Meticulously researched, God'ed? The Case for Islam as the Completion of Revelation challenges the most stalwart of theologians. Religious scholar and medical doctor Laurence B. Brown concludes MisGod'ed, his exposé of the shortcomings of Judeo-Christian theology, with God'ed?, which examines the Islamic claim of Muhammad as the foretold final messenger, and the revelation he transmitted, the Qur'an, as the completion of God's revelation to humankind. Together, these two scholarly works differentiate the truth of God's guidance from the falsehoods of human corruption while offering evidence that not only suggests the need for a final, clarifying revelation, but in fact demands it. At last, we have a comprehensive guide to the three Abrahamic faiths of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and a sensible roadmap by which sincere seekers can navigate their quest for religious truth.
A product of Christian-American ancestry dating back to the year 1677, up until his conversion to Islam in April of 1994, Dr. Brown easily could have passed as an example of a man who lived the stereotypical American dream. A graduate from two Ivy League universities with subspecialty training in ophthalmology, Dr. Brown served as a respected ophthalmologist in the U.S. Air Force for a period of eight years.
Midway through his Air Force career, Dr. Brown's ideal American family' included a wife, two children, and the requisite two cars and a dog. His country home was crowded with the full array of comforts and toys which clutter the lives of those preoccupied with materialism. Yet Dr. Brown ended up sacrificing virtually everything he had worked for when he faced a religious conviction that overturned his lifelong priorities.
Following a personal miracle through which the life of his daughter was saved, Dr. Brown redirected his focus to religious study in an attempt to make good on a promise made to God. In the process, Dr. Brown followed the chain of revelation through the Abrahamic religions from Judaism to Christianity and, in the end, to Islam. It is the result of that study that he relates in this series of thought-provoking books. In the same manner that Dr. Brown's choice of religion confronted his slice of the American dream, so too do his religious conclusions challenge the Western religous establishment.
Laurence Brown received his B.A. from Cornell University, his MD from Brown University Medical School, and his ophthalmology residency training at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. His immediate family presently consists of his wife, three daughters, and an ever changing assortment of parrots and hamsters.
Like his work before this one, God'ed takes a look at the Abrahamic religions though in this final book, the focus is ono Muhammed. This is the third book on religion that I have read by this author; his style of writing i consistently interesting and engaging. The information that you will find in this book really debunk many of the assumptions that people in the West have made about Islam. Regardless of your personal religious beliefs, you stand to gain many insights from this book. I would recommend this book to any person on faith or any person interested in religion.
This is like a deep research on Islam , quran, bible and turah or the Old Testament. It really gives a very detailed description of all the reliable information that you may need about the 3 relegions and gives you an open minded thinking about the creation and the spiritual life that most of the people live nowadays. The author is a well known American Ophthalmologist Surgeon who had a very interesting story in his life that changed his life and his way of looking at relegions.... I read the other book Misgod’ed 2 years ago and now i had the opportunity to read this; again it is a highly recommended book for the people who want a real authenticated relegious information away from the MISLEADING mass media and social media.... I advice all readers read it and read Quran ; they will change your life for sure....
A concise but broad spectrum introduction into Islam's claim to Truth
As a Muslim I came across a lot of information I was already aware of, but it was presented and articulated beautifully. Despite that, I learnt a fair amount of new things, particularly about the prophecies and the claims about the previously unknown that you find in the Qur'an. The part about embryology was particularly eye opening.
Just as in Misgoded, the previous book in this two part series, Brown writes in a style that is somehow both rigourous and casual, with his dry wit peppered throughout that makes it a delightful read.
If I was to nitpick I'd say that more attention should have been given to the science of Hadith, and how the Muslims have managed to create such a uniquely authentic system of historical preservation that is unlike anything other religious traditions have.
I really love the book the fact that each and every point the author made are precise and backed up with reference/s. I believed that the book might be a bit difficult for non-muslim to accept given the facts and the contents discussed, however, if everyone keep an open mind to it, there are a lot of things to learn from in this book. I personally feel that I have learned a lot a lot from this book, some of what I have never even aware of before. Look forward to another great book from the author in the future! Will definitely recommend this book to everyone who is open to know more on comparative religion.
This book is very informative. After reading MisGod’ed which identifies the inconsistencies in the previous two revelations, it is easy to understand that Islam is the true religion.
Muhammad Assad And Dr.Browne are by far my favorite authors.Dr.Lawrence does his fair bit of research into the Abrahamic faiths and wonderfully puts together the case for Islam as the final revelation from God. To be an intellect is one thing , but to put intelligence in such captivating and simple format is something else. May Allah bless him and hope that there's a lot more to come from Dr.Browne InshAllah.
As a lover of comparative religion books, I was ecstatic to discover this book and it's predecessor among a free shipment of books I received.
The book held my attention from beginning to end; and at times, I delayed reading it just because I didn't want it to end. Along with historical facts, the author's wit and humor made it a very enjoyable read. It's also rich with authentic references that the subject of the book is based on.
I absolutely loved this book and will be reading it again.
