Oblężenie Macindaw

Rate this book
Przetrzymywana w murach Macindaw Alyss niestrudzenie zbiera informacje o planach najazdu, jednak grozi jej śmiertelne niebezpieczeństwo. Will musi zebrać ludzi, by przejąć twierdzę, nim Keren odda ją w ręce Skottów. Znakomicie obwarowany zamek stanowiłby wyzwanie nawet dla regularnej armii, a młody zwiadowca ma u swego boku jedynie garstkę przyjaciół…

Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name. See this thread for more information.

For mysteries by this same author, see John A. Flanagan.

John Flanagan grew up in Sydney, Australia, hoping to be a writer. It wasn't until he wrote a highly uncomplimentary poem about a senior executive at the agency where he worked, however, that his talent was revealed. It turned out one of the company directors agreed with John's assessment of the executive, and happily agreed to train John in copywriting.

After writing advertising copy for the next two decades, John teamed with an old friend to develop a television sitcom, Hey Dad!, which went on to air for eight years.

John began writing Ranger's Apprentice for his son, Michael, ten years ago, and is still hard at work on the series.

He currently lives in a suburb of Manly, Australia, with his wife. In addition to their son, they have two grown daughters and four grandsons.

John Flanagan, you have no right to do this to my heart!! There should have been an epilogue at least!! Why was there no epilogue?? *endless screaming* AND WHERE WAS HALT??!!

So. Many. Panic. Attacks.

Just. Let. Me. Breathe.

💔

This was probably one of the best scenes in the book!! (**SPOILER ALERT** For those who haven't read it yet, I wouldn't read any farther!)

"Are you alright?" he said, taking his arm from Will's shoulders and turning him so he could see more clearly, looking for some sign of a wound.

Will coughed and retched in reaction to his close shave. He knew how near to dying he had been, and his legs were weak from the thought of it.

"Will!" Horace said, concern making his voice harder. "Are you okay?"

The young warrior was frantically running his hands over Will's chest and stomach, trying to see where he might be wounded. There was a lot of blood soaked into his jerkin front and it had to be coming from somewhere. Still in shock Will reacted angrily to the question.

"Of course I'm not alright, you idiot!" he snapped. "He damn near killed me! Or didn't you notice?"

And thus the two-book adventure in wintry Norgate comes to a close. Fair winds to the Skandians, particularly Gundar Hardstriker. Farewell to the brilliant healer, the tender-hearted giant, the unpopular chamberlain. Au revoir to Horace and Alyss. We'll see you again, no doubt. Come visit me at Seacliff.

3.75 stars (good but too predictable). I rounded it up to 4 stars because it's such a heartwarming book, with a sweet finish. No sex, no cussing, but beware of some bloody battles and scary superstitions. It was written for older kids and young adults, but I enjoyed it, too.

Excellent narration by William Zappo, but next time, no musical intrusions after each chapter. Please.

Solid conclusion to Will’s first mission as a true ranger. It’s good but it doesn’t quite reach the level of the first four books.

Ok so I gave this book one star because it was that bad. Really was it that bad? yes it was that bad and more.
I was so disappointed in this sixth book of the Ranger's Apprentice series! The first four books where so great and this one fell utterly short. I HAD hoped after reading the last book and being bored out of my mind that this next one would pick up a little, boy did it not.
Quiet frankly it got to be a chore reading it by the end of the book and I was jumping in my seat waiting to get done with it so I could wright a raving review. Ok so maybe not that bad but still, it was pretty darn bad.

Some of the things I found wrong where it were that it kept repeating the same stuff, over and over and over and over and you get the point:) Like the information about how castle stairway's were built so that the person coming down had the advantage. That is great information and all but I really don't think we need to read it three times, I mean come on does the author think we're that dumb?

Also the details on the fighting scenes were just, boring, and dumb and so trivial that I was rolling my eyes and skimming over lines.

