly and care about the needs of their partner. What I hated about Abe is that he didn’t seem to care what Hope needed it was all about him, and he came off as bossy, not dominant. He didn’t in any way consider her needs. He didn’t dominate her; he bossed her around and often used emotional black mail to get his way. Here is something he says to Hope after giving her a command. “You’re questioning me? It doesn’t matter what I’m going to do. I gave you a command, and I want it obeyed. Now, Hope, or I’m walking out that door right now and never coming back.” He also threatens that if she uses her safe word that the relationship is over. What the hell? That is being a bully and there is nothing dominant or sexy about it.

Hope is a really wishy-washy character and seems like she has a few too many personalities. There is the fun loving Hope, the tough, strong woman who doesn’t take crap from anyone, and then the doormat. She gives in way to easily to Abe. She fights him and mouths off sometimes but it seems more like a failed attempt at making her look bratty. Then when he says things like “If you use your safe word the relationship is over” she chases after him begging him to stay and says she’ll be anything he wants if he’ll stay. It just comes off as desperate and not submissive. I don’t actually get the sense that Hope is submissive at all, I feel like she is going along with everything just to make Abe love her.

I’m going to be honest here and say I never finished the book. I made it 55% of the way through and gave up. Aside from the BDSM elements I didn’t care for, there seemed to be no plot. Maybe it gets better, but I was too put off by the characters to care. It was a really disappointing book.

I read this paperback back in 2014.

Love a good Leah Brooke story. The "Desire" series is well written and interesting.

This one was a bit to long in the back and forth of finally deciding to be together. But that said, I loved the characters. This story is fun, suspenseful, interesting and a real page turner. The characters are awesome.

Deep thoughtful feelings, hot sex and romance, and a twist and turn plot. I love how she introduces new characters to this little town of Desire.

These stories are wonderful, though this isn't my favorite. I will keep reading the whole series! ENJOY !!

Ok there are several things that make this book my favorite, and only one thing that I would have liked to have seen different.

Ms. Brooke lived up to all of my excaptations for ACE....he is one hot alpha male. His demanding personality was just perfect for Hope. She needs a constant to help mellow out her "little" devil side. The sex was scorching, and almost as good was the fact that Hope caught on really quick as to what he was doing and didn't let him get away with it.

I also liked the fact that in this story Hope's needs were just as dark as his. That is not something that most writers really dwell on. It is mostly what the guys need in that aspect. In my opinion part of what made this book so hot is her hunger for what see needed and her ability to tell him specifically what it was AND he didn't make her feel bad for it.

******SPOILERS******

The only thing well two things really that I would have liked to see differently was the fact that basically he has been spying on the women's club and that never really made it to Hope's attention. Thats not cool. I would have liked for her to have found that out. Two. I would have liked it a lot better if he would not have waited until right after she got into that accident to make his mind up.......

I read this book because I was curious as to what "figging" was, having not heard the term before.
Don't think it's something I'll be trying.

This is book #5 in the Desire, OK series. I didn't read the previous four books but Desire, OK is a private little town where pretty much any sexual practice is accepted, specifically menage amour (love between 3 or more) and D/s relationships.

In this book, Hope grew up in Desire, the daughter of her Mother and 3 fathers. She's in love with the town's Sheriff, Ace.

Ace spends the first several chapters attempting to avoid her or otherwise convincing her that she's too young, too little, too stubborn to accept his *dark* desires. He tells her repeatedly that if she knew what he wanted to do to her, she'd run away in fear.

She begs and pleads and swears that she can handle him, until he finally gives in and gives her a chance to see what he would do to her.

Only, he doesn't really do much more than threaten. And for all her insisting she can/will do what he tells her to do, she argues the entire time.

What she really wants/likes is to be taken. To say no, but for him to ignore her and do it anyway.
But he wants a sub, which I don't believe she is.
Seems to me they weren't on the same page at all.

When she gets hit by a truck and injured, he asks her to marry him, but goes completely gentle with her. Knowing that's not what she wants or needs.
Eventually she forces him to give her what she wants, which is for him to take her with his "dark desire".

I guess eventually they'll figure each other out and learn to deal well together and probably have a HEA. I won't know it, though, because I didn't really like this book enough to want to read any of the others.

I AM MINUSING ONE STAR BECAUSE HE DIDN'T PROPOSE. AT ALL. He basically claimed he is her future husband and handed her the ring when she asked about it! You're suppose to get down on your knee, proclaim your love and propose! I don't care if you think she knows or you're a don't but you darn bloody well propose! Romance but no proposal? NOPE.

