I had no idea that the original Konosuba author did not write this as the Amazon listing was misleading. I would not have bought a physical copy if I had known, so that’s upsetting. Hirukuma does a fair emulation of Natsume Akatsuki, but this felt like a filler episode or tie-in movie with no impact on the main series canon. The story drags more than I typically expect from Konosuba and the humor is all retreads of old material. It is a forgettable but inoffensive throwaway story.

I had fun with the story, but you can tell the difference between Hirukuma and the original author, Natsume Akatsuki, in terms of writing the characters. The difference was too jarring for me since I love these characters .

This is my first light novel, and I wasn't sure what to expect at first. This reads exactly like watching an episode of an anime and while I love the contents of the anime, it does seem a little jarring reading the same interactions in a book! I will say, however, that while I was reading this, I felt like I was watching the anime at the same time, which was fun. I will definitely be reading more light novels in future!
