Enlightened master, Paramahansa Yoganandaji’s most advanced disciple’s life was Sri Rajarshi Janakananada who lived like a saint, albeit being a millionaire. His life served to inspire me immensely to take up spirituality despite being in a hectic career as mine. The entire books speaks about the disciple’s life as a a highly-successful businessman and how it was full of success and yet spiritually starved (the person longed for inner peace). The book shares about how he met his guruji Paramahansa Yogananda ( when he travelled to the West to teach them Indian spirituality and yoga) whose healing presence and loving tutelage made him learn the art of meditation and achieving inner stillness and peace. The book shares many loving exchanges between guruji and his disciple which serve and some very useful excerpts for many devotees on the spiritual path. One might become surprised to learn about Sri Janakananada‘s instant dedication towards the spiritual path, the stories revealing how often he meditated everyday simply because he began getting intoxicated by his spiritual practices (which is experiencing the presence of God within, which is inner peace, bliss, and ever-new joy). He mentions somewhere, “God is more tempting that any earthly temptation.”
This is a must-read for anybody who is seeking to start on the spiritual path because the book will serve to inspire him in grasping the truth that mankind is seeking nothing but the self, the presence of God ( or ever-new joy) within himself.
Interesting book, but most of it was actually letters from Yogananda to Rajarsi. I found it interesting that there was no mention of the relationship between Rajarsi and his wife during this time. I was hoping to hear more about how a house-holder was able to maintain job, family, friends while still being on the path.
