The fiercely private Madeleine-Cora Spencer is the last person who should be on a reality TV show, but when she's shunned by a friend's new wife because "you can't trust desperate single women" her pain and humiliation drive her straight to the "Find Your Prince" dating show's web site.
Armed with date-appropriate clothes and a detailed game plan she arrives to meet her potential loves, only to be dumped... on a remote island with seven ex-boyfriends.
I am a natural 1200 wpm speed reader and the author of twenty-three self-published novels including the free ebook "Life, Love, and a Polar Bear Tattoo" which has had over 400,000 downloads.
In my spare time, I read, run, swim, crochet, take care of my cat Pearl, and play drums and clarinet. Generally not all at once.
I only record books here if I absolutely love them and hugely recommend them. I definitely read more than you see here. :)
fun ,fast and fantastic that's exactly what this book is to me ;)
3.5 stars ! honestly speaking right now im a bit confused on how i feel about the bok, rating wise but seriously had lads of fun picking this....and of course falling in lve with the secondary lead 'Aaron ' instead of 'Kent' ;) this book was chic-lite through & through, and i think that was exactly what i needed last night to chill...
i liked the pent up relationship between our two leads MC and Kent, their story seemed unfinished from the very beganing, with them never really moving on from each other while they strung along the rest of them.. but still im glad they go their DRAMATIC HEA after all....
i really have to put a good word ,my guy ,Aaron here, because sweet heart TRUST ME ....if i was MC and I WAS STUCK ON THAT ISLAND WITH YOU....i would have jumped on ur bones ages ago...i mean,we would probably be married or somthing by now, with u owing a box of warm woolen socks...LOL
RECOMMENDATION : fun yet satisfying read, a good chic-lite, YA choice..will totally leave u with a smile :)
“Game on. How was that fair, when we didn’t know the rules? They could change at any time and I probably wouldn’t even realise Id made a mistake until it was over. Well, look at that. This would be like dating after all.
What a freaking fun read this was. Picked it up on Amazon for free. Totally would of paid for it. I’m a massive fan of reality TV I think that’s why I liked it so much. most reality TV like Geordie shore, my big fat gypsy wedding, big brother, bachelor, not those stupid cooking shows! The trashier the better I say
Madeleine-Cora drunkenly applied for the reality TV show ”Find your Prince” . What MC got was a bachelorette meets survivor type show. Except the 7 contestants are her Ex boyfriends. or s she thinks
They flown off to an Island and stripped of majority of their possessions. and then introduced to their opposing team. It is Kent – the one that got away. And his 7 Ex Girlfriends. for the record, Im aware that I swear like a sailor but I do not say the see you next Tuesday word and have all my friends trained to say Kent instead of it so I changed his name to Kevin when I read so If I start talking about Kevin I am talking about him LOL**
So it becomes MC And her men against Kevin and his women. What transpires is HILARIOUS! Just like watching Survivor and Bachelorette. Alliance’s strategies. offers to split the money. Backstabbing. Competiveness. Challenges.yes even eating disgusting shit to win! Failures. Rewards. Loooove
It’s just great the whole book was a real hoot! This one part where MC gets her period! LOL
If you’re a fan of these 2 shows def give it a go!
Suspenseful Reality! Loved this book! Have been trying to find the best category fit for the 5 Heather Wardell books I’ve read thus far and “Suspenseful Reality” seems to fit the best. I initially shelved them as chick lit, but not so. Each book has me anxious or at times on the edge of my seat (Life, Love and a Polar Bear Tattoo) to find out if the heroine is going to find her HEA or not, and always down to the last few pages.
Seven Exes are Eight too Many has been my favorite book so far. The reality show premise and the story line is freshly different, wacky and entertaining. MC being surprisingly stranded on an island game show with 7 of her ex-boyfriends brings all sorts of drama. During the read I’m trying to figure out exactly which guy will end up as MC’s love interest, if any of them at all. Just as I think I’ve chosen the right one MC goes in another direction. Some of them better choices than others. Each background story with each ex is given enough detail that I knew exactly which one I’d boot off that island if given the choice. The story is fun and the characters charming and quirky. The issues each heroine faces in Ms. Wardell’s books are so down to earth and real that it feels like you know her personally. Each book seems to stay with me a while after I’ve read them.
Once again I didn’t want to put this book down until I’d finished finding out exactly what happens. Oh, the suspense!!! It takes you right down to near the very end. This is an adorably cute story and definitely not one to miss. Heather’s books will be a “buy” for me in the future and I’m looking forward to her next one.
Sometimes starting to read a book and after one chapter you already know it is yak. Some books get the benefit of the doubt. However there are books after reading a few pages you are sure, this is going to be a splendid reading.
