Twisted Webs

Rate this book
Out of love and desperation a good, religious man takes fate into his own hands and commits an unthinkable crime, which pulls at two worlds until they finally collide.

Ashleigh Taylor gives birth to identical baby girls. Hours later, a parent's worst nightmare occurs: one of her daughters is kidnapped. Twisted Webs unravels the mystery of the abduction of Callie's identical twin, Cassie, who is never to be called by her real name.

In the eight traumatic years that follow, tightly woven webs of deception encase two families.

With candor and sensitivity, Darlene Quinn probes the shock and despair, the anger and frustration of parents suddenly missing a child and the long-term effects on a family wrestling with these emotions. Each of the novel's complementary storylines--Paige Toddman's reunion with her mother, Viviana De Mornay's secret, and others--ties to the redemptive theme of motherhood.

Suspense electrifies the pages of every short, fast-paced chapter of each book in the standalone Webs series!

Prior to being an author and speaker, Quinn was a teacher in the public school system, a self-improvement and modeling instructor, a private contractor for the city, department stores (Bullock's/Robinson's), and hospitals.

Darlene has two children, John and Jodie, six wonderful grandchildren, and lives with her husband and greatest supporter, Jack, in Long Beach and Big Bear, California.

A soap opera between the covers, Twisted Webs by Darlene Quinn is a page-turner that I found myself unable to put down after just a few pages. How far would you go for someone you loved? Would you steal a newborn child, regardless of the pain that will forever be etched into the hearts of the family who lost her? How many webs must be woven to hide the child from her biological family?

In the continuing Webs series, Twisted Webs has the benefit of the foundation already put in place by Webs of Power where life in the world of the wealthy and powerful corporate wolves prey upon their unsuspecting victims. Now we are taken into the more personal and private world of these giants in the fashion industry, their more human side. One family grieves the loss of one of their newborn twin daughters, no amount of money can find her. One family rejoices in the miraculous “generosity” of a troubled young teen. But is that really what happened? Will the truth ever come out?

Spanning a period of eight years in the separate lives of these two families, Ms. Quinn does a remarkable job of moving the story along without a hitch. The emotional distress, the feelings of loss, the “not quite”healing for the Taylor family knows no monetary bounds; it is universal. Conversely, when the adoptive mother learns and admits the truth of her daughter’s birth, her pain and fear of discovery and what she will do to prevent that is like an emotional vise around your heart. How much love does it take to make things right? What is right, after eight years? Can there be forgiveness? Is compromise possible? What about the twins?

Ms. Quinn hit this one out of the emotional park. This is a story of family, of bonds, of fate and timing as the wheel of life turns, until one day, the brakes are thrown and the webs converge in an amazing climax that will make the twists and turns worth the journey.

A baby girl is stolen, and tightly woven webs of deception encase her and two families for eight traumatic years.
The stunningly beautiful and elegant Ashleigh Taylor gives birth to twin daughters while she's in Long Beach visiting her father figure, Charles Stuart, the founder of Bentley's Royale. Hours later, a parent's worst nightmare occurs: Cassie is kidnapped. Twisted Webs unravels the mystery of the abduction of Callie's identical twin. With the same drama, tension, and high style that hooked readers of Webs of Power, the author invites loyal fans and readers new to the series to step into this provocative sequel set in the 1990s. There is plenty going on to keep them turning pages all the way to the end.
Suspense electrifies the pages of each short, fast-paced chapter. Could Caroline Stuart have hired someone to kidnap the infant because of her deranged jealousy and desire for the Taylor family to suffer pain, as she does? Is the Jordon's department store executive a suspect because of personal grief? The abducted twin's father hires a deeply empathetic detective to answer those and many other questions that arise during her disappearance--at the close of which the author has crafted a knockout ending.

My 2 cents:

The story was intense, suspenseful, had lots of twists and lots of different emotions though out the book. It was not a bad read. It was a sequel to Webs of Power, that I have not read. You do not have to read it though to follow along. The author did a good job bring some information to this story to keep you up to date. I do not know what I would do in their situation it was a happy ending all around. The story spans over 8 years and the pace was good.