Okay. My rant aside, I did enjoy Hope's sass and bratty behavior. I like that she drives the always in control Ace crazy. There is also quite a bit of rough and "forced" play between the both of them. Hot damn.

However, the flow of the story is rather choppy. We have Ace refusing Hope and keeping her at distance to Ace proclaiming himself as her future husband after she gets nicked by a truck. Quite an escalation we have there. It also felt like Ace was blackmailing her emotionally, ordering her around instead of "domming" her. There is no ka-thunk factor to him, not one bit. I am not sure how to explain it but the whole special connection between a dom and sub was poorly delivered.

The cases of disturbance also felt rather out of place in the story. I think this is the first time I felt a series had too much sex in them. Really wish I had enjoyed them. That said though, I am still gonna read the rest of the series...

I didnt liked this book at all, compared to how much i enjoyed the other books of the serie. I was looking foreward to read the story of Ace and Hope but the way he was rejecting her at every step and even worse, Hope's games and antics and whatever else she comes up to get Ace was just too desperate for me...Most of the time I wanted to kick Ace's ass, sorry for the language, and slap Hope thinking that maybe she'll woke up and give him a kick in the ass from me and then flip a finger or something, forget about him...find someone, just like he thinks she deserves someone better...they do have Blade's place in Desire, she can find a master there i think...or even two. Well sorry if u dont agree with me and think it was a great book, but not for me and we are free to have our own opinions!

LOVED Ace & Hope, will never be able to look at ginger the same again...will definitely blush next Thanksgiving when I am adding ginger to my pumpkin pies =)

I loved the way Hope would frustrate him, by acting the opposite of what he thought she would, when he would try to push her away. I wish there would have been more of her intentionally pissing him off, sometimes she gave in to easy.

Can't wait for the next story...

The only thing I would like to see a little less of in the series is the anal sex obsession. I find myself rushing through the scenens after the 2nd time.

I got a little tired of Ace in this book. He kept trying to fight his attraction to Hope, and trying to deny that they had the same interests when it came to sex. Otherwise, I loved it!

Leah Brooke is one of my favorites. This series is amazing. Who wouldn't want to live in a town like Desire? So she almost always gets 5 stars from me.

That being said, it was great to finally read Ace and Hope's story. I had a feeling from the last book that this was going to be a stubborn journey for both of them. And it definitely was that! So I mentally prepared myself for a rough ride. Ace's refusal to give himself fully to Hope was infuriating at times. But probably what was the most difficult for me to take was it was literally almost the entire book of Hope begging for his attention. HOWEVER, at the same time, it was a beautiful thing to see her fight for her man.....with all her might!. The love and protectiveness the men of this town have for their women is just awe inspiring. So Ace's reasons were understandable, yet still very frustrating. But, you just can't help but love every single character no matter what. And the sex scenes....OMG.....h-o-t!!!

I can't fault the author at all. Its her incredible world she's envisioned and amazingly created for all of us to enjoy. I'm sad its over and can't wait until the next book. I wonder who it will be... maybe Rafe and Linc?....Charity and Beau?....Zach and Law?....Royce and King? Leah dangled a few possibilities in front of us...we'll see!!

Book five in the desire Oklahoma series. This book focuses on Hope Sanderson her and her sister Charity grew up in desire, left to go to college and came back and opened up the women’s club lady desire. Hope has been in love with the town sheriff Ace Tyler for years and she’s determined to make him see that they belong together, tired of him ignoring her she results to unusual methods. Ace believes Hope is too young for him being thirteen years younger than him, he believes that he is wrong for her she is light and bubbly in personality and he is dark and possessive. They come to an agreement with each other she’s going to make him see she’s the one for him. Things get hectic in the town of Desire, someone is causing trouble shooting out the club windows and damaging property but the worst is when Hope is hit by a car a hit and run, Ace is frustrated that he isn’t able to protect the women of desire and catch the perpetrator of the vandalism and hit and run. I loved reading the battle of wills between Ace and Hope, i loved the fact that Rachel gave birth to a daughter they named Theresa Rose that was a beautiful scene. This series is a enjoyable and entertaining small town romance with steamy bdsm and dom/sub culture if you are looking for steamy romance series to read I highly recommend this series to read