AND the 'quote' humorous moments in the book were all just stupid and dumb and boring and ahhhhhh they didn't need to be there.

AND FUTHERMORE! In one part the 'sorcerer' aka healer in the forest who has been misunderstood all these years (How predictable is that?) tells Will that he needs fog to make his illusions in front of the castle they are sieging. And Will promptly replies "How will we do that when there is no fog around the castle?" and Mr. healer comes back with the brilliant reply "We will just use pipes and water and make fog!". Ok really? THAT IS SO DARN LAME!!!!!!!!!!!! First off how the heck can you make fog, second using pipes in a medieval setting which I doubt they would have had pipes in is so darn stupid and third, It's just stupid!

Ok so those are just some of the major things I found lame and boring and stupid and so darn annoying with this book. I'm sure if I put my mind to it I could find several more but alas I don't have the time as I need to start a hopefully better book:)

I've found these books to be sort of, "uneven". I liked the early books, but the sequence concerning Will's captivity lost me some what as I found my interest waning. A lot of this will of course be somewhat personal and subjective and apply to me, some will I suppose find it to be true for them others less so. I found my interest in this YA series picking back up somewhat in the last couple of books (aside from my annoyance at the blatant cliffhanger with which the book before this ended).

Let my say something here, and please bear with me....in other words I'm not trying to sound in any way pompous. I had a couple of complaints with this book and at least one may be explained by the fact that I have read so many books. There were times when I was going "okay, we all know what's coming next...just get on with your cliche and move the story along!" But I'm not really sure that everyone thinks that...so whether the books plot and the story's situations are a bit (as I said) cliched, is something to decide for yourself. Often I saw plot devices I recognized going in and knew the next events almost as if I'd already read them. I think each reader may need to think about this individually...it's a YA book.

The second problem I had? In at least 3 places I "felt" as if certain events and confrontations drug out far too long. It was as if the author had planned out something and wanted to use every bit of work and every idea he'd had about it. I was so ready at times for this confrontation or that combat to be over.

at one point I intended to rate the book 3 stars, then 4 stars, then 3 stars again. I've settled on 4 stars as I find this, on the whole an enjoyable read and a well written book. I like it....over all.

THE SIEGE OF MACINDAW (RANGERS APPRENTICE #6)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

—-warrior- AURORA now playing—-

”alyss. i love you. i always have”

-un marked spoilers-
this was sooooo gooddd!! i devoured it
i loved all the planning for battle and THE NIGHT WARRIOR SCENE 😂😂
literally laughing my head off bc of the “big strong” general’s reaction.

“now i know why people call comedians fools”

☘️WILL TREATY☘️
i love will so much. he’s one of my favourite characters ever! (i say that about a lot but he has a special place in my heart) i love that even though he’s a fully qualified ranger now, that he’s still the will be was before. and his and horace’s reunion made me smile. he’s still as badass as ever and i wish i had the skills with a bow that he does. too bad he has no drawing skills 😂 i wish we were able to be a part of the rest of will’s ranger training though. honestly will’s dedication to getting alyss back says something.

“the words kings ranger meant nothing to him. will might as well have shouted kings rissoles”

“did you want it to be this squashed up shape? our wheels tend to be sort of round”

oh the humourrr 🤌🤌

⚔️SIR HORACE⚔️
i know that technically he’s a fully qualified knight now and like really intimidating but i’ll always see him as sweet former bully horace that he was a few books ago. horace is just cute and funny and loyal and definitely a friend i’d want by my side when i’m planning to storm a castle. please he’s so funnyyyyyy 😂😂

🩺MALCOLM🩺
i love him in this book so much! from his normal “healer that lives in the woods” personality to his “scary evil sorcerer” costume. if i was there when he performed his trick, i would’ve been out of my mind with terror. malcom has some amazing tricks up his sleeve too. he’s just so cool. please be my frienddd 🙏🙏

💗TROBAR💗
the friendly giant. he’s actually so cute. his connection to shadow is full of love. he goes after buttle because of what he did to the dog and almost dies because of it.