Seven exes is such a book, just started it, but already love it.
And now that I have finished it I only can say WOW, fantastic what a splendid book. A book to keep and read it again.
I am not a fan of reality TV. I’d rather keep out the Kardashian’s than keep up with them, and just the thought of shows like Jersey Shore make me question society’s mental stability. There’s no denying that they have taken over main stream media, (hell… I can’t even go 10 minutes without seeing a tweet about Snookie) but what happens when it trickles over into literature?
Madeleine-Cora is a private person… or at least she was until one night she tried extreme drinking and as a result signed up for a television dating game. No problem right? Put on a cute dress, fill out some questionnaires, and pick out your hottie. It’s just to bad it didn’t turn out that way. Instead, MC is thrown onto an island (sans soap) and told to “work it out” What does that mean exactly? Well it roughly translates into “Sorry we lied to you, but here are 8 of your ex boyfriends, 7 of which you will be camping with, and make sure you don’t wipe with poison ivy.” Will MC survive the onslot of bitter men she is now forced to co-exsist with? And more importantly… what will happen when she realizes there’s more at stake than a just a million dollars?
I first fell in love with Heather Wardell’s unique way of story telling in “Go Small or Go Home” and I’m happy to say my opinion stands. There is nothing better than finding love in unexpected places and Wardell’s knack for “creating the experience” is one of a kind, but even with all her “pole standing” and “peroxide” moments, her characterization is where she really shines.
MC is a complicated creature (ok… maybe complicated isn’t the right word… lets go with neurotic) and her emotional roller-coasters could have very easily turned into pages of unnecessary whining, but instead, we were offered emotional depth with limited dialogue (think “a look is worth a thousand words.”) As a reader I was so entranced by gestures and their meanings that even the slightest of nods had me questioning characters motives, and in turn kept me glued to the book. But that’s not all, with a book so full of lively (or arrogant) personalities it was almost inevitable that a few of them would fall through the cracks… not the case. Each player held their own, and in some cases had moments of genuine shinyness (<– pretty sure that’s not a word.) of their very own.
So…where do I stand on the “reality is my life” poll now? That’s easy…reality TV still sucks, but reality fiction… that’s a whole new ballgame.
Get it, Live it, Love it…Pass it on, because this one is a keeper folks. Great plot, flawless writing, and an unexpected heart flutter here and there.
Happy reading my fellow Kindle-ites and remember: The buddy system was created for a reason people… USE IT!
I absolutely <3'd this book! It was so funny and had just the right amount of drama and a load of other emotions. Even had me tearing up throughout the book in certain spots! I was guessing all the way to the end who MC was going to end up with in the end, if anyone at that!
MC, I freaking loved her! I could so see myself being best friends with her, she had just the right amount of bitchness, shyness,etc...! How she survived being with 8 of her ex-boyfriends is beyond me. Although when she threw that one contest only to find out that was how her ex's really did feel about her, i felt so bad for her. But she took it and learned and she changed for the better in the end she was more certain of herself in the end!
Kent, I liked him and I kept trying to figure out what was going on with him in the end. It was obvious he still cared a great deal about MC but thought he was doing the right thing in the end by letting her go! Although I did feel the need to slap him up side of his head Gibb's style!
Aaron, he was just this perfect guy but one that knew he wasn't the right one for MC and owned up to it. Instead they became good friends and they were both okay with it the end and were able to be around each other on a daily basis in the end!
As for the rest of the guys they ranged from being someone who I could careless about to wanting to punch them in the nuts for the idiotic things they said and did! Overall I loved the story and characters and I really and truly recommend to everyone!
This book was definitely unique that I will say. I mean who would want to be on an island for 21 days with 8 exs. Not me that's for sure.
So MC gets drunk one night and fills out the form to find your prince which is a reality tv show like survivor. She shows up and the the rules have changed on her. It's not 7 new guys but her exs. They have a chance to win a million dollars and they do stupid challenges to win.
The first part of the book started cute and a little funny. I had a issues with remembering all the names and who was who. Only a few stuck out. Second this is labeled a romance but hardly any romance is going on until the end of the book. I thought this book would be more like the bachelor but nope it was like survivor.
MC dated most of these guys before her ex Kent and none of them she kept. She didn't have a connection or even give them a chance to have one since she is still hung up on Kent. And the reason she ended a two year relationship with Kent had to be one of the stupidest reasons in the world. She ended it because he brother heard them having sex and he was embarrassing her in front of Kents family who laughed it off.
After a while I got tired of the challenges and wanted to see a romance bloom but that happens literally at the very end of the book. I was just hoping this would be so much more then it was. I thought MC was picky with her exs but I did like she ended up becoming friends with some of them.
