Amber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.

When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.

During those seconds she isn't writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of 'what if' and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.

Despite her husband's insistence she doesn't drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.

She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres..

She also writes under the name Mikela Q. Chase

This is not your typical vampire story. No way. No how. The vamp shall taketh and Nicholas shall taketh away. :snickering: It was there and I just had to. But if you don’t read this one you’re truly missing out on a story that will have you bent over laughing and yours eyes tearing non-stop. The hilarity of it is that no matter what Nicholas thought both Damian and John along with every other vamp knew about the private little warfare of his thoughts and it always came back to kick Nicholas in the arse.

Nicholas is outrageously blunt. There’s no bullshitting with him or pulling the wool over his eyes. He tells it like he sees it and thinks even if his thoughts are invaded by vamps. Anything that comes out of Nicholas mouth will set you into fits of laughter. Dude is really one of those: throw me shit and I’ll throw it right back. He’s tough, a hotshot and can smack you down.

Damian wanted Nicholas so bad that he took what he wanted without asking and suckered him in to being his life mate. In Nicholas way of thinking? Big fawking no, no. This guy needed to lighten up. I mean come on! Does offering to kill someone or stating touch him or hurt him I’m going to kill you backup his claim to Nicholas being HIS for Eternity in any way? Nicholas does find Damian hard to resist at every turn, but he can dish it out and back at you two-fold. I’m convinced without a doubt that Nicholas missed his calling and stand up comedian is the road path he should have taken.

Oh shite and let’s not forget the added little fur-ball, Hell kitty, who will shell-shock you and just when you thought you’ve read it all in this book? Well you damn well haven’t till you’ve been intro’d to Simon. He’s the cream of the crop or is that the fuzz of the ball? I liked the added touch of the cat, but I hafta admit that the story started spiral, get a little whacked and funked from there on out after the hairball started talking. Oops, spoiler. My bad!

One of the best Amber Kell books I’ve read so far and although it’s in that dreaded first person it surpasses all her other books I’ve read to date.

These words I won't forget said by Nicholas about Damian: “Did you drop him on his head when he was a new vampire?”

It's quirky and funny, but it ends waaay too fast. It builds up an interesting plot and introduces lots of characters and in the end it seems to just cut off the story.
Sure, the main couple is finally a couple, but that doesn't mean the story should be over. If it was just about them, then why itntroduce all the other things (and give them that much weight)?
Preparing for a sequel?

This book is simply hilarious. It’s great mix of a vampire tale - the usual claiming of a mate and an evil enemy included – and the humorous account of an unsuspecting human drawn into a world he could not have imagined. Said human has a very hard time taking anything or anyone seriously, which, when added to the overly-serous demeanor of his vampire mate, makes for a really fun read that had me laughing out loud several times.

Nick is a handful. Not easily impressed, with more commitment issues than should be legal, and a dry sense of humor, he ‘falls into’ the greatest adventure of his life and doesn’t even realize what is going on for the longest time. In some ways he is really naïve, but the key about him, I think, is that he just looks at the world in an entirely different and unexpected way. He tends to make people see things his way and when that doesn’t work with Damian, Nick is unsure how to deal with it. For the first time in his life Nick faces someone who is at least as stubborn as Nick is. All you need to do is sit back and enjoy the fireworks.

Damian is a fairly typical growly, macho vampire. More powerful than the others who surround him, determined to hold on to Nick no matter what, he is possessive enough for two alpha males. Protectionist tendencies aside, he also wants Nick to be happy, so he forces himself to compromise on some things that are crucial for Nick’s well being. I could hear his teeth gnash each time that happened and it made me grin.

If you’re looking for a grand battle between vampires and humans, a serious story about good versus evil, or a bloodthirsty account of an unwilling conversion, this is not your book. If you’re looking for something fun to read, and want a break from the ‘usual’ vampire books, check this one out. I think it’s worth it and look forward to the next volume in the series.

This is for the supposedly new "expanded release"
I still really like the story, But..
I didn't find much different about this new version.
When she (author) first started re-releasing All her book you could tell things were added. Not so much in the last couple of re-do's.
To label something as "This is a re-edited, expanded release."
you would think that there should be something more added at least maybe another chapter at the end.
Very disappointing.

That was just a total silly and fun read. Nick was such a smartass and how he handled the whole vampire situation and Damien was just hilarious.

Nick is a commitment phobe, but when he has what he thinks is a one-night stand with a hot guy turns out to be an encounter with a vampire, he’s drawn into a world (and emotions) he never knew.

Vampire Wanted is a re-release of Amber Kell’s 2010 novella with the same name, but this time it has been expanded and re-edited. It follows some of the typical tropes I have come to expect from an Amber Kell paranormal book: a strong protagonist who is possessive of his lover, and a mouthy love interest that tests his patience. While told from Nick’s POV, you do get to see a glimpse of Damian, the afore-mentioned vampire lover. I have to admit that I wanted more than a glimpse of Damian, and hopefully that will come in future installments.

