A graphic novel chronicling the continuing adventures of your favorite space-faring heroes from the long -running Anime series that tells two stories. The first story is an epic love story with explosive action and science fiction adventure written by Jay Faerber with art by Long Vo, in which the romance between RDF fighter pilot Max Sterling and Zentraedi warrior Miriya is explored. The second story, written by newcomer Ken Siu-Chong with Tommy Yune and art by Jo Chen (Darkminds: Macropolis), features Lynn Minmay facing the trials and tribulations of stardom and romance as she films the major motion picture Little White Dragon. If you thought you knew the whole story behind this movie, you might be surprised at some of the revelations!
I bought this in its single comic book issues, but I chosen this TPB edition to make a better overall review.

REVISITING FIRST ROBOTECH WAR
This second Robotech miniseries published by Wildstorm, its focused in two different topics, even using different timing on each story tempo, presented in two separate sections of each comic book issue (six issues in total), both during the years of the epic First Robotech War.
First, you have the love story of Max Sterling and Miriya Parino, along with the friendship of Max with Ben Dixon.
Second, you have a merge between the movie “Little White Dragon” with the supposed real events that inspired the script of said film.
MAX & MIRIYA: LOVING ACES
Maximillian Sterling, male human, ace Veritech Fighter Pilot (even better than Roy Fokker & Rick Hunter), first assigned to Vermillion Squadron and later to Skull Squadron.
Miriya Parino, female Zentraedi, ace Power Armor Pilot (she’s the best fighter pilot in the whole Zentraedi fleet), field leader of Quadrono Battalion and second-in-command of Azonia’s forces.
They are from different species, they are from opposite armies, they are the best of the best pilots in each army…
…and they’ll fall in love with each other!
But they didn’t started in that way, in fact, Miriya Parino targeted to kill him!
Nothing like a rough love story!
Maybe Max & Miriya’s story isn’t as complicated (way, Way, WAY COMPLICATED!) love triangle of Rick Hunter with Lisa Hayes and Lynn Minmei, but still from their love story, (literally) born Dana Sterling, the first human-Zentraedi hybrid baby, the Child of the Protoculture, a symbol of hope for the unification between humans and Zentraedi, and who would grow up to become the heroine of the Second Robotech War.
And while you knew well their story, in this miniseries, you’ll discover some untold moments in the middle of their singular love story.
BEN & MAX: BROTHERS-IN-ARMS
During the 10 years that took the refitting of the “visitor” (Zor’s Battlewagon) into the Super Dimensional Fortress One (SDF-1), a whole city raised around the massive alien ship…
…Macross City.
There, the orphaned Max Sterling met Ben Dixon and his family and they become fast friends.
Militia and fighter jets aren’t in their visions of the future, but when the SDF-1 done its fateful fold jump to Pluto’s orbit, taking along the whole Macross Island (with the city and its inhabitants), the ocean’s water around and even some aircarriers…
…Max and Ben started to consider that their future may be on the Robotech Defense Force ranks.
Max was a natural born prodigy pilot, and Ben, well, Ben was his best buddy.
They were the first soldiers under command of Lt. Rick Hunter’s Vermillion Squadron, and Ben Dixon’s good nature and easy-going mood was pivotal to create the bridge to the eventual friendship of Max with Rick.
In this miniseries, you’ll know about untold moments of Max and Ben’s friendship.
HOLLYWOOD: MACROSS STYLE!
Lynn Minmei won Miss Macross Contest (yes, they did a beauty pageant in the relocated Macross City to the inside of the massive SDF-1) and her popularity generate the interest to make a theatrical movie…
…Enter: Little White Dragon!
Which it was a film about an old Chinese legend, but during the development of this second story in the miniseries, you’ll learn that maybe this legend (as in many legends) there is some historic real facts tying to an untold early (quite early!) Zentraedi visit to Earth!