It had its entertaining moments but it just didn't have enough romance for my taste.
Whatever you do please add this book immediately to your to read pile and ensure you read this cutesy gem in the near future!
For all you reality junkie fans this book will have you salivating for more!!
I literally could not put this book down. I needed to know more and waned to know more. And in the end I was left absolutely happy and grinning like a fool.
Ya know when you're that giddy happy and makes you want to do silly things and has you giggling like a school girl on crack? Well that's how it left me feeling and I want more to this story.
I have to thank Kellie for her effin fantastical review because after reading it I just had to go and purchase the book and read it then and there. Virtual High Five coming your way woman!
MC gets sent to an island with her exes as part of a reality tv show and I got totally hooked on this book! I love reality tv and I loved this book. The reality show was familiar and yet had a bunch of twists along the way. A couple of times I wanted to yell at MC for being so dense and not seeing what was so obviously in front of her, but that just fuel me to turn the pages. Overall it was a really fun, exciting and satisfying story! I'll definitely be reading more by this author!!
I don't like reality TV. The few that I've seen doesn't have much appeal for me. Maybe because I feel it's a violation of privacy, albeit with consent.
This book is reality TV in written format. Not sure if it's just me, but there were several times that I had to go back to read again for better understanding. There were a lot of characters, it was a bit confusing for me. It helped that the story was simple.
Anyway, I believe it is best to leave on TV those that belong there.
Wow I was once again impressed with this book. It wasn't nearly as emotional as the first one I read by Heather but it was just as engaging. I loved the premises of the book and the question of what if you were trapped with 7 of your exes and everything you did or said was filmed. How would you feel? And what if one of the exes was the one that got away due to a stupid mistake? I thought Heather did a nice job juggling 9 plus personalities where you had enough to judge them and feel as if you got to know enough of them and the ones that you didn't care about you still got to know them. It was nice without being too much. I enjoyed both the H/H and the extras LOL if that makes sense (and it would if you read it)
THINGS I LIKED:
- Uh hello the whole freaking plot EXCELLENT who in the world would want to be trapped on an island with their exes? Could you? I think not. This had it all fighting, crying, laughing, bonding, growth *sigh* yeah a good plot.
- I enjoyed the men which is strange b/c at first I felt horrible for MC being trapped with them but, then I watched as they matured and as MC matured and wow I just liked them all. I am kind of sad none of my exes would be like that LOL they would actually try to kill me.
- I liked that the main character learned from her mistakes GOD it took a while but she was able to learn from past mistakes and to make things better.
THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE:
- I hated, hated that MC wouldn’t forgive KENT for the love of GOD woman give it up already LORD help me I get it. You have secrets, you’re a private person, he betrayed (in a very stupid way) GET OVER IT. Ok rant done.
-Side rant. Seriously how could she not know that Kent THREW the damn contest so she could talk to her dad? Serioiusly?!?!
The Bachelor meets Survivor in this nightmare inducing (the circumstances, not the writing) Sunday afternoon read about a girl who is tragically duped when she signs up for a dating show. I am an unashamed member of #bachelornation. So when I came across this little gem, I knew I would either love it or hate it. Thankfully as you can surmise by my rating, I was not disappointed.
Madeleine-Cora (MC) Spencer signs up to meet her new Prince on a dating show. Seems easy enough, right? So very very wrong! Poor MC arrives to find that not only is she sorely regretting her wardrobe choices when she finds out that she is going to be stranded on an island, but also is surrounded by SEVEN of her exes as contestants to be her Prince.
Can I just cut in here to say holy crap on a burnt cracker! I would go batcrazy bananas if I was suddenly surrounded by nearly all of the men from my past who had, might I add, also been duped into signing a contract for a show of which they had to be stuck…with me…on an island. Shudders, anyway…after being stripped of most of their possessions, MC and her Court are introduced to their opposing team: Kent (MC’s “one” that got away) and his seven exes. Awkwardness and drama with a capital D!
The author created a fast and entertaining read that kept me hooked. Simple as that. While there were a few moments while the reader is submerged in the island life that seemed to drag for me, I still was more than happy to sit tight and wait. I definitely crushed out on a few of the exes, but my favorite had to be Aaron. He just was bound and determined to make you smile. I think perhaps I would have fallen for Kent a tad bit harder had there been more to go on until the end, but he was still a contender.
I have no doubt that while this is my first Heather Wardell book, it certainly will not be my last.
When i was asked to read and review this book for the author, the synopsis had me intrigued and my god it didn't disappoint.
