Who knew making friends could be this hard? Ainz and Mare have donned disguises and joined Aura in the dark elf village, where things aren’t exactly going according to plan. The villagers have no idea how they should interact with these extraordinary visitors, and it looks like finding some friends for the twins is going to be a lot tougher than expected. Meanwhile, the Theocracy’s invasion finally knocks on the doors of the elf capital, prompting Ainz to make his move even as some ofthis world’s most powerful figures pursue their own interests in the besieged city…
I love overlord so much. It seems the author has chosen to end the series in the next few volumes! Why?! This is one of the few series I am fine with reading for the rest of my life. I also remmeber thr author saying that the story would take more than 30 volumes but now ending it so soon, is the ending going to be rushed?! I hope not. I hope this gets a good ending or no ending at all.
these last two volumes were just a filler, author clearly lost his spark . two stars only because it was somewhat fun reading others parties try to make sense of ainz nonesense and stupidity otherwise it deserves none.
Amazing volume it’s made up for the village slice of life Ainz made me go through 😭. I feel like there was really no good reason for that. Sure you can say mare and aura grew a bit more but the volume concluded the same way and even hinted that they are commanded like puppets to follow the commands instilled into their data. We got some Zesshi and Elf King action. If the primal earth elemental really is stronger than the dragons than Ainz can easily clear everything in 2 volumes like the author wants to end the story in. It just doesn’t feel right ending it in 2 volumes there’s a lot more and I don’t know how he’s gonna scramble it into 2. NOT TO MENTION, the lore and side stories of the 41 supreme beings with some killing each other irl and others being killed by megacorporations or sum like that. Lord Touch-Me killed someone from what I remember ? and the fact that ITS GONNA BE YEARS until we get another one just baffles me 😭. Epilogue went crazy tho. Ainz mad ash and Albedo having an affair of sum sorts with experimentation ? She prob experimenting on a small village or inside the tomb of Nazarick itself to test the loyalty of her fellow NPCs since she likes Ainz more than her own creator. I miss demiurge and the rest of em but they had their arcs, Holy Kingdom arc went crazy 🙏
Can’t wait for neruonist to get her hands on Zesshi gonna get some ample information yessir 😈
I believe that the previous part and this one should be graded collectively. As such the overall mark for what I believe should have been one complete book is 1.5. It is much the same as the previous part, it simply expands on the same uninteresting muddle and adds new ways to disappoint the reader. It lurches hideously from the mundane to action without any suspense, build up, or seeming cognition from the author. Any attempts at depth or meaning are either so well hidden as to be only observable by the keenest of minds or were simply not included. The last quarter of the book has the only real story progression and even then it is almost painful in its simplicity. The scene is never set, the actors are only surface level explored and follow such obvious troupes as to make everything that was meant to be meaningful, meaningless. It is a shame that the series has had such a downward spiral as it was an easy but enjoyable read. If this is however the calibre of novels that the author is going to produce then I am glad the series is ending in the next two volumes. I will hold out hope that they will improve and wish the author all the best in finding the spark that made the beginning of the series an enjoyable read.
Overall much better than the previous tome, really, most of that one didn't serve any purpose at all didn't it? The plot in this one is more interesting but still lacking compared to the previous volumes in the series. I'm very worried about the author mentionning that the series will finish in two volumes, it doesn't feel close to ending anything at all. But yeah, more significant actions and characters and still the great style of the author. Also some of the best illustrations in a while so that's an improvement.
major plot advancement. sad that it will end within the next 2 books. like author once proclaimed he could have extend the life span of this world to 30 books if he wished.
it feels the progress of this story can be describe as a train starting. As it is starting from halt it is exciting, fresh. Yet as it picks up the speed you notice the movement of train cannot deviate too much what previously known. Except for the train to derail. (by having introducing actual rivalry that could kill "good" sub characters)
I was hoping that this volume would make up for the previous one at least a little tiny bit. But nope, this one is just as bad. It's almost entirely fluff, with overly verbose descriptions and dialogue meant to take up space so this non-story can fill up a whole book. This is clearly just a way to waste time, complete filler so that Maruyama can achieve his promise of eighteen volumes, no matter how what level he must stoop to.
I'm putting in some hope that the next volume will, at the very least, be a little bit fun to read, but I won't hold my breath. I have no idea how this series is possibly going to be wrapped up in two volumes, and I have even less of an idea of how they're going to even animate any of this for the final season of the anime.
Whatever happens will happen I guess, but man, I wish it could've happened differently. This is a horrible way for this once fun series to go...
This book had so much more going on than volume 15. Having the characters try and decipher Ainz is always so funny. No one has any idea what is happening at any time when it comes to him. But they still praise him nonetheless. The fights were pretty cool, albeit a bit short. We got some major lore involving past players and the next major and FINAL plot points. The author note in the back saying the next two books are going to finish up this series is really bittersweet. But its been almost 3 years at this point since this book was published. So Im hoping the next two are beefy 350+ books.
Still don’t think this needed to be two parts but this was another great one. I’ve been following Overlord forever and it never fails to make me laugh that everybody thinks Ainz is this mastermind when really he’s just making it up as he goes. I feel like the Elf King didn’t have enough importance in the story or maybe more that he wasn’t very developed as a character, more of a means to an end. However we’re FINALLY getting some more Black Scripture and I’ve never been more excited. Can’t wait for the next book.
The 1st half of this volume was very frustrating, as the dark elf village visit is clearly just filler (this is exacerbated by the amount of time spent getting there in Volume 15). After an awkward transition, the second half was at least entertaining, though it basically only covers about two hours time in story. The epilogue sets the stage for the next major conflict, so I hope the author ups his game for the final two volumes.
They really should have just combined 15 & 16. I feel like there was really no reason for the dark elf village to exist and would have rather gotten deeper into the Elf King. I was bored for the first 100 pages of background.... filler.... idk where Maruyama is going with it.
First part of this book is a bit slow, but I am sure it set up some future storyline. The second part is awesome. I don't know how the Marijuana does this after 16 vol. but I can't wait for the next volume.
This volume was pretty good, kinda upset that the story will end in 2 volumes :( I just feel there so much more he could do with the story. We still have the theocracy, the counsil state, the dragon kingdom and everything else to explore!!! But anyways, loved the art in the afterwords very cute
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
There's more action, more fun, more fights, magic and details from Half-Elf (no spoilers) is just that... I read it so fast and now I have to wait for the last 2 books from Kugane Murayama and I don't know when he will release...
The weight of the series, the appeal of its legendary characters and it’s past momentum are really the only things keeping this from being a 3 star read, gasp! Too much telling and too predictable at this point.
Like always, Ainz is fumbling into greatness. Can not wait to read more. This mainly focused on the twins through which I thought was going to be boring, but I was totally surprised.
Sad to say but i can see the author really being tired of this series while reading this. Its still a great story, mind you, but with a grain of salt since im a big fan so it breaks my heart.
It was a good story just a little slow at time and I felt a little unsatisfied how it progressed. Overall though the good part were good and it had its funny moments.
I am so sad to see this amazing series come to a conclusion. I absolutely love Overlord. Any anime where the MMC has infinite power, tactical measure and just over all BADASSERY, I'll take an order of them all please. MUST READ
