Samantha Blaine is the only heir to her fathers buniess and his personal estate, which is very vast. Samantha has always wanted a marriage just like her parents. They fell in love the first time they saw each other and stayed in love. Her parents honeymooned in the middle east and when her father passed away he wanted a "life celebration" and the theme to be Middle Eastern with food and tents. After the funeral the attorney gives her a letter from her father. In it is the combonation to the safe in his home office. On the way to open the safe, Samantha decides to look for her boyfriend , Albert. But what she ends up doing is overhear him ln the phone telling someone that she is clueless. That once he has his ring on her finger he will be in control of her buniess and her money. Samantha finds herself sitting at her fathers desk and rubbin the lamp she found in his safe. All of a sudden orange smoke comes from the lamp and in front of the desk stands a strange man.
Khaled is the genie of the lamp. With the death of Samantha's father the ownership of the lamp passes to Samantha since she is one who rubbed the lamp. Kal found out how to remove the cuffs that bound him to the Service. When he was caught he was sentenced to serve one thousand and one master and must also grant each one one thousand and one wishes. Samantha is his last master. What Kal wants is to be set free and take over the position of Vizier. The more time Kal spends with Samantha the closer they become to each other. When Samatha's old boyfriend finds his way to where they are hiding, he belives the only way to get the genie from her is to kidnap a baby magical creature. Will Kal and Samantha be able to save the baby? And stay together? Or will Kal be trading one master for another one?

This is the second installment of Ms Fennell's Genie series. This can be read alone without reading the first one. But in my opinion you will not be dissapointed with either book. Ms Fennell pens a story that is entertaining. The magical land where they hide away in is told in such a way as to feel as that you are there. You almost expected to look up and see a unicorn walk by. I look forward to many more stories from Ms Fennell set in this world. This series is one for the keeper shelf.

She was his master. His last master. He couldn't afford any distractions and she was one giant one.

Samantha Blaine knows what its like to be used for personal gain. The people around her might be friendly to her face, but once her back is turned she is "clueless" and "useless" but, she always had her father and a steady boyfriend with fiancé potential to depend on. However, on the same night Sam celebrates her father’s life after his passing, her instinct to turn to the only other person who she believed loved her for her, revealed Albert as an imposter. Seeing as how he was too busy on the phone calling her spoiled and making plans to use her, Sam retreats to her father’s office to uncover the mystery held within his safe. Now with her confidence shattered and feeling more alone than ever, she decides the only way to show him and everyone else what she's really made of is to take charge of her future. Yet even after his death, Sam’s father made preparations to continue looking after or rather have someone else continue looking after her.

Khaled has spent many, many years waiting for the day that he would begin serving his 1,001 master knowing that it would his last. While his service to Monty Blaine wasn’t without its perks, mostly relating to his daughter, Kal is ready to ascend to a place of change where he would serve no one save for the High Master himself and eventually even take his place. Kal’s mission now is stay focused on fulfilling the wishes of his last master and continuing work on his application to become the new vizier. However, after only seeing Sam in pictures while serving her father, the woman herself is too tempting to resist and could prove to be Kal’s biggest threat to his goals and his heart.

Faruq’s reign of terror might be over thanks to the High Master giving him a dose of his own medicine, but there was an unexpected complication. The people of Izaaz have become lazy. The health and vitality of the city is gone and now greed and chaos reign supreme. Prime opportunity for one gold-digging jerk known as Albert, who isn't above extortion or kidnapping to get what he wants – a genie.

Just the simple act of saying "as you wish" never sounded as sexy as when Kal says it in this story! Our hero and “Half-Naked Hottie” is just simply delicious. I loved reading about his unrequited feelings for Sam when he served her father and his continued internal as well as external struggle after. He stood by her no matter what and gave her the confidence needed to continue their journey. Instantly falling for this genie was definitely no hardship.

Competence was never the issue with Sam, but her confidence sure took some hits. It was wonderful to read her come into her own. Unfortunately, it's as they say 'no good deed goes unpunished', so when all of the wishes she made to help the citizens of Izaaz comes back to bite and her ex shows up with a vengeance, Sam's true test of self begins. She becomes determined to right the wrongs and show everyone she's not "clueless" or "useless".

All of the rest of the characters are just as lively and the scenes just as colorful as I've grown to expect from Ms. Fennell. I cherished the moments when the lovable fennec, Dirham, would add his factual and well-meaning wisdom to the situation. Many other creatures adorn this story, which lend it plenty of humorous respite. The ending does leave a bit to be desired when compared to book one, but the wrap-up is cleverly done. The question now is where will Ms. Fennell take the series next. I for one can’t wait to find out, so if you’re in the market for a magically charming read, Judi Fennell is a must!

I thought the first book was so so, so this book was a make or break book for me in the series. After about 50 pages I am giving it up. I was bored when reading and slightly confused. When Samantha was whisked away and all these creatures were around talking non-stop I realized I just didn't care. This one just wasn't for me.