“im planning to prey on machaddish’s superstitions and fears”

💌ALYSS💌
i just want to say poor alyss. she spent the whole book locked up. the courier code i actually want to learn like that was done cool signalling. and she was basically addicted to that stone which was just cruel. but i love that when she tried to fight it, she thought of will. willalyss forever!

“the scotti won’t mind, so long as they know there’s no castle macindaw threatening their supply lines when they invade”

👑KEREN👑
blehhhh im sorry but no matter how regretful he may be now, he made a choice. he didn’t have to do that. he could’ve done it ANY OTHER WAY but noooo he involved the scotti. im sorry but i also laughed when he sort of kind of awkwardly proposed to alyss 😂 he was also so cowardly like broooo. you made the bed so go lie in it. but no that stone. like excuse me? it is just cruel, endslaving alyss. he deserved to die the way he did.

“how would she react to the thought that she had murdered her best friend?”

JOHN BUTTLE
icky. i hate this man. he’s a cowardly slimy animal abuser. or as as horace says “a gutless piece of scum”
there have been plenty of bad men in the rangers apprentice series but men who cut open their own dogs deserve a special place in hell. he almost killed a nice giant too.
I HOPE YOU ROT “SIR FUCKER”

GUNDER HARDSTRIKER AND THE SKANDIANS
i honestly love the skandians, also because i’ve read brotherband. but it was so good to see them coordinating with skandians again. they’re so funnyyyy. but i’d definitely want them on my side too. they do ALOT of damage when they want to. gundar is so cool.

“gorlog’s claws!”

ALSO “BALDERDASH!!”

The ending of every Ranger's Apprentice book seems to leave me an emotional mess.

While The Siege of Macindaw wasn't my favorite installment, there were, as usual, many aspects that I enjoyed greatly. For one, the banter in this book was top tier, and even made me laugh out loud a few times- a feat considering that Halt didn't make an appearance until one of the last chapters. (What can I say, the guy is iconic.)

It's always a fun time watching Will make friends with unlikely foes, an element that was quite evident in this book. In all, the plot was inventive, the world creative, and the characters likeable. This book was another that was a bit heavy on the battle tactics side (a small gripe of mine about The Battle for Skandia), but again, I can appreciate the way Flanagan executes these scenes, so I am not left confused at any point.

I've been deeply enjoying The Ranger's Apprentice series so far and I'm already eagerly anticipating book 7!

This one, and Sorcerer in the North, are my two favorite books in the series.

Content:
Language--some taking God's name in vain, some dam*s and hel*s
Sexy stuff/Romance--A few kisses. Keren wanted Alyss to marry him *ew*
Violence--Well, there is the siege of Macindaw... Some fighting, blood, arrows being shot, wounds, blah blah.

Also not my favorite of the series. Once again, Halt is only in it very briefly, and Tug is barely mentioned.

****spoiler Alert****

He's not resting until shes right next to his side and until he does hes going to do the impossible for her. This book is an adventure, action, type of story. i give this book a five out of five cause its so good.

This story takes place mainly in Macindaw the castle and also Grimsdell wood where it is in the woods. So when we left of Will made a promise to Alyss that he would save her and get her back. Will in needing of an army and does which he finds the skandians and offers them gold and revenge for john buttle who killed skandians while escaping and with extra luck he finds Horace who is ready to fight. But things don't go so steadily there outnumbered and don't have the plan to over throw the castle while back in the castle alyss is there waiting for Will to message her but gets something better and gets a stone that makes her resist the blue stone that Keren the traitor and when keren makes her talk she resisted and hears something that a army is coming and tells Will by secret message and then Will and Horace make a plan to capture the leader to make him tell them answers and they barely do but get information but not enough. They plan now to attack the castle and succeed while attacking Will goes to save Alyss but while there keren already had her and puts her into a transfer and the stone is no use and gets controlled and keren says kill him. But Will says he loves her and somehow she gets back to normal with the power of love. While back in the battle field Trobar one of Malcolm's best servants sees John buttle who hurt one of Will's dogs shadow and gets revenge but fails but luckily Horace was there and stops John buttle and kills him. Alyss who gets back to normal throws Keren acid that Will gave her to escape and melts him and dies. Everything is back to normal and everyone gets back to what there doing but before leaving Will leaves his only dog to trobar who fell in love with the dog and trobar promised if she has puppy's he wants one and Will after saving Alyss returns home to his cabin and feels alone but hes not done yet and goes after Alyss again and feels happy. This story is a person vs person because keren holds alyss hostage and Will must get her back in his arms.

