This book deals with anxiety and how to overcome it. But it also explains methods how to expand one's mind to more possibilities in life. There are included practical exercises and a link to downloadable audio tracks which are to be listened to together with this book. I think this book is very useful and worth reading. I will return to it also in the future.

I'm familiar with Paul McKenna and his work as a hypnotist/hypnotherapist, so was grateful when I got this book as a present.

As someone who gets anxious about a lot of things, I found it useful that not only did the book have a lot of good information about how the author deals with any struggles he might have, it also offered a useful insight into our own psyches.

The book is divided into three sections: It starts off with a section about how to avoid anxiety; the second part is about how to improve calmness and resilience, and the third is about how to improve your self in the future.

The book also contains a lot of mindfulness techniques and meditations, with accompanying tracks that can be downloaded, and which I need to go back and try again. I tried all of them, and they seemed to work. So, even if you don't believe in hypnosis, this is worth a go.

In a moment of good intention, I picked up this book from the library. I renewed it twice before I forced myself to read it. It's only a brief book, and it's easy to read, but to properly benefit you need to make quiet time, alone, to do the exercises. So it takes a bit of effort. No wonder I spent time instead beating myself up and reliving traumatic experiences. It's easier to blame yourself than actually put the effort into solving your problems, but I found some of the stuff in this book both simple, intuitive and insightful.

The book is broken into three sections, and accompanied by audio downloads. The first section is what I would call 'first aid' - exercises to relieve stress in the moment. All involve an element of visualisation, but some also involve physical actions. I tried all of them, with varying results. Some, such as 'The Spinning Technique', I found to be particularly helpful for me. I think you need to try them and experiment with what works best for you.

The second section is more about resetting memories or traumas and visualising success. I found this to be extremely powerful, especially techniques for making bad memories less painful, like 'Step out of the Bad Times'. There is some great logic to the techniques in this book, such as:

The good news is, because the human nervous system doesn't recognise the difference between a real and a vividly imagined experience, we are going to visualise feeling good, optimistic, successful and joyous and the effect will be the same as if it has actually happened for real.

We've all experienced this - just act happy and you feel happier! Meanwhile, act sad or be around sad people and it makes you feel sad too. There's a thing fans do in football matches - someone yells 'let's pretend we scored a goal' and everyone goes nuts and feels great for a moment. It's that simple in concept.

Finally, section three is the hypnosis section. I had a go at this too, with less success, although I did find it relaxing, which is no bad thing. I liked the concept of 'Hindsight Ahead of Time' where you imagine looking back on your successful life.

Overall, I was surprised by how helpful I found this book, and even found some of the techniques assisted me before and after difficult conversations. Although I need to return it to the library, I still have the audio downloads for future reference.

I got this book a fortnight before my first marathon, when my anxiety was at its highest. The techniques and accompanying audio files were a great help to me, and it made me so much calmer leading up to the race, making for a much better experience on the day. I will continue to follow these techniques and listen to the audio files going forward.

Actually more helpful than I had initially expected. I've read so many books that are supposed to help with anxiety and panic and most repeat the same stuff, but this one gave me some practical tools to feel calmer in general and that in itself is a great help.

Nicely written. But all too easy to get in through without some takehome message or practice. More depth on fewer areas might be better.

Ok, but I don’t think it’s worth it if you want hypnotherapy, go get professional help instead.

Easy audio listen
Love his work and even his voice is hypnotic. Great reminders and pointers on NLP and how the world has changed as well. Interesting references to Covid as well

I listened to this as an audiobook and curiously found it excellent to run to especially the visualisations. Would recommend to anyone feeling anxious and in need to quick help