This book is the follow up to Webs of Power: A Novel which I have not read but think that the back story is explained enough without having to read the previous book...
Because I had not read anything by Darlene Quinn before when I came across Twisted Webs the description made me curious to read it, I wanted to see how the author would have her characters handle not only the kidnapping of their infant twin daughter but all the other changes in their lives as well... This story is compelling, full of tension and dramatic suspense, and most of all the familial ties that bind us all together whether by blood or choice! The ending will have you in tears of joy even as it may be something you need to think about to come to your own conclusion of what you yourself would do if faced with the decision made by the characters!
Covering a span of eight years the reading is engaging, the pace steady and the story just goes to show you that the world we all live in can be a pretty small place..
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was a wonderfully "human" look into a world that will never be part of my own but fascinates me all the same.
Twisted Webs lived up to it's name and then some and I look forward to reading more works from the author in the future....

Ashleigh Taylor was introduced in the previous book about the department super powers and their fall to leveraged buy outs. Twisted Webs takes a step back from the corporate world and looks more into the personal lives of the characters. Ashleigh has twins - but one is stolen from the cradle in the hospital days after they are born. As the hunt for the missing twin begins - we follow the lives of both sides throughout the entire story.

Some favorite characters are brought back and the small world of retailing and fashion force the kidnapped twins family and Ashleigh's family into each other's sphere time and again - with close calls and finally a recognition. The thing that really stands out in this whole drama is the lack of a bad guy. The family that has the missing twin has no idea that their daughter was kidnapped. Once the story comes to light, the story begins to really unfold in a very interesting way.

The ending was brilliant. I don't think Darlene Quinn could have done better with it. Ashleigh's attitude during the story was amazing. The strain it put on her relationships was very real. A very well-done story.

Twisted Webs is one of "those books". . . a memorable book that is so powerfully imbedded in your mind it seeps into your daily life. A co-worker or a friend's action easily reminds you of a particularly enjoyable chapter of this mesmerizing book. Darlene Quinn's Twisted Webs, the second book in her Webs Series creates powerful and gripping memories that will be difficult to escape.

Darlene Quinn nailed down the characters in Twisted Webs so definitively you feel you know them intimately. You're easily scooped up into the action and taken on a journey with people you care about. In Twisted Webs we are witness to a horrific crime, the kidnapping of a newborn twin baby girl. We feel the anguish of a new mother who gave birth to the twins and is desperate to know who took her other baby girl. Where is she? Is she being cared for? Is she still alive? Will she ever know her the love of her true mother?

The fate of the stolen twin takes our emotions on ride of anguish, despair, empathy, anger, and hope, leaving us feeling as conflicted as the characters we are reading about. The twisted webs of this intriguing tale will keep you turning the pages deep into the night. Bravo!

I was given a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley, in return for an honest review.

"Twisted Webs" is supposedly a novel about a set of twins, one of which is kidnapped just hours after their birth. This was a long book, and not just the 465 pages. I could typically read a book of this length within 4 days, a week tops. But this one took me a month. I just couldn't get into the story. Not the advertised story, I was very into that, but it wasn't really about the twins. By the time I had reached page 300, there had been approximately only 20 pages dedicated to the girls. Not only was I misled about what this book was about, the actually story line appeared to be a continuation of another novel, one that I have not read, nor was I interested in. I highly recommend that readers pick up the previous book by Ms Quinn before settling in to this one. It will probably save you a great deal of headache. I wish someone had given me this advice.

It was barely an "ok" story for me. I'm sure that I would have rated it higher if I had had a vested interest in the characters, as I'm sure I would have had I read the prequel.