Honestly, although the plot was sound and the main characters well written... there was just TOO MUCH of the fighting/bickering nonsense that interfered with anything getting settled, it detracted from the plot, it was intrusive, and it made me want to put the book down gazillion times. We got the idea after the first scene introducing us to the magical horde... after that it should have been kept to a minimum to keep the spotlight on the plot and the hero & heroine. I know it was probably meant to be funny, but what it was, was just plain annoying.

Not my favorite it was okay but not a series I will most likely continue on with unless of course I need it for a challenge of some sort. I didn't really like Sam all that much my favorite character was of course the fennic and his little girlfriend. They were cute and were only trying to help. Other than that it there wasn't much to say about it, it was just meh.

Judi Fennell writes erotic fantasy stories that border on X-rated but never QUITE go over the line. This series centers on genies, although other mythical creatures also make an appearance. * Probably not for impressionable pre-teens. *

Genie Knows Best, Bottled Magic #2, by Judi Fennell
Grade: C-
“Changing one’s history changes one’s destiny.”
Samantha Blaine is not having a very good day. It’s her father’s memorial service and she has just been given the combination to his safe and instructions to open it immediately. Inside the safe she finds a gold lamp and after uttering a wish to be somewhere else, finds herself in a new land called Izaaz, with a genie who claims she is his new master and can have anything she desires. Even in a new land and with her every wish just a request away, Samantha cannot escape her problems from home and soon finds herself with even more then she started with.
Kal has been a genie for over two thousand years and is one master and one thousand wishes away from earning his freedom. He knew Samantha would be his final master after serving her father and he knows that he must fight his attraction to her and keep focused on gaining his freedom. The more time Kal spends with Samantha the stronger their attraction grows and Kal is soon wondering if being with Samantha is worth more then power and immortality.
There was a lot going on in this book and at times it was just too much. Samantha is thrust into this new world called Izaaz and it takes a while for things to get explained and to figure out who everyone is. I didn’t read the first book in the series so I’m not sure if Izaaz is explained more in that book and readers are suposed to already have an idea of what’s going on but I found myself for the first sixty pages. This book can be read as a stand alone but just be ready to be thrown into a magical world and tons of side characters without much explanation.
Samantha is an only child and raised by her very wealthy, widowed father. Samantha has always been taken care of and has felt used by everyone in her life for her money including her ex-fiance Albert. Albert is a grade A jerk and like everyone else only uses Sam for her money to pay off his bookies and he now has his sights set on getting her genie. I felt like both of these characters were very boring and very cliche. Sam has a pity party for herself throughout most of the book and she doesn’t stand up for herself until the very last ten pages. I found her to be highly annoying and felt that she spent most of her time complaining about how her life isn’t fair. Albert was necessary for the plot but he too was annoying and he wasn’t even a bad villain.
Kel fell into the category as Sam and Albert. He wasn’t very likable and after a while he got on my nerves. I found myself not caring about what happened to any of these characters and was way more focused on the side characters and their stories. The side characters steal the whole book and they kept it from being boring. Dirham is a genie assistant and a cute little desert fox. I found him and his love interest Lexy to be hilarious. Bart and Maille are two mated dragons that have been bickering for the last fifteen hundred years and Bart has just discovered he’s a father. These characters kept the story flowing and provided lots of humerous banter in an otherwise dull book.
I think my biggest problem was that there wasn’t enough romance for me. I found it very easy to believe that Sam and Kel wanted to sleep together but I found it very difficult to believe they were in love. The only times that they were alone they were having sex and they never had any heartfelt conversations. Neither opened up and shared who they really were and it seemed a little forced to me. I especially couldn’t believe that Kel would give up everything he worked for for two thousand years for Samantha. She didn’t do anything special and she actually ended up causing more problems then she did solving them.
All in all this wasn’t a horrible book and I actually really enjoyed the magical world of Izaaz that Mrs. Fennell created. I would love to read more books that take place in this world and included some of the great side characters in this book. I love fantasy romance but I found this book was way too much fantasy and not enough romance to keep my interest.

My Rating: 4 stars: Enjoyed - strongly recommend (A-)

Samantha is mourning the death of her father, when she overhears her boyfriend/fiance on the phone talking about how useless she is that she doesn’t even have a clue what he’s up to. When Sam discovers that Albert intends to “get his hands on the contents of the safe,” she quickly goes to find out for herself what is hidden. Little did she expect a genie in a lamp, but after the initial shock of it all, Sam embraces her new genie and a world she never dreamed to exist.

Kal (aka the hottie genie) has long admired Sam from afar when he served her father. Now Sam is his final master and soon his wrongful punishment will be over. Kal struggles to maintain a balance between his personal ambitions and his growing feelings for Sam.

Sam and Kal start their adventure in Izaaz, hidden home to many mythological creatures. There Sam unselfishly uses several wishes to help rejuvenate this rundown town. Unfortunately, so many of the denizens cannot get a long and chaos reigns. Although the book jumps to a quick start, I felt this part went on a bit too long. Sam attempts to start an urban renewal while refereeing waring dragons, leprechauns and gnomes. For someone just tossed into this world (and who is not only grieving her father, but also found out her fiance is a total a$$), she has no problems adjusting to this foreign land.

