Ra's Chosen #2

Mate Hunger

Rate this book
Book two in the Ra’s Chosen series.Set is a warrior chosen by the sun god Ra to protect mortals from the undead who hunt them. That is what he knows. Unfortunately, having watched his leader, a fellow warrior, succumb to a destined mate, Set also knows he will someday suffer the same fate. Set doesn’t need nor want a mate. He’s just fine on his own, thank you very much. But when a spitfire of a woman is thrust into his life, whose sole mission seems to be to knee him in the groin and escape every chance she gets, he’s intrigued. A lot.Desiree may have lusted after Set from afar for months, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to go willingly with the behemoth of a man spouting a whole bunch of garbage about immortality, an ancient Egyptian god and her destiny as his mate. No doubt he’s two bricks short of a load. But when they touch, passion like she’s never known consumes her. Perhaps he’s not so crazy after all…

I greatly enjoyed Marisa Chenery obvious knowledge of ancient Egypt and as a history lover, those are the passages which were my favorite. In general I found the writing concise with reasonable pace and plot, though I found the dialogues sometimes stilted, especially the interaction between to the two main characters.

Other than that, the only problem I did have was the fact the female character was written not once, but twice as kneeing the warrior in the groin. As a trained warrior, and supposedly one of the best, this would be very, very improbable. One of the first thing any soldier, modern or ancient, is taught is how to avoid a knee to the groin. You learn to watch the motions and dodge, because a hard enough knee to the groin cannot only incapacitate you, it can kill you. This avoid technique is strongly taught also because unlike a knife to the flank or shoulder, one to the groin is fatal within minutes. Many women are not aware of this fact. And just for me personally, if I've had to sidestep to keep a woman from kneeing me it's highly unlikely I'm going to look favourably on her after that no matter how "hot" she is.

I definitely DID NOT like the story, at all! The start wasn’t that bad. Well...the characters..um..( K, I forgot their names though i read it yesterday, anyways) are stupid!!

This guy locks up his mate-for-life in his place so that he can keep her safe and naturally she fights.
BUT- she decides to stay locked up in his place, once she escapes and finds some vampires in a street sucking blood. Like a hero, he protects her and she stays with him!!

WOW!! SO PATHETIC!!

I hated the heroine. She’s so weak and dependent!!

Más de la mitad del libro trató sobre cómo Desiree quería escapar, su cambio de opinión fue super abrupto y el final igual.

He knows she’s his destined mate, chosen by the sun god Ra himself. She thinks he’s a lunatic. Can Set convince her how much he needs her?

How many blows to the groin can a man endure before giving up the chase? Unfortunately for Set, it’s not just a matter of wanting what he can’t have; he actually needs Desiree’s blood to live. But that’s something she’s not willing to give. Not without a fight, anyhow. Despite her attraction, Desire refuses to believe all this "chosen warrior" and "undead" nonsense. Set is gorgeous, no doubt, but as far as she’s concerned, he’s crazy.

Set likes a challenge, but his patience wears thin. He can only give Desiree so much time and space before his blood hunger begins eating him from the inside out, literally. Of course, kidnapping her and locking her in his room isn’t likely to change her mind. She just wants to return to her normal life, even if it is boring and without love. Sometimes though, things aren’t always what they seem and the things that go bump in the night are real. It’s gonna take a lot of convincing on Set’s part to prove himself, and an equally amount of trust on Desiree’s to open her eyes to the reality of her situation and the devotion and security she’ll discover with her gorgeous Egyptian warrior.

Once again, Ms. Chenery has penned an exciting tale of Ra’s Chosen. In Mate Hunger, the characters are equally as enthralling as they were in book one. You can’t help but feel for Set as he struggles to convince Desiree of her importance in his life. But you’ll also find yourself connecting with Desiree’s feelings of defiance. After all, she’s been taken and held against her will. Of course, maybe some of us wouldn’t mind being her situation. You have a gorgeous man who wants to make his own for all eternity, could be worse. I loved the story and can’t wait to dive into book three of Ra’s Chosen.