But Nick is utterly delightful in Vampire Wanted, and his self-deprecating humor had me laughing out loud a few times. He certainly leads his vampire on a merry chase. My major niggle with the plot was a lot of time was spent setting up secondary characters and their issues, rather than exploring more of Nick and Damian’s relationship. So, again, I am hoping we will get more Nick and Damian in the next book.

Readers and vampire fans alike, who love smart, sexy, possessive vampires and their bossy human lovers will enjoy Vampire Wanted by Amber Kell.

First and foremost, I loved the main character, Nicholas. I thought his POV was really funny, and I loved his snark. His mental images and thought process had me grinning as I read. Though I'm normally not a fan of first person stories, his POV was enjoyable enough that I got past it.

The vampire, however, Damian.... I didn't like him at all. Truthfully, I saw nothing appealing about him. He was controlling and possessive, and though Nicholas put him in his place quite often, it was still very annoying to me whenever Damian was on the page -- which was a lot of course, considering he was the love interest. He was very patronizing and condescending, and if I were Nicholas, I definitely would not have stuck around.

The rest of the vampires were kind of just there, like pieces of the background. Sadly, I enjoyed them a lot more than I enjoyed Damian, though I wish I'd liked them more. They just seemed sort of flat.

The ending, as Nicholas himself even says, is very anticlimactic. I don't know what I was expecting, but I definitely wanted a lot more after everything we'd been given.

All in all, I did enjoy it though. If only Damian had been a little more tolerable, this would have gotten more stars.

Vampire Wanted by Amber Kell

Reviewed for www.heartsonfirereviews.com

Commitment-phobe Nick has a hook up with Damian and after a night of great sex, doesn't expect to ever see him again, however, Damian will not be denied. He turns out to be a vampire who believes that Nick is his mate and will do everything and anything to keep him. The story is told from Nick's point of view and is rather scattered and convoluted in plot. It is not a bad book but suffers from the typical Amber Kell MC's, one who is absolutely perfect and wanted by all and the other who is uber possessive and offers little in the way of story development other than to be jealous over anyone who looks at the other MC. This is a short, quick read that, if not taken seriously, is mildly entertaining.

I get so frustrated with short stories.. even though this one is as short as most.. this left me feeling like there could be sooooo much more to the story.. I guess it's the 'abridged' feeling.

Something I'd like to say is that I DID enjoy this story, and there was some great phrasing with in the story. I just fell like I didn't really get a good introduction to the characters. So with in the story, we don't really know who they are, what thier status is, the friendship levels..

Overall I would have gone to four stars on this but as I said, it's the 'abridged' feeling holding me back.

Damian was annoying, but Nick is awesome, I was rooting for William/Jeff and Sal/John but it didn't happened.

as usual this book suffers from the Amber complex, and that is the book feels cramped, like too much happens at the same time and not everything is well explained or treated correctly, still it was an enjoyable read.

Nick, William & Simon made the book, it was hilarious watching them.

Max was stupid to no end.

Found Nick to be an in depth type of character, funny, goes with the flow, unaware of his appeal. Damien, overbearing, arrogant, dominating vampire.

Nick's antics and reactions was the only decent thing to me. Sex scenes are more of gloss overs with no real connection. While daylight is not a factor for these vamps, the constant mind reading gets old super fast.

Then when Nick's friend has all this drama, the resolution at the end not only sucked but was also anticlimatic.

I really don't know if I should feel nauseous about the amount of clichés in this short story or incredibly entertained. I'm serious. I found so many things wrong about Nick's relationship with Damian I can't even name the worse one but it was so ridiculous I couldn't help but laugh most of the way. I'm truly torn but also amazingly good humored.

This story had such amusing and engaging characters, especially Nick. He was hilarious. I also appreciated how this story was full of surprises along with betrayal and a plot that held me mesmerized and had me chuckling out loud. Oh, and lots of intriguing vampires, which is always loads of fun. Wonderful read.

ok, this was painful.

It sounded really good and I looked forward to it but ... and this is a big BUT

the book is only 100pg long but has content for 3 books. Everytime something popped up, on the next page it was like ok, no problem. there were several crisis, misunderstandings, really not-ok things but they never dealt with this stuff.

Very frustrating

Vampire Wanted (Nick's Tale #1) by Amber Kell

Vampire Wanted

Are you smitten by the alpha with sharp teeth?

Nick has a one night stand with Damian, only to find that his new friend is rather intent on a relationship and, even more, aggressively possessive. To make things even more intense and crazy, it turns out that Damian is a vampire. How can Nick get out of this? What is more, does he even want to?

This novella is part of the traditional vampire mythos, with one extra variation (pookas) to keep things interesting. There are no dull spots in the plot, and there is one or two surprise twists. The book certainly kept me interested until the end.

Nick has emotional depth, but is also feisty: he is no wimpy push over. He also has a sense of humour to endear him to us. Nick is the kind of guy you would like to have as a friend. Damien is a charming, but dominant alpha. He none the less cares for Nick. If alphas are your type you'll like him. By emphasising Damian's dominance I don't mean to imply that this book is BDSM. Yes, the vampires would kill at the drop of a hat, but the book is not at all hard core.