When you read one of Ms. Quinn's Webs series, you meet a family, much like any other family. This family has good days and bad days, good relations and not-so-good relations, employment problems and family interactions. . The corporate world is represented by the large department store conglomerates as they jockey for customers and power. Twisted Webs continues with this saga
The real essence of this latest offering is family. We learn how the twins found each other, how they cope, and how resilient they become.
Ms Quinn manages the scope of family trials, duels and reconciliations very well. The "evil sister" approach is handled with aplomb and reads like it actually happened to someone. We all cope with personal issues in individual ways. There is nothing different is this novel.

All Ms. Quinn's books are easy to read, thoughtful, and do not hold back on sensitive issues.
I highly recommend you read this, (after you have read the first one). reading them in order is not required, but it is a good idea.

I had absolutely no idea that this was a sequel until someone recently told me. It is a standalone book to me and you do not need to read the first book. I didn’t and haven’t.

The main focus of the book is the abduction of a twin baby girl from the hospital right after her birth. It focuses on the lives of all of the characters and how the abduction affects their lives.

Loved the action and “twists” but I did feel the ending was a bit trite. That said, I would still recommend it. The book was worth the time and price.

If a child is kidnapped, I have always felt contempt for the kidnapper. This books and it’s “twists” makes you think twice about being judgmental. The characters were shown from very different points of view.

I hated to put the book down but was grateful for the short chapters so that I could. It is a page turner!!!

This is a gifted story teller/author. I heartily recommend “Twisted Webs”.

Did feel the ending was a little too much like the plot of a 70’s movie about twins.

There couldn’t be a better title for this book. There were a whole lot of twists and turns in the story and it held my attention from first page to last. I don’t know of many people with the wisdom of Ashleigh, particularly when faced with decisions about the future of her kidnapped, then found, twin daughter. Her inclusion of Erica’s family into her own is enviable. We will miss Charles, just as we look forward to what kind of mess Mitchell will be stirring up next. Quinn is unmatched in her knowledge of the history of the rise and fall of the venerable department store and I, like her, miss a lot of the stately old stores that exemplified the best of the best. A big plus in all of her books are the Author’s Notes. If you love the fashion industry, or if you’ve worked in retail, you will especially enjoy the Author’s Notes. I’ve learned a lot from just this section of Quinn’s works. Once again, I’m left wanting more.

*** I was granted this book to read by Greenleaf Book Group via Net Galley***

I am so glad I had this book to read. I knew someone who had already read this and highly recommended it. She was not wrong.

Right at the opening page it draws you into a saga of the stolen/missing baby. It really is a page turner, I've been reading this today in one sitting. I couldn't leave it alone. I wanted to get right into why this baby was taken. A twin. How it affects each family member, and what about the baby twin left behind?

I'm not going to say anymore about the content of the story, just about how good this author is. I loved this read. I shall be looking out for more of her books and highly recommended by myself to you as a fantastic read. One you shouldn't miss out on.

I definitely enjoyed this second book in the series much more than the first. I love the drama of the extended families/friends and seeing how characters lives intertwine whether through good or bad. I couldn't wait to see how things would turn out and found myself rooting the underdog as much as the heroine in the story. While these books contain strong men, I LOVE that they are centered on strong willed, independent women! A great read.

Twisted Webs has been gripping, artfully written and energetic, sorrowful and mean at times. Still, the incandescent search for humanity in every relation it draws the participator towards keeps it alive within goodness at all times. The ending was actually unexpected and yet the hidden message one which the heart constantly seeks.

i haven't read the first book, but will do so as soon as possible.

this book is a sweeping saga of a couple of families and some other people, tied together, plotting against each others, with paths intersecting over and over. it's reminiscent of the Barbara Taylor Bradford books and I greatly enjoyed it.

"What doesn't kill us makes us strong"

How would you cope if one of your identical twins was removed from the hospital at birth and appeared to disappear off the face of the earth? And, if you were reunited eight years later, how would you respond to the woman who had raised her - should the child be wrenched from all that she holds dear, to return to her birth parents?
These are the questions raised by Darlene Quinn in book 2 of the Webs Series.

