A fantastic book, I loved it. when I first finished it (I read it in one day)I was a little disappointed because it didn't resolve anything when the book concluded but after some time I was pleased that she had left you hanging cause then we were able to make up our own ending which I found rather good because most books give you a conclusion that sometimes you don't prefer and you had a great ending that didn't really turn out happening and then you don't enjoy the book as much as you would have wanted to.

A well written and heart-wrenching examination of an all too common occurrence - a family member who goes missing.
This was a realistic story from the point of view of the younger sister, and the inevitable ripple effects on the family and the community. It included a wide variety of possibilities, and although I was hoping for an answer at the end of the book, there were no answers. This is commonly the case for a missing person, so once again, a very realistic ending.
Although classified as teenage fiction, the book is a must for all ages.

Whilst I enjoyed this book and I know Jackie French target audience is 10-12 year olds, I felt this book was probably a bit intense for that age group so would suggest for an older demographic. I think it captured beautifully the essence of how families/friends of the missing feel.

A sad little story about a young teenager trying to cope with the sudden disappearance of her older sister. She has feelings of denial, sadness, guilt, anger and confusion, and like so many families who have missing members, there is no conclusion and no happy ending.

This is the story of Maureen’s disappearance through the eyes of her younger sister, Sara.

I usually find French’s stories absorbing in their detail and characters, but I found this lacked those elements.

The story is well told in terms of the different angles being explored. We can see how others react (the police, the neighbours, friends, teachers, the family of the person accused of being involved), as well as the ripple effects a disappearance has, and the way it impacts deeply on those directly affected.

It looks at the search for Maureen and the search for meaning in the event, as well as how those affected try to regain meaning in their own lives.

I got to page 11 when I DNF'd this. It's been sitting on my shelf for about TWENTY YEARS and now I see why.

"No one saw her. Or, rather, lots of people must have seen her, but no one remembered that they had, if you know what I mean."
The entire book is written like this. The setting details were choppy and could have been written much better.

My mum got me this book from the library for some unknown reason and from first look at it I thought it would be the most boring book i've ever attempted to read, but I guess it's okay. The chapters are nice and short which makes the book easier to read and it's sort of a mystery book, which keeps you a tad interested.
I think the thing is that it's for more of a younger age group, while i'm more into adult novels.

Even though the book didn't have the level of excitement as a fantasy book would, I found that I loved every part of the story and how it was written. Would definetly read it again!