MC applies for an reality dating show or so she thinks, she has a suprise of her life when she see's not one but eight of her ex boyfriends also on the show but the twist gets better. How can she possibly find her prince charming, when she has already dated all of them.
This book is a light heart warming read, it will keep you interested until the end. I loved learning all the personalities of the Ex's, I had my favourites and some just annoyed me.The story flowed really well and was really enjoyable. Seven Exes Are eight too Many as an happily ever after but who with?
This is the first time I have read a book by Heather Wardell.. Will not be the last... Her latest novel.. Seven Exes Are Eight Too Many.. is a an awesome romantic comedy...It had me laughing out loud and I cried a few times...Loved all the Characters.. but at times wanted to smack MC she was so difficult to relate to.. I do not watch reality TV so this was a leap in the dark for me... so happy I took the leap.. Will not give the story away detest spoilers.. If you love a good romantic comedy this is the book for you.. and if you want to know what happens read this book I can assure you.. you will not be disappointed
I felt this book was a cross between Blind Date and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!!
I did find that I got a bit confused with the amount of characters in the book although the author described all of the characters brilliantly.
I felt that the story was aimed at a younger audience than me!, but on the plus side, there were some very funny situations during the trials that they had to do before the winner was announced and you found out who MC ended up with!
I enjoyed first half of the book, it was funny and i like a few MC's exes like Sam and Aaron. Then i don't enjoyed it much in latter half. Mainly because of MC. She either seeking physical comfort or lashing on her teammates (exes). Her action is unlikeable.
She seriously hurt on broken up with Kent so i thought maybe he did something bad, like cheating on her or something. Noo, the break-up cause is..i'm too lazy to write here because it's just some trivial thing! What the hell? That's it? That's the cause of BIG break up that she never want to talk about? *Facepalm here* I means if Kent did that many times, i probably understand it, but no it was just one time and she breaking up with him right then and left his house that instant and hold a grudge ever since. Really? No second chance for Kent? For something that not even a big deal? She just so dramatic.
In latter half of the book, she almost always angry and yell to her teammates while they trying to be supportive and cheer her up. It's tiring and she come off as ungrateful.
The last chapters where they go live, it's just bland and the ending was cheesy. I would like it better if she ended up alone and there are open possibility on Kent or someone.
The writing was okay, but the main character ruin it
Skimmed, and happy I did. This book was not what I thought. There was something odd about it. Lke it was written for a younger audience. I expected it to be fun. In a way , it was. But I also found it to drag quite a bit. The main characters name was M.C , whih in itself was a bit odd, but I could go with that. I had trouble remembering some of the guys, except a few who stood out. Sam , Aaron and Phillip. The reality show is more like stranded then like the bachelor, which I shoud have expected, it says so in the description. For whatever reason the thought of it being like a reality show and actually reading it is completely different. Maybe it the current mood I'm in, but I'm pretty sure I won't go back to this one. A Very light book, hated the ending, and who the M.C ended up with, seemed like a waste to me. My advice is if your not feeling it by the third chapter, maybe call it quits.
I did find this book entertaining but so many things bothered me or were lacking. The game was not developed enough, the romance was "bad"(I am a romance junkie so I can't appreciate a book in which the main couple get closer only at the very end and up until then the hero kissed and made out with his ex-wife he married and loved just after his relationship with the heroine (I think having his point of view would have made it better there)) and I needed so much more answers/insight. Furthermore, the only character I actually liked was Aaron, maybe because he was the only one I had the impression to know.
It reads like a good fanfiction. Now, I'm a lot more lenient to fanfiction than I am to an actual book, and this book had several problems. The most important one would be the lack of characterization. It was hard to keep the characters apart, which is very important with a book with so many characters. The plot was quite simple and over all it was an enjoyable read, though I wouldn't say it was very well-written or well-thought out.
This reminded me so much of the MTV shows like Are you the one and Ex on the beach and I love it. Writing style is nice to read and the flow is nice too. Writing so many characters must have been super hard and it was difficult to differentiate them too I admit, but as the story went on you do learn them a bit better. The games were nice and MC did have huge character development in my opinion. I enjoyed it very much ^^
A nice new twist on the reality show romance trope. I didn't particularly love any of the characters, but the idea of being isolated on an island with seven exes certainly makes for some interesting storylines. One thing that I really appreciated was the expectation that exes could become friends, which is a nice change from all of those books where the heroine hates all of her past lovers.
As I started the book I didn't think I'd like reading about a reality show especially when the contestants were tricked into it. But I ended up loving the characters and the story. I loved MC & Kent and Aaron & so many others. I do find it odd that the characters we got to know the least (Kent's exes) are the ones who have the next books in the series; I'll give it a shot though.
