Broken Vows

Rate this book
Rabbi Fred J. Neulander was the respected head of one of the largest synagogues in New Jersey. Yet underneath his hallowed image seethed an unfaithful husband who spoke of desire to see his wife killed. So when Carol Neulander was found bludgeoned to death in the living room of the couple's Cherry Hill home, authorities immediately suspected that the beloved spiritual leader was involved. But without any evidence the case began to stagnate. The complex web of secrets, lies, and murder was only just beginning...

Six years after the killing, private eye Leonard Jenoff came forward with the shocking confession that blew the case wide open: Rabbi Neulander hired Jenoff and Paul Daniels to kill his wife. Incredibly, Jenoff thought he had been hired to kill an anti-Jewish terrorist. Daniels blamed schizophrenia for his involvement. Neulander insisted he was innocent, setting the stage for a sensational trial that would leave a wealthy community shattered and expose a much darker side to this charming man of God.

I loved this book. Being a local in the area where it happened, it was fun to see local business and roads, etc named! I remember this murder when it happened, but never followed it at the time. Reading the detailed events in this book was like reading fiction! But it was all true! Life IS stranger than fiction... :) Regardless, reading the details of the trial were especially interesting because I put myself in the jurors shoes - the cast of characters, the circumstantial evidence.... I see why the first trial could end up as it did. The book stops short of the second trial and that's ok. But reading the results from old newspaper articles finished the story for me.... Great book....highly recommend. It was hard to put down.

I didn't love this one! I read it a while back (I'm new to Goodreads!) and, honestly, now, it's not even that memorable. I did write a review about it when I read it, though, and posted it on my blog.

A Book That Will Keep Posted Eyes Glued To It

A very intoxicating book. I couldn't put it down. I remember the case, more so, because I lived next door to the synagogue. I will recommend this book, to anyone.

A very good book about a fascinating case; unfortunately it ends before the denouement.

I can't figure out why the author ended the book before the retrial. It's a half-completed book.

Another true crime book that is hard to put down. Why do these people think they are going to get away with it?

This was only OK. Respected rabbi has his wife bumped off so he can take up with the lady he's been giving "private Hebrew lessons" to on the side.
