Hasil (English: Reward) highlights the relevance of religion in a Muslim’s life. It helps the reader explore the strength inherent in an individual’s determination in seeking divine help against enormous obstacles. Hadeed is a neglected child raised in a luxurious yet abusive environment which turns him into an insecure introvert. His extreme dissatisfaction with life leads him to make a dangerous decision. At this stage of his lonely life, he meets a strange girl named Saania and his life begins anew. Hasil first appeared in Khawateen Digest.

We fall in love with so many things in this world that we sometimes tend to forget to love God the most
I definitely enjoyed this little tale of two people finding the true meaning of their religion after going through a terrible crisis in their lives. One woman who has entranged all relations due to her own misjudgements and the other a man from whom fate has taken everything. They find each other thrown together and find God and peace and love in the process.
There is one problem with this book however, which I find unable to shake off. In peer-e-kamil, I understood how umaira ahmed was able to justify the fateful reunion of her characters, but in hasil this didn't really work for me. It seemed a little forced, making their reunion a little too surreal.
The characters were definitely interesting and the author's style, like always, totally blew me away. I smiled and I cried but still she left me wanting something better, something more.
This book wasn't really different from the other books of Umera Ahmed and, so, not a new experience for me and that's why it kind of disappointed me. Though the story was obviously different, but it was like reading Peer-e-Kamil and Lahasil all over again. All the stories of Umera Ahmed are kind of same in a way. Umera Ahmed uses the same plot for every story and that's what make the story less anticipating because then, I already know what is coming. I also think that the writer took it really fast. The end happened real quickly and she could've taken it a bit slowly. Overall, the story was good and I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't read Peer-eKamil and Lahasil.
Yet another beautifully written book by Umera Ahmed.
Let me make it clear, Umera Ahmed mostly uses the same cliche plot. I found this book very similar to Peer e Kamil. It's not only about the story, it's broadly about how she always tries to amalgamate Islam in the story and how clearly does it show the picture and how discretely it answers the questions about religion that inevitably pops up in our heads.
Calling all the book lovers out there! Please read this book. You're most likely to finish it up in one sitting. It took me 6-7 hours to finish reading it. It's one of the soul-enlightening books that should be, must be, read.
I'll be looking out for 'La-Hasil' in the bookstores now after reading 'Hasil'.
The one thing I instantly liked about this book was the male protagonist's name; Hadeed. Basically, the theme of the book is same as many of Umera's novels; Religion. Two people finding the true meaning of their religion after going through a terrible crisis in their lives. Sania, who has estranged all relations due to her own misjudgments and Hadeed; from whom fate has taken everything. They find each other thrown together and find God and peace and love in the process. Happy Ending.
For my self building this helps a lot Highly Recommended I always mix hasil and lahasil but I know this for Hasil. I like it cause of highlighting the Shukr E Khuda and making ua realize how Merciful Allah swt is and we are ignorant Muslims.
written along the lines of pir e kamil, but shorter plot. Umera Ahmed's wordplay is as usual brilliant. simple Urdu but conveying far reaching thoughts..