There are mild sex scenes, but once again I would not really call this erotica. None the less if you are a mild, conservative type this is probably not the book for you.

Really, at its heart, Vampire Wanted is a romance, with a bit of intrigue thrown in. Will Nick stick with Damien? Will he not? How will Nick's friends cope with the fact that vampires are real? I like both vampires and romance, so I liked this book. I am happy to award it 4 stars.

I would have liked if the story was a little more developed. I enjoyed it the same and had a good time reading this story. Nick is a handfull and is accepting the changes quite well. Waiting for the rest of the series. 🤗

It's not very often I get to read a comedy with vampires, and this one was delightful... for the most part.

Nick was hilarious as the narrator, and I loved how much he didn't care that all of the vampires could read his thoughts. I loved how often we'd read him think something and then he'd say it, or he'd think something and the vampire would answer him and he wouldn't realize he'd never spoken out loud. It was refreshing to have a MC with so little to hide that he didn't care if his thoughts were private or not.

Damian cracked me up, also. I loved how all of the vampire stereotypes here were placed in scenarios that just made their inherent silliness obvious.

I hated the ending. It just showcased exactly how self-involved Nick is that, as the narrator, he's comfortable choosing to end the book there.

Okay, so the thing that gets this 4 stars in spite of how much I hated the ending was the bit about Nick having kids. I am apparently in the minority here, since there seems to be an increasing number of books like this out there, but I dislike reading about babies in my romance or erotica books. Sincerely dislike. Perhaps because if the babies are planned for, it seems like it's for the dumbest or most selfish of reasons. And if they're not planned for, then the parents get around to being okay with it for the dumbest or most selfish of reasons.

I'm hoping Nick's decision-making here was intentionally satirical, because that's how I'm choosing to read it. And since I chose to read it that way, it cracked me up! I know this book predates Lover Reborn, but Nick's decision mocks Qhuinn's so beautifully that I have to love it. I was laughing so hard! Mostly because while those reasons were (hopefully) intentionally exaggerated to emphasize the satire, they're not that different from the reasons given in earnest in other books.

Overall, an enjoyable read with an entertaining narrator and lots of fun vampire satire. I may re-read parts of this when I know I need a laugh.

2012 Review:

Another zany tale, this time with snarky first person perspective.
This author really is more about the plot than about romance or sex. Hell, the hero’s counterpart is hardly even tangible as a person. I suppose I buy the love bit at the end, but I still don’t have any idea of who Damien is except that he is madly possessive.

That said, I am not complaining. Because I had lots of fun.

Oddly enough, I got a Mary Calmes vibe with this book. Except for the lack of depth and seriousness and, thank god, pain. But first-person Nick was a commitment-phobe, beloved by everyone, with all sorts of ludicrously idealized qualities (except for his abrasive personality), to the point where even the enemy’s reason for wanting to do away with him had to be insane jealousy instead of dislike. This so reminded me of Timing, or even the A Matter of Time books to some extent.
How odd.

Still, this has levels of wacky that are very much Amber Kell’s style. <3

2014 Re-read:

Um, hum. One page Damian says he was not converted but born a vampire, the next page he talks with his father about how he (Damian) recovered so very fast from being converted. … What?

Anyway, I am getting used to romance-less romances. This one definitely falls into that category. It does help that I knew this already, having read this book before.
Either way, it was amusing. Pretty much a barrage of one-liner fun. So what if Damian remains an utterly secondary character and if everyone’s wonderfully insane? XD

I think, what I love the most from several of Amber Kell's stories that I have read is that character, well the not-Alpha one, is always amusing. Those men might have a very possessive mate, but they can always keep their mate on their toes.

In this story, for example, Nick is able to keep Damian in check, even if that vampire of his is totally possessive -- and well, at time, I think it's TOO possessive, it can annoying. Nick's thoughts and dialogs are so funny, he should've been working as a stage comedian instead of a junior architect *g*. That is mainly the enjoyable part of this story.

The rest of the plot is rather scattered, though, many things that just "pop" out, like Ms. Kell just throws it there as part of the mixture (I mean, Nick turns out to be a descendant of some sort of fae/witch line?? or that his best friend's husband, Max, suddenly turned into a vampire -- it's just too random, I think).

I don't know how to feel about this story. On one hand I like it a lot, on the other there is an overwhelming amount of possessiveness, something I usually like, and an unnecessary abundance of cute pet names and endearments, something I can only take so much of before it becomes overdone in my opinion. I alternated between wanting to give it 4stars, for enjoying parts so much, and then 2stars, for all of the issues I had with it, namely the editing error concerning Lila's name suddenly and - thankfully - momentarily becoming Lily before switching back (even an editor with rudimentary skills could easily catch this error, so the fact that it was left unfixed irks me to no end).

Mandy suggests not taking this story seriously while reading, and I think her method is the best approach since to look at it from any other angle would make it deserving of less stars.

I had the most fun reading this book. Not just because it was a vampire book, but because it was hilarious! The main character, Nick, along with his cat, Simon, kept me laughing throughout the entire book.

It's a very enjoyable quick read.
