This spectacular collection of seventy-nine works of art by America's premier historical artist is a stunning visual portrait of the two legendary Civil War Confederate generals. Text is by an acclaimed historian.
James I. Robertson Jr. is an Alumni Distinguished Professor of History at Virginia Tech. He published the definitive adult biography of Stonewall Jackson, Stonewall Jackson: The Man, the Soldier, the Legend, and also wrote Standing Like a Stone Wall for young adults. He lives in Blacksburg, Virginia.
About the author of the text, someone on a blog once wrote, “Seems like he carved out a niche for himself long ago as the guardian of Confederate mythology…”. After reading the drippingly saccharine descriptions of Lee and Jackson in this book, I agree. He paints these Confederates as saintly, upstanding, Christian men. I found it nauseating.
The artwork, although good, also projected these rebel-flag-waving, defenders of slavery as gods in some Stranger Things upside-down world.
