French count Jean-Luc Toussaint had never seen such a beauty! Under the glare of the spotlight, the spirited performance of the waiflike pianist mesmerized him. He wanted to taste that passion for himself!
Swept off her feet by the count, Abigail Summers naively thought she'd be forever wined and dined at his château. Instead, the unassuming starlet found herself abandoned, penniless, pregnant… and waiting with bated breath for the brooding Frenchman to read the newspaper headlines and come thundering back to take what was his….
Kate is the USA Today-bsetselling author of many books of both historical and contemporary fiction. Under the name Katharine Swartz, she is the author of the Tales from Goswell books, a series of time-slip novels set in the village of Goswell.
She likes to read women's fiction, mystery and thrillers, as well as historical novels. She particularly enjoys reading about well-drawn characters and avoids high-concept plots.
Having lived in both New York City and a tiny village on the windswept northwest coast of England, she now resides in a market town in Wales with her husband, five children, and two Golden Retrievers.
Oh the melodrama. This one had that looking through a purple gauzy veil feel. The hero practically sighed and wrung his hands. He was so sad and therefore couldn't possibly make a life with the heroine. Until he knocks her up that is. She manages to fix him eventually and all is well. Thank goodness. Not a bad read for what it is. I've read many worse. But this one feels like something a 15 year old would just love. :-)
Tortured Luc, meets virgin pianist Abby. Instant attraction that turns into a push/pull dance until the very end. Luc is the standard “guilt ridden” “you’re better off without me” H. This had a melodramatic, theatrical feel to it, which isn’t really my thing, but I was hell-bent on finishing my Secret Baby Box set. Everything was so drawn out and wordy. I was bored, and skimmed.
Abigail has lived her life without ever experiencing life. As a child piano prodigy, all her time was devoted to the piano, but as she got older, she knew something was missing. Finally meeting Luc, she began to experience the life she could have, but he disappeared without her knowing his full name, and before reaching final fulfillment of her desires.
Jean-Luc already had the death of his wife on his hands, he did not feel he had anything left to give. Finding Abby, and beginning to feel again was more than he could bear. What would he do if he destroyed a woman he felt so strongly for when he had already destroyed one he did not love.
A story that should have been good, did not even make mediocre. A very disjointed writing style in the beginning completely undermined the entire thing. Never really believed in the characters, just a waste of time.
This story was good but timing of the chapters could have been better. It was so long winded, a lot waffling going on. It didn't start picking up until half way through book. Even tho I like the story itself and the HEA. Part of me feels this could have been a lot shorter book and still be good with all the waffling out of it.
"Count Toussaint's Baby" by Kate Hewitt was released in the US as Harlequin Presents #2937 (Aug. 2010). This was a good, solidly enjoyable read that has made me interested in reading more by the author. The plot concerns Abby, a popular classical pianist, who gives up her career after meeting the Count of the book's title. He leaves in the night before anything can happen between them, which causes her to feel rejected. Eventually they get together again and she becomes pregnant with his child, which prompts him to want her to return with him to his home in France -- at least until the child is born. Lack of communication, and the death of his previous wife, creates a wall between the two. The story felt like a classic, old-fashioned romance to me, with less sexual content than I expected for a Harlequin Presents. The prose itself was well-written, and I found myself admiring the author's descriptions and word choices. I enjoyed the book and rate it 3.5 stars.
Did not like it. I couldn't get into book because of the 6 month separations between meetings was really annoying. Also if I never heard the name Suzanne (his deceased wife) again in my life it would be too soon, hero was constantly thinking about her and he was so racked with guilt that book was totally unreadable for me. P.
This one wasn't bad. A bit empty in parts but I liked the couple, which the hero could have stopped having the same argument with himself and just doing whatever he wanted then getting in a fight with his past again. Didn't think the 'reveal' was that necessary for the hero. Read it, it's quick.
The hero was weird and annoying, I was also confused by the heroine. The hero was so insecure, thought shits happened to the heroine was because of him. I don't get the point of the story.

Hero and heroine met, had an affair, heroine got pregnant, hero went back home. Upon seeing a photo of the heroine pregnant in the paper, the hero flew to bring her and his baby back to his home. The hero had a lot of things in his past he needed to work out and the heroine was tired of the secrets and lies.
Decent read, nothing stick out completely for me to make this book seem like one of a kind but I did enjoy reading it.
A wonderful read.....a well written melodrama...loved the emotion & feeling that went into this book....you really come to feel for these two lovers struggling for their happy ending. First book read by this author & I really enjoyed it so it won't be the last one I read.
