The key is eating great-tasting foods that help keep your blood sugar on an even keel. These foods are broken down and absorbed more slowly in the body and DON'T get stored as fat. Combine that sensible diet with the book's simple walking program and stress- relieving techniques and you'll feel more fit and healthy than you ever have before.
This was a great book. Fast and easy read- i started and finished it on my flight to and from Lihue. It was extremely informative and had a lot of great things to incporporate to my every day life.
i decided to read it because ive come to admit that im a sugar addict and i love my carbs. im a vegan so i pretty much just eat carbs and ive been looking for ways to change that.
even though this book is directed at people with diabetes i think its a great read for everyone. im taking a lot with me- ive started adding cinnamon to my diet, am walking more, and learned so much about foods that are bad for sugar levels.
anyone whos interested in getting healthier or who has sugar issues should definitely pick this up!
I know all this. You would think I could just balance my glycemic intake naturally by now. I'm a retired nurse! I practice yoga regularly. I jog, walk, bicycle. I meditate for heavens sake! Why should it be so difficult to balance my nutritional in-take when I have succeeded in finding balance in so many other aspects of my life! I keep trying.
Painfully, stereotypically sexist.. I cringed so much while reading this. Having said that, this book has a lot of helpful information and was a quick read. The cover of the copy I read made it seem like it was edited by the staff at Prevention Magazine rather than being written by their team. That sort of explains the cringe.
This book answered a lot of questions I've had about nutrition, specially about metabolism, blood-sugar, hormones, and weight loss. Great information, well-organized and well-documented.
I have to return it to the library but plan on getting it again to read the rest. (I'm too hungry for good fiction right now.)
There were a lot of interesting facts in here, coupled with some tips and recipes that are for real live human beings that have to cook their own meals, they don't require a gazillion dollars and a personal chef! Which was very refreshing. My family had no problem eating the food when I made some of the changes.
This is a great book. I believe it was intended to be read by people with diabetes, but I found it very interesting. A good portion of the book describes how sugar and insulin affect your hunger and how to control it with food.