This one missed the mark for me. The bdsm element was weak. He was all 'I am so intense that I will scare her with the darkness of my desires', but in reality there was some spanking and it was all during sex play and some anal stuff. This was all written pretty much in a manner that made it seem very vanilla. The word choices the author used made it seem as if none of the things that the hero did to the heroine challenged her at all. He never pushed her into any sort of 'sub space.' In fact some of the things that he did were written as if they didn't hurt her at all but merely gave her a happy little buzz when I think that even at this vanilla level they would have hurt more than that. But she never even shed the smallest tear. The hero didn't want to hurt her at all either physically or mentally. So that was not very believable. And that was before she can slightly injured in a hit and run and then he wouldn't do anything but slow missionary position. She was just okay. I kept wincing when she talked during sex. Everything she said was either childish, stupid or just embarrassing. I might try one of the menage stories but I'm not sure that Desire Oklahoma is the place for me.

This book was calling to me so I had to re-read it - I knew I loved it and know I remember why! Hope is a Desire born-and-bred girl, she recently returned to Desire from college and opened Lady Desire with her sister Charity. Hope has been drawn to, obsessed with, in love with, the town Sheriff, Ace Tyler, since she has been old enough to have feelings. Ace has been in Desire since his teen years, when his dad moved him, his two brothers, and his step-mother there. Dad left and got another new wife, Ace, Law and Zach stayed on at the Tyler homestead. Ace is a Dom and doesn't think that young and bubbly Hope can submit to the desires he needs from his sub. He loves Hope, but worries about what the town would think of him having one of the towns favourite daughters being his sub. Hope finally convinces Ace to take a chance with her, but without him claiming her, just for sex so she can show how perfect they are together. Their dominance and submission needs align perfectly but Ace resists until Hope finally convinces him she can be what he needs. The journey of these two is so much different from any others and it is properly titled as it seems Dark while you're reading!

3.5 stars

Of all the books in this series, this has one of the most frequent anal play and anal sex, and hardcore domination.

It's what Hope and Ace both need and they're a perfect match, even though Ace avoided her any chance he gets. Hope went after him relentlessly until she got want she wants.

There's the usual criminal and Ace is as frustrated as hell the property damage is being done in his town, without catching any suspects. Ms Brooke wrote about it to shake things up. When Hope was run over by a speeding truck, Ace started to go soft...as in vanilla. Hope felt that something's missing between them but Ace keeps putting her off. Both of them have dark needs and only through each other could those needs be fulfilled.

I love how headstrong Hope is and how easily she handles Ace. She knows how to play him and to answer him whenever he's moody. Ace also knows Hope well and they're good together. I wasn't that moved by their story, though.

I'm looking forward to reading Dillon and Ryder's story in Raw Desire. They've been out of the picture since the 1st book in the series.

This was a good book for the most part. The only complaint I have about Dark Desire Desire Oklahoma 5 is that the heroine, Hope, keeps saying she wants a BDSM relationship but then does all manner of things that show she knows little about what that means. All the topping from the bottom would annoy the hell out of most Doms and subsequently they would be hesitant to start a relationship with her, I think.

Hope and Ace have been dancing around each other for ages and when they finally meet up explosions happen. With this book it delves a bit deeper into Dom/Sub and taking without safe words and capturing taking. If you are not into this sort of thing I wouldn't suggest reading it. But if u are the way the couple develop to finally getting what both need is great.

Ace is my kind of man!! This has been by far my favourite book in this series. So much more...., okay I have no words. Lets just say the characters in previous books have annoyed me with ere lovey doveyness and there talk of feelings. This was a book of action and oh my what lovely action it was. I hope beau and charity book will live up to this one.

Giving this a big 3,5 rounding up to 4.

Ace is all wrong for Hope or so he keeps telling her. Hope had always wanted to be with Ace, he's the One for her. They'll butt heads and whatnot, until Hope gets hit by a truck...

Sexy story, not the best of Desire's series but a fun quick read anyways. On the book 7! :)

I love this series!!! There is something about a town where women are treasured. Now, we all know its fiction but its great to dream. If your not into kinky sex I wouldn't read these books. But if you are, you'll enjoy this series. Read the books in order to make the stories richer.

Quite possibly one of the hottest Doms ever written. Ace is a formidable character, seeming to jump right off the page, and Ms Brooke created a perfect match for him in the heroine, Hope. The growth of their relationship, sexual and emotional, makes for an awesome story.

My only problem with this book is that they say they will go on a honeymoon when they catch the bad guy. However, since the book ended without them catching the bad guy, and there is generally one bad guy per book, does this mean they will never go on a honeymoon?
