The Perfect Miss Vescinda Bancroft was a sheltered young lady who had been brought up to prize her virtue above all-and trained to defeat the designs of the men whom her extraordinary beauty was bound to attract. The Earl of Sherworth was the most notorious young blade on London-a devastatingly handsome rake whose fondness of women of easy virtue and disdain for all decent if dull prospective brides made him a social scandal.

A long and twisted road to a suitable match. When Lord Sherworth's stepmother asked him to travel to a country estate to dissuade her granddaughter Vescinda from an unsuitable match, little did he know that his stepmother was playing a matchmaker between him and Vescinda. At first glance the matchmaking seems to be a fool's errand. A rakish and cynical earl sworn to bachelorhood (but hardly a celibacy) was definitely not a good match for a beautiful and sheltered Vescinda who had been brought up to prize her virtue above all and whose conduct was beyond reproach. But, of cause, grandmother knows best, although it takes the protagonists a while to realize it! And meanwhile, the readers are treated to a witty banter, amusing dialog and laugh out loud moments. The characters were very likable. I especially liked the heroine who was so refreshingly mature, smart and had a great sense of humor. But all of these wonderful things were spoiled for me by a succession of misunderstandings and mistrusts. It became just too much. Oh, why, why the authors do this?
2.75 stars I ultimately ended up enjoying the romance in this story, I just didn't like the entire journey to get there. And I wasn't a fan of the writing style.
oh the humor! this old timer is brilliant in witty repartee. Vecinda proves herself time and again. the hero is sort of a jerk but I won't cast stones.
