This is a brutally dry book of examples and then more examples embedded within those. However, it was one of the single most important chess books for my growth and development as a player. I read this book cover to cover one summer, playing through every position on a board (I had a primary and secondary board set up for his digressions). After having done so, I improved from a silly 1200-rated kid to a 1600+ rated player in a matter of months. The consistency and clarity of the examples really teach you how to systematically conceptualize and comprehend planning in the game of chess.
