I'm in process of having three Meiji Era tansus I bought while living in mid-1980s Japan restored by Shibui Japanese Antiques & Furniture in Long Beach, whose proprietor Dane Owen is the co-author. This book provides the cultural and historical background behind cabinets that combine aesthetics and functionality in such a timeless way. I gained new insights not only into tansus, but also Japan itself. Richly illustrated, the book shows how they fit into traditional as well as modern settings. Highly recommended for those interested specifically in tansus or generally in Japanese style.
