Sometimes it feels so hard to love yourself. We worry that we're not good enough or we're being selfish if we take time to prioritise what we need. But self-love is so important and even if we're our own biggest critic, it can be done! You deserve better xxx
Hands up if you're fed up with being told you need to go on this diet, you need to behave this way, or you probably shouldn't wear this outfit...the list goes ooooon.
Anne-Marie's been told these things her whole life too and they didn't make her feel any better. But now, she's discovered the simple tools that mean she treats herself with the love and respect she needs and this, in turn, means she's able to go out into the world and be as strong, confident and true to herself as she can be. And she wants YOU to be able to do the same.
You Deserve Better is the must-read book from singer-songwriter Anne-Marie that doesn't give you fluffy promises about self-care but speaks honestly about body image, mental health, being successful at work and more. It's the real advice that every person needs to hear to be happier in themselves and in the world. Cause you know what?
This book was on my TBR for months and I'm glad I read this book. This is such a great book in which Anne-Marie shares her life story and talks about self-care, mental health, friendships, therapy, toxic relationships and more. She was totally being honest about everything throughout this book. I love her so much. I would highly highly recommend this book.
Absolutely amazing. Sharing her story made me feel less alone and gave me a realistic perspective of life. Honestly felt like a pep talk from a best friend the whole way, I highly recommend this.
Recomendo o audiobook.
I adored this, it really spoke to me, with Anne Marie’s use of music and songwriting to help her through difficult times, and really enjoyed her writing openly about her struggles with self love and body image. Something I’m very much working on too, aren’t we all? A fab read that I will go back to when I feel I need a little boost x
Absolutely Amazing book written with compassion she is so open about her own struggles with her mental health and shares what has really helped her. The book has lots of QR codes with videos which I thought was brilliant and parts where you fill out sections to help yourself. Amazing Book
Such an inspirational read as you are challenged in all aspects of your life while learning of the experiences of Anne Marie in those areas too. Love the QR codes which shows unlisted videos on YouTube of Anne Marie talking through things and personal struggles. This makes it extremely personal. MUST READ
If you are Anne's fan you are so gonna love this one. The way she has candidly put forward her thoughts is just commendable. And the book is so beautiful as well. The little drawings and QR codes of her makes it even more amazing.
A self-help book from a wonderful singer like Anne-Marie, what more could someone ask for?
This is a candid account of her journey through life and along the way it might help the readers figure out what works for them and what doesn't. The book talks about Anne-Marie dealing with anxiety and mental health issues in the most authentic way possible. The book touches upon a variety of topics like friendships, relationships, promotes positive self-talk and body positivity.
Filled with personal anecdotes, doodles and handwritten notes and quotes, this bundle of joy has this super friendly narration with playlists, TV and book recommendations from Anne-Marie and also stories behind some of her wonderful songs. Through her book, Anne-Marie is attempting to open a conversation about mental health as well as explaining how her music and therapy helped her process her life.
It's a beautiful and honest account of the life of Anne-Marie and along the way, it presents so much to learn and become a better version of ourselves every day. Self-love is important and this book teaches that. It has all the advice she would have needed earlier, that she now chooses to share with the world.
Through QR codes spread all over the book, Anne-Marie has video messages for the reader, making it even more personal. It also has exercises for the readers to fill in. For a huge fan of her music like me, this book is a must-read and it's a must-read otherwise. Honestly, I do not read many self-help books but this is the best one that I've read so far!
I'd like to emphasize that the book deserves to be read and I'll surely be picking it up several times again because this book is the new "Comfort Book" for me, because I deserve better and You Deserve Better!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Well I bought this book today, I didn’t intend on reading it today - Simply because I had just finished another one. I thought I’d just read the first chapter to get myself going, and then I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. Incredible stories, amazing advice, who knew I could finish 2 books in one day!!!!
I bought this because I liked the title, without realising Anne-Marie is a singer and this book is a quasi-autobiography, intermixed with platitudes about body positivity and mental health. My mistake entirely in picking this one up!
I started reading his book, because I listened to the album 'Therapy' and really loved it. So I started getting depper into the 'artist' that is Anne-Marie and discovered this book.
When I started reading 'You Deserve Better' I was a bit sceptical. Never before have I read a "self-help" or "theraputic" book, let alone 'An Imperfect Guide To Finding Your Happiness', but I was curious about it. I was wondering if it might help me see things differently. Not only about "self-help" books, but about myself and the world. And let me tell you, this book deserves every star given.
Like I said I was very sceptical about it, but that changed after about 5 pages. I wanted to read it the minute I got it and after the first 5 pages I needed more. There was nothing special on those pages, just a small introduction, but it got me hooked.
I read things I associate myself with and found things I do unconciously. Through telling HER story, I learned things about myself.