i Was surprised when trobar wanted to challenge John buttle from what i can tell he's a stone hard killer and can kill anyone that is in front of him. I was moved when Will said" Alyss i love you" which to me was like really but still pretty cool that he confessed his feelings to her.

I was angry when he left Will's dog shadow to trobar " ill leave her to you and take care of her but if she has any puppy"s can i have one" which it was OK when he said if she has dogs can i have one.I thought the ending og this book was amazing how he wanted to leave his post just to see alyss and how he felt happy for once in a long time.

i give this book five out five because for once its makes me happy to read a book. If you love adventure and action you must and i mean you must read this book. There's more to this story and there's more to come.

Yes, I actually read this book in one day … It’s rather surprising what you manage to read when you have neither a smartphone nor a computer at hand. xD
The Siege of Macindaw is the sixth book of the Ranger’s Apprentice series. It starts immediately after the ending of book five. Alyss is still stuck in Macindaw, Will is hiding with the ‘magician’ in the forest and Horace is making his way north. This is the culmination of everything that was started in the last book. The character threats and plot lines are all wrapped up more or less nicely. Yay! No cliffhanger this time!
Some random comments.
Shadow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m an emotional mess and that was sad even if it was also really sweet.
Did Horace just actually lie? Halt really must have rubbed off on him! Good for you! xD
Oh … romance! In all fairness, that one … I didn’t really feel. I think the author is a lot better at writing humor and action than emotional development … but then again, I’m a woman and the MC is a man … maybe men just don’t think about love as much as women … what do I know?
Anyway, this is still a quick and fun series and I have the next four books waiting for me at home (yay for libraries!)

Trochę naciągane to 4, dalab bardziej 3,75.

The archery fight scene in the tower stairway as Will was on his way to save Alyss went incredibly hard, absolutely ate, and definitely the best part of this book. Sadly I still do not care about Will and Alyss's relationship, they just lack chemistry in my opinion :( But I am happy to see Will happy! And every book just proves to me more and more that Horace is absolutely my favorite character

Quotes:
"'There was some mention of food?' he reminded them. Horace always did have a good grasp of priorities."

"Sometimes, life threw up problems that even the wisest, most trusted mentor couldn't solve for you. It was part of the pain of growing up.
And having to stand by and watch was part of the pain of being a mentor."

"Oh, for god's sake, snap out of it! he told himself. So you're on your own. That's the way you chose to be. You chose it when you chose to be a Ranger. You chose it again when you wouldn't take the risk of telling Alyss how you felt about her. So stop moping and get on with life. Do something useful. Light a fire and make dinner."

"He was conscious of an unfamiliar sensation, something he hadn't felt for some time. Then he realized what it was and smiled quietly.
It was happiness."

The Siege of Macindaw was much better than The Sorcerer in the North. I was glad to have Horace back - his and Will's relationship (and banter!) is becoming one of my favourite part of the series. I liked seeing them work together without Halt or Crowley or any of the other mentors. And getting some Skandians back on the scene was fantastic. They always supply some comic relief and epic fight sequences.

Overall, a great sequel. I look forward to getting some answers in Erak's Ransom.