There is a bit of a cast of thousands and I did eventually have to write myself a 'family' tree to explain who was who, but in brief: Ashley Taylor gives birth to Callie and Cassie, but only Callie returns home with them. Cassie is abducted by Mario Castanelli, to replace the baby his wife has recently lost. Although he knows this is totally wrong, he sees it as the only way to bring Erica out of her depression and back to him.

This book was very much sold as a kidnap story, so I wasn't prepared for all the corporate department store stuff. I tried very hard to get involved with this, I even re-wound a large chunk of the book to try and get a grasp on it, but a complete lack of experience with the corporate world, combined with a narrator who seemed to be in a race against time, I eventually gave up and concentrated on the characters and their social interactions.

I was given this audiobook through Audiobook Boom, in return for an honest review. I would have liked to have given a higher star rating, but I didn't enjoy the narrator, who was not only fast, but also rather strident and not good at male voices (her best voice was the sultry Vivianna). In addition, the business aspect of the narrative left me cold.

Web of Power has laid the foundation for this book. Ashley Taylor, a stunning and beautiful woman, had given birth to twins. When one of the twins is stolen from her crib before they even leave the hospital, Ashley vows to never give up on finding her daughter.

Eight years have passed and they have still not found Cassie. How can no one know where she is? The suspense that is in each chapter as other situations with the other characters evolve, along with finding who took Cassie is brilliantly done by Darlene Quinn.

Could Caroline Stuart have hired someone to kidnap the infant because of her jealousy and desire for the Taylor family to suffer pain, as she does? Was it the Jordan's department store executive a suspect? Cassie's father has hired a detective to help out during the search for Cassie. This book will leave you turning the pages quicker than you realize. I can't wait for the next book to find out what is going to happen next with this cast of characters!

Twisted Webs
: Darlene Quinn

I didn't realize this was a sequel until others were discussing the big department stores, designer fashions and leveraged buy outs. I was hooked on the plot of one of the babies, identical twins was snatched the day she was born. There were some interesting twists and a red herring or two could be found. It kept me interested, but the ending was just too contrived.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Others have criticized Karin Allers work, but I enjoyed it.

This is book two of Darlene Quinn’s Webs series, and I definitely liked this book better than the first book. I’m not entirely sure why I liked this book more than first, maybe it was that it was set in the 1990s or maybe because there was more suspense in this novel than in her prior book, but either way I did like it a bit more. I do have to say that the book was too long in my opinion, the pacing was okay, but there were several points along the way were I stopped to see where I was in the book, thinking I was a lot further along then I actually was.
The idea of dealing with a kidnapping is definitely a good one, it’s something that evokes an emotional response from all people, or at least I would assume so. I thought that the novel didn’t deal with it as much as it could of, in fact it almost felt like a secondary plot line and not really a primary one, which is what I thought it would be. I wish I had more to say about the book, but in general I thought it was quite literally, just okay.

I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway- thank you for the signed copy Darlene Quinn! This book was a soap opera on steroids! I really had to pay attention and familiarize myself with all the characters. I read this as a stand alone book- which was fine. I fell in love with Ashleigh Taylor from the get go and even more so at the very end of the book. The end was beautifully written. I still find myself thinking what would I have done in that situation and would I have acted in the way that Ashleigh and Conrad acted- let me tell you, it would be very hard. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because it was hard to follow at some points and I found myself flipping back pages to figure something out (this may be because I didn't read the book prior to this one) all in all, great drama book- I would love for this to become a movie!!!

i only wished that I had read this novel sooner, as I enjoyed more than I thought I would, especially after realising that it was a sequel. ' I love a good soap opera and this book certainly reminded me of such. Great storyline with plenty of suspense and the kind of ending that I like.

I read this book because someone in my book club chose it. I typically read books that are more challenging and more thought provoking. This book read like a soap opera complete with deception, "coincidences" and high drama. Thankfully, I could skim it and not feel I was missing anything.