Even though I'm not in a relationship (never been) I found things I felt the same about. Especially everything body-image and friend related. And it made me want to keep reading. Anne-Marie gives advice in between telling her story and how you could and should feel. It can be small things like "Jokes for when nothing else works and you need something to make you smile" to "A quick excercise to let go of worry and be yourself" or ways to detect a toxic friendship. You can even discover your role in your group of friends.
I read things and noticed I do those too or I feel that way too. And I figured a lot of people probably feel this way.
I sometimes struggle with confidence in the things I do, say or wear and it is nice to know that even "famous" people struggle with these things too. I also learned small things about the way that I am. Like the difference between loneliness and solitude. I like to be on my own sometimes even when I'm in a room full of people and that makes me feel lonely sometimes. But I actually choose to be in solitude at those times. It doesn't mean I'm actually lonely.
I loved the different sections and I think it was a great choice to begin with the story of her life with relationships varying with her relations with her friends and how that combined with her self(in)confedence and the way she acted to not let people see her hurt. After what is on the inside it was time for the outside, what people CAN see and it ended with social media. So she went from inner circle (like your emotions and things people only know about if you tell them, cause they can't see it themselves) bigger and bigger until it was about the whole wide world.
The way it was written was quite fun and I think it stimulated me to keep reading. The different fonts and drawings in between made it really easy to keep on reading. I hadn't even noticed I was halfway through the book in about 2 hours.
So all I can say is even though you're not a fan of semi-biographies or "self-help"/"theraputic" books, just give it a go, because for all you know, you might find yourself in a similar situation and learn something.
I thinks it's a perfect book to read more than once. Just to sometimes remind yourself 'You Deserve Better' whether that is because you had a bad day, are in a bad relationship or just because you feel alone and need some suport. You don't even have to read the whole book in one go. You can pick different paragraphs or topics and reread those as many times as you'd like over and over again, until you don't feel bad anymore.
This book genuinely blew me away like this was such powerful and inspiring book that I’m genuinely grateful to Anne-Marie for writing it as it was exactly what I needed to hear with so many of what she wrote relating so much to how I’m feeling right now
The book covers an array of topics to growing up and finding your true self, to style, career and dealing with complicated and toxic friendships and relationships. She also discusses her views on social media and how becoming famous showed her a side of it that she struggled to deal with in the beginning. Her book includes little activities, mantras, snippets of her lyrics and random QR codes throughout that take you to private video clips from Anne-Marie to make you feel more involved and connected while reading.
It was actually so interesting reading what aspects of her life that some of her songs are about and having an insight into her journey of dealing with fame and struggling to find her happiness within that. I think what really related to was her difficulties with doing things for herself and learning to not care about others opinions. This is something I’ve really struggled with recently which I’ve noticed has also impacted my relationships with others and also how I see myself. In her end note, she discusses how she cannot pinpoint the turning point for her newfound happiness as everything was tied together and honestly I can relate to how everything seems to be impacted by my mental health right now.
If you are like me and struggle with MH and looking for something that is written in an easy and chatty format, I would highly recommend this book. Or if you just want to learn more about the popstar, it is such a great read to show you that celebrities are just like us. I can guarantee that this is definitely one that i will be reading whenever I feel like sh*t
I loved reading this book, it was very unique, uplifting and a joy to read. The illustrations were cute and I think my favourite was the QR codes throughout, getting a nice extra touch from Anne-Marie to the book.
Being born in 1991 like Anne-Marie, things were relatable and did make me laugh. The discussions on MSN, MySpace. I suppose some people maybe didn’t use those, but they’re definitely a good old memory from my younger years.
It is very brave of Anne-Marie to open up and share her struggles in depth, throughout the book she also shares her hints and tips of how things helped her and could help you too.
Some self help/healing books can be quite similar but I feel this is different and has such a personal touch from Anne-Marie, I’ve been a huge fan of her for a long time and love her music (definitely recommend going to see her live if you haven’t before, she’s a great crowd friendly artist!). It is upsetting to know how some people feel but it’s great to know she found her coping mechanisms and what helps her get through the days.
I definitely recommend this read, you can just read from start to finish or even just go to a specific page if you’re feeling a certain way. It’s a very helpful read and some of the QR codes will really make you laugh! I read this in the mornings before work and it set me up for my days. I’m glad to have read it.
When I think about Anne-Maria I think about myself in my tweens listening to 'Friends' and 'Rockabye' and singing my heart out with them. She is one of those singers who had never failed to inspire me with her wonderful songs and still continue to inspire me. When I heard that she is publishing her first book I was excited both as a book lover and her fan and like her songs this book also helped me to understand myself in a better way.