Once Sam and Kal leave the fighting behind and move on to finding Albert (he’s up to no good), the story moves much more quickly for me. The adventure is entertaining, but it’s the characters’ humor that kept me engrossed. Ms. Fennell’s writing is punctuated with pop culture puns and snarky characters. The story reads like a light-hearted sitcom, full of humorous situations with a side of danger.

Sam and Kal have an instant attraction and their romance is hot. Yet they both are cautious, knowing their affair cannot last, as he is an immortal and she is human. However, instead of discussing their situation, they hide behind half-truths, which in the end cause them great heartache. Good thing this is a book about light-hearted magic, where all their problems can be solved! And in the end, life is good for all.

Overall Genie Knows Best is an enjoyable “chic-lit” paranormal. Although second in the series, it is very much a stand alone read, with a few minor connections to the first book. The plot is fairly simple, and even somewhat predictable, but very delightful because it’s so much fun.

Genies have always been viewed as one of the most magical creatures, but magic cannot buy you love. Not only can it not buy Kal Samantha’s love, but it can also doom him to a life of mortality. After 2,000 years of waiting go back to his rightful place in the djinn society, he is not willing to risk it all on one human, or so he thought.

One aspect of this story that really separates it from any other story I have read is that it is extremely light hearted and playful. This was an exciting change to the typical love affair. It also allowed the author to display the characters' personality well, including the plethora of sub characters throughout the story. At times I found myself so enchanted by the banter that I forget the antagonist was leaking around the corner.

The antagonistic conflict played a large role in Genie Knows Best sometimes to the point that I forgot it was a romance story. While I think that the antagonistic conflict was fitting to the story and help it progress nicely, I would have liked to have seen a little more time spent building the romantic aspect of this story.

This story was full of many mythical creatures, which really keep me on my toes. You never knew when Gremlins, Leprechauns, unicorns, or any other mythical creature you can think of would show up. I love mythical creatures so this was something I thoroughly enjoyed. Especially when they got to arguing with each other. I could have read about the fights for days between all of the creatures in Izaaz.

Not only is this a story I would recommend to others, I already have a few people in mind that I know would love it and plan to tell them today. So if you are looking for a love story with a laugh this would certainly fit the bill.

I won this book from "Goodreads First-Reads". Samantha's father leaves her a lantern with a real genie inside. After overhearing her boyfriend at her father's wake that he is using her for her money, her first wish is to be taken away from where she is. He takes her to the magical island "Izzaz". Where there are unicorns, gnomes, dragons, leprechauns and more mystical creatures then you can dream. The island is falling apart from no hope and everyone destroying things by fighting with each other. Sam wishes it fixed up not knowing her greedy ex shows up and decides to kidnap a baby dragon so she will trade the genie with him to get it back. So Sam and Kal (her sexy genie) set out to trade the lantern for the dragon. along the way they fall in love but he can't tell her or he will lose his powers. Does he tell?? I enjoyed the story, 4.5 stars, I wish there was more involvement between Sam and Kal if there was I would have rated 5 stars.

Even though this book is "paranormal," it's an extremely accurate example of the psychology of the human mind. Having read another book in the series, I knew going in what to expect. The characters - especially Kal and Samantha - are fleshed out in the appropriate manner. The only parts of the book that I didn't like were the scenes with Albert in the realm which Kal takes Samantha to. For some reason, the scenes in his head always seemed to magically stick together for a few pages while I was reading. I also would have liked to have been told what happened to Sam and Kal after they pronounced their undying love for each other. Was it a happily-magic-ever-after, or an ew-what-did-I-get-myself-into, relationship.

What I've noticed about the books I've read from Sourcebooks is they sound way more entertaining than they are in reality. Samantha discovers Kal, a dijinn (genie) are discovering upsetting news about her soon to be ex soon to be fiancee at her father's wake. The resulting tale takes place in a blur of magical characters in a magical town that sounded like it should be funny, but didn't deliver. The pacing and even the antics in the last third of the book were maddening. I kept wondering, "Is it over? Is it over? Is it over? No? Sigh." The idea had promise, but the execution makes me hesitant to purchase anything else by this author

Yum! I really liked the sex scenes in this one even better than the first book though I liked Eden better than the woman in this one. I thought how the other creatures are always fighting was comical and I really liked the fennec fox he was pretty cute. I'm going to read the next one soon which I think might beat this one since the description sounds more interesting to me. I love Judi Fennell's writing and consider her one of my favourite offers and look forward to exploring more of her books.

Childhood fantasies and mythological figures literally spring to life in the world this author has created. Gnomes, dragons, leprechauns, talking foxes, fairies, nymphs, phoenixes, and every other creature you ever read about, makes a small, or large, appearance in these books.

This is the second book in this series. I loved it almost as much as the first book. This book was funny, and filled with romance, but it had a lot going on, and was a little too fast paced for me. But I still enjoyed it very much, and cannot wait for the third book in this series, and more hopefully to come.