(2.5/5) Uhhh so basically peer e kamil but condensed in a 100 pages or so 😭😭 Didn't enjoy this as much (probably bcs i had guessed the entire plot). It was a little boring to read (THANK GOD IT'S A SHORT NOVEL) although i love fast paced novels, this felt a bit too rushed, especially the ending :/ *Oh and that scene of saniya's confession to David was SO embarrassing i literally went 😬🤦♀️🤡🤡
(PEER E KAMIL YOU WILL ALWAYS BE PERFECT, NOTHING COMPARES TO UUUU)
Edit: just checked and surprisingly, hasil came out before peer e kamil so i think people should read hasil first bcs it's impossible not to enjoy peer e kamil :'D
So far its was also the best novel of Umera ahmed she never disappoint us. Like always her novel includes pure love, religion, life experiences & so on. Everything was just perfect she did justice with characters past not like peer e kamil (it have also the best lessoning story but for me past matters & it was kind of boring too like amarbail) except the kids part i mean ok in this novel its needed but not in peer e kamil where he asked her in kaaba saying "apni nasal kliy" then they had 2son? Its been 3y but i still remember that line. Why hero always talk about children but what if herion is infertile? Will he leave her? She always raise my standards in men but also make me scared. Sorry to say but sometimes she make me think of her typical view bout marriage that is only for kids where herion compromise & destroy her life just for them. I've read her many novels like that. Excluding this part whole novel was a masterpiece
I fell in love with hadid __ soooo sweet & dignified & Intelligent :) The way he would always pray to Allah as a child & then as he grew up the times he would pray to Allah sincerely but poor Hadid!! I'm glad he got happy ending :-) & he got love of his life Hidayat is given to one who deserves this. Hadid was a pure hearted guy & had such a sweet connection with Allah before fully understanding ISLAM I loved his innocently he used to Call Allah in times of need & pray to him :) :) Hadid is the cutest & lovable!!! Thank God! He got guidance & lived life interms of Islam & a sweet girl :-)
Okay so this book is not exactly the great book I was expecting it to be. Having read some great books by Umera Ahmed previously like, "Peer-e-Kamil (SAW)", "Darbar-e-Dil", "Hum Kahan K Sachay Thay" etc. I was pretty disappointed by the lack of description and the rush to finish the story off. There were a lot of places where she could have given a little more to make the reader feel the exact conditions of the characters. I, for one, felt completely unrelated to the story.
just a few hours ago, one of my friends recommended me this novel, and as I started reading it I was so indulged in this soul searching tale that I completed it an overnight..I completely enjoyed reading this beautifully written story of sania and hadid who find true value of religion after going through awful crisis in their lives.
This novel shows that how a single incident or a single person can completely change the meaning of your life! If also shows how a child suffer from terrible problems just because of the fights between the parents. I just love that how the author has shown the conflicts between Muslims and Christians. Overall, this is surely a good read!
So, I finally read Hasil—and honestly? Mixed feelings. I went into it without reading Peer-e-Kaamil, so I didn’t have any spoilers or expectations. That worked in my favor because the plot felt new and different, which I enjoyed in the beginning.
The start had me hooked. I felt genuinely sad for Hadeed—watching him lose people one after the other pulled at my heart. Those Cathedral scenes? That was probably my favorite part of the book. The way they’d meet and have those deep, soul-searching conversations felt raw and meaningful. It made me think this would be a five-star read.
But then... Sania’s story began. And I won’t lie—everything shifted for me after that. The pacing suddenly felt rushed, like the author wasn’t as invested in telling that part of the story. I could feel it in the writing. The emotional connection between the characters fizzled out. Their chemistry? Practically non-existent. It was like they were going through the motions, and I couldn’t buy into their relationship at all.
And don’t even get me started on that confession scene to David—second-hand embarrassment. I had to put the book down for a moment—it felt that awkward. Plus, David as a character didn’t sit right with me. His interest in Sania felt so half-hearted. Like he wouldn’t have cared much either way if he married her or not. It made his death feel less tragic and more… just part of the plot moving along.
Another thing that bothered me: the book never clearly addressed that a Muslim woman marrying a non-Muslim man isn’t allowed in Islam. It’s such a significant point, and it felt wrong that it was just brushed over, especially when the story could have made that clear.
I think what disappointed me most is how much potential Hasil had. It really could’ve been great if the characters had been developed more, if their relationships had been given space to grow, and if the story didn’t feel like it was sprinting to the finish line. It needed those slow, quiet moments between the characters—the kind that make you fall in love with their journey.
Would I recommend it? Only if you’re curious. Personally, I’d say pick up Peer-e-Kaamil instead. I’m told it’s on a whole different level.
Final rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ — decent, but I expected better.
This book is splendid work by Umera Ahmed. This book reflects the life of a boy who is desperate for affection because of his childhood sufferings. He falls in love with two girls, one who makes him rebel against Islam and one who leads him towards Islam. She lefts great impact on his life and later on becomes his soulmate. Argument #1: I highly suggest this book because it highlights different circumstances which leads the youth to dislike Islam and attracts them more towards other religions. Argument #2: Secondly this book describes that a woman can change a person. She holds the power to make people go astray or guide them towards the right path. It inspires young girls to take up the path provided by Islam.