This book taught me that speaking about my insecurities and anxieties can really help me handle them more nicely. Every lesson Anne-Marie gives out in this book is valuable and inspiring for young people. I personally adored and enjoyed reading this book. Highly recommend to everyone.
A fun and light-hearted book from singer Anne-Marie. It is a sunshine-y book with of course, some storm clouds in it, but Anne-Marie, in her very best, shares some of her inner struggles with insecurity, stress, anxiety and depression, and how she overcame all of that. This made me realize that even successful people, artists, or leaders also suffer from mental and emotional turmoil. Great go-to book for when you are flooded with negative emotions and you need something to lift up your spirits.
This book is so easy to read. I love the cute little QR Codes that are included within the book and the small illustrations. It focuses on topics like relationships, society's harsh beauty expectations, social media, and really relatable topics for everyone.
Anne-Marie has spoken her story to help others. The book is about everything, going thru topics like mental-health, having healthy relationships etc. to work life and finding one's style. "An imperfect guide to finding your happiness" for me was perfect. I'll come back to this amazing book, as what Anne said really got to me. I deserve better. "We all deserve better". ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
Finally took the time to finish this one. I’ve always loved Anne-Marie and her sharing her story with this book was ❤️. Also the interactive bits with the QR codes and YouTube videos are such good finds, loved it!
I really enjoyed reading this book. As Anne-Marie is a big inspiration of mine, I was really looking forward to read it and it was even better than I expected it to be. I loved how much she opened up about her private life (which wasn't easy for sure) and the QR codes were so cool as well. The little tips/motivation things will be something I will go back to from time to time. If you're looking for something to boost yourself then it's definitely something for you!!
I love this book so much! It’s amazing as a pick me up when you are feeling down. She is so incredible and inspiring and says it as it is. This book is probably the most empowering, honest and beautiful book I think I have ever read. Everything she says/has been thro is very relatable.
3.75⭐ - ngl, this is not the sort of book i would normally read but i thought it would be interesting as i am trying to read more non-fiction and stuff, and i mainly picked it up because it was anne-marie who wrote it and i think she is so cool. - i am so so happy that i managed to get a signed edition aswell & i got it as part of a waterstones giveway (that i did not win lol)
- to be honest, the writing was something that did bring down this rating quite a bit. - it wasn’t awful, just was a bit immature, which is understandable for a debut book & for someone who is not an author - it did keep it easy to read though and really accessible as it was written in a way someone would talk, in a sort of colloquial fashion
- talked about so many relatable topics and really made me feel as if some things that i may be struggling with are something so many young girls go through in our day & age - not only that, she really went into detail about ways you can deal with certain issues and shared her own unique experiences - however, one thing that confused me a bit was when there were different chapters on different topics, the timelines got muddled a bit. for example in one chapter she would be talking about her experience as an adult, then she would jump to her experience in school. i mean that is one minor criticism as i don’t have a lot of bad to say about this book - i also love how she emphasises the fact that this is not an indefinite guide to being happy and it is just something to help you along the way
to conclude, i think that this is such a necessary read for any young women as it talks about so many relatable topics including her own experiences with them & ways you can try to feel better, and also anne-marie is amazing, so read the book & then listen to her new album :))
Normally I would start my reviews with a quote that really sticks with me. I struggle this time because there are so many things said in this book that I would love to highlight! I remember listening to the album "therapy" as soon as it came out and I enjoyed it! I felt understood and supported - that is why I am still listening to it when I drive to work and home! This was also the reason why I decided, that buying this book would be a good choice... - and I don't regret it! Honestly it took me a while to read this book but not because of itself! For me as a non- native speaker the english was amazing! I was able to read without any problems. Furthermore I love the style of the book: small tasks to write/think about yourself, QR- codes with video messages, clear chapters and the honesty of the writer. Anne- Marie is a musician I am looking up to and it felt really personal reading her story. Given some circumstances I am happy that I picked up that book just right now! It contains a lot of advice which I started to use right away and made me think about different things from a new perspective. I will definitely pick up that book again!
This book was so good. It was so insightful. I loved reading and learning more about Anne-Marie and her whole life. It's always reassuring to see celebrities, who are normal human beings just like us, going through similar things and issues that we also go through. Seeing Anne-Marie in this light made me feel much better and allowed me to understand her on a better level. I've always loved Anne-Marie as a person and as a singer. I love her songs, they speak many words (they speak her mind) and reading this book has gave me an even deeper understanding behind each and every word of her songs. This book is great for anyone of any age, but especially teenagers, as Anne-Marie speaks mainly about her life in school, college and her early adulthood. I loved the little QR codes in the book aswell, that led to Anne-Marie giving more advice in video format, whilst you are reading her book.
I read this book in a day and absolutely loved Anne-Marie telling her story and giving out so much helpful advice. Her writing was beautiful.
