About the author

As a child, Thiago got told off constantly for doodling instead of paying attention. He still gets told off constantly, but not so much for the doodling, these days.

Thiago writes and illustrates all sorts of books, from picture books to fiction and non-fiction. The Zoomers’ Handbook (written with his wife Ana), was published in 2015 by Andersen Press. It was on the long list for the Klaus Flugge award and won the Sheffield Children’s Books Award in 2016.

Myth Atlas - a guide through 12 worlds of myth and legend - was published by Alison Green Books/Scholastic in September 2018 and has been translated to 16 languages so far.

He lives in London with his wife, children and pet tortoise, Nibbles, and is working on a bunch of new books and comics.

Wooh- what a comprehensive book for younger readers! As a fan of history who is collecting works for my future little ones, I was instantly attracted to the comical art style and depth of this work by Thiago de Moraes. It’s definitely for older children, however; 15 different cultures and societies come alive with interesting descriptions, none of which shy away from dirty aspects of history. Positives? The work shows off a broad spectrum of historical communities, from the Ethiopians to the Egyptians, and even has a section at the end for what trends our current age prioritizes. The illustrations are detailed, and the facts are informative (even for adults). Negatives? It’s a little difficult to locate the numbered facts on those detailed illustrations, and adults will have some interesting discussions with their kiddos about human sacrifice, abolishing slavery, and what the heck concubine means. If you or your child is ready to take these steps, this is a great first start!

Обичате ли историята? А как я обикнахте? При мен това се случи още в ранно детство, чрез комиксите и анимационните филми за Астерикс и Обеликс, знаменитите герои на Госини и Юдерзо, както и чрез хумористичната илюстрована поредица „Страховитото в историята“ на Тери Диъри. Но съм абсолютно убеден, че едно ново и тотално епично заглавие на „Жанет 45“ ще има същия ефект върху редица деца. Книгата „Исторически атлас“, написана и илюстрирана от Тиаго де Мораеш, е огромно (и високо информативно) забавление в огромен формат, което пращи по шевовете от заразително чувство за хумор и изумителни факти. A lavishly illustrated and welcome history refresher

Ciekawa, krótka, prosta lektura z ogromem zawartej w sobie wiedzy. Ilustracje nie trafiły w moją estetykę, ale były urozmaicone, szczegółowe i dobrane do tematu. Duży plus za opisanie mniej obecnych w kulturze cywilizacji i za sporą świadomość społeczną. Książka mogłaby być dłuższa i bardziej szczegółowa, ale i tak naprawdę świetnie się bawiłam. Za to duży minus za tłumaczenie. Nie wszystkie słowa doczekały się żeńskich form, choć w książce obecne są feminatywy.

La verdad es que quedé encantada con este libro. Me tome el tiempo de leerlo con calma e investigando sobre los personajes que aparecen, y creo que eligieron bien las civilizaciones representadas.

An interesting illustrated atlas for the young readers. I enjoyed very much even though I am not really part of the target audience. Perfect illustrations!
