The major work on CJS Purdy, originally titled "CJS Purdy, His Life, His Games and His Writings." His biography (by his wife), his writings and philosophy (over 200 pages of his best articles), and 50 deeply annotated games. Perhaps the best instruction book ever written. Belongs on every chess bookshelf-- Bobby Fischer. This revised edition has corrections, additions, and some games deleted. Part of the Purdy Library.
Outstanding! Basically three books in one. First, a 28 page biography. Secondly, almost 200 pages of chess articles aimed at instructing the chess club player. Thirdly, 50 of his best games annotated. As far as I am concerned, Purdy was the best writer/instructor on chess for the average player ever! He seems to be able to put ideas across in a straight-forward way. This book is quite simply outstanding.
Cecil Purdy's books are a fountain of information. His annotations are both deep and very instructive. This book contains a lot of great material and includes background into his personal life.