If book one was enough to whet your whistle, then you better go ahead and get book two, Mate Hunger. Of course, if you’re new to Ms. Chenery’s Ra’s Chosen series, don’t fret, you can easily pick up with this one and not miss a thing. I must warn you though, her warriors are addicting and you’ll likely find yourself wanting them all for your own.

Although I had not read the first book in Marisa Chenery’s “Ra’s Chosen” series, it was not difficult to understand the unique words and phrases used to describe certain activities by the warriors because explanations were smoothly inserted. Easing into the tale was simple and I had high hopes after reading the first dozen or so pages.

I love fantasy and the story of the Chosen of Ra protecting mortals from the undead was an exciting premise, and the details and explanations of how they came into existence I particularly enjoyed. Interweaving a modern urban setting with the legends and myths of the ancient Egyptian gods kept me going because the author’s knowledge was presented to me in an understandable and thoughtful way.

I very much liked Marisa Chenery’s vivid imagery and descriptions of Egyptian beliefs. They were very professionally done and presented with a classic feel I greatly appreciated. I felt it was a great story and plot, but I would have liked it without the level of profanity used but I realize people have different ways of speaking and expression. It took a while for the pace of the prose to build up speed before I was fully introduced to the conflict which raised the intensity of the plot and drove the story forward at a more satisfying clip. I was relieved to have something to fasten my “teeth” into and really get into the action.

The emotional relationship between Set and Desireé, the main characters, showed obvious attraction so I wanted to learn about their feelings towards each other besides their sexual interludes. The end results of their “rocky road to romance” was expected and I felt the author could be satisfied they brought the full circle of their attraction to a close while still leaving an opening for a new character’s story to be begin in the next installment.

This is the second book in the Ra's Chosen series. In this one, the chosen warriors know that they are destined for a mate in their eternal life and finding her could become a rather trying and painful experience especially since they have to seal the connection before their bodies destroy themselves and tell these unsuspecting women what they really are. Not exactly an easy time for the men.

In this book, Set knows its coming and decides to be prepared. As it did the first warrior, he finds it rather difficult to convince the woman he falls in love with that his intentions are purely selfish yet good. It actually becomes funny reading how the woman tries to escape and practically makes him pull his hair out.

This is a really great plot and story line but I do feel like the author misses her chance to really get deeper with the characters. Just as she seems to be, the scene becomes very sexual. I felt kind of cheated from getting to know the characters better.

If you are uncomfortable with graphic physical scenes, this is not a book for you. There are many comments as well as scenes throughout the entire book.

Note: This book was purchased with the author's own funds.

Marisa Chenery "Mate Hunger"

Marisa Chenery's “Mate Hunger” sizzles with passion and electrifying sex! Your blood will be fire once you read this book. You will be wishing that you had your own warrior to worship and lust over as Desiree does.

I enjoyed reading this book, but wished that it did not end so soon. I love how Marisa tells the love story between Desiree and Set. If you are a sucker for romances like I am, I guarantee you will enjoy this book. The ending to this book will have you wanting to read sequel to “Mate Hunger”. I'm already anticipating the next release.!

Mate Hunger is the second book of the Ra's Chosen Series. It tells the story of Set and how he meets his mate Desiree when she witnesses him take out one of the undead (enemies to Ra's Chosen). This story is very similar to Mehens story (Soul Hunger). He eventually cannot erase her memeory so he has to take her to their headquarters to see if the rest are able to wipe her memory. She is at first reluctant to stay there with Set but with his charm, rocking body and promises of hot sweaty sex they end up in bed and in each others hearts. The good thing about this story is that its not as long as the first book but equally great.

Well, this one I felt that Desiree, didn't bond with any warrior, and even with Blythe.
It was like, Okay ,Set needs a mate and she will not bond with the others, and let's just get it over with, shall we?
I mean... I was so excited about this story, but then My expectations about this book were high, and they were crushed.
Like a dear friend of mine says It's better to not have expectations, than to have them, them they will be destroyd.
So I know i'm beaing a little bit dramatic, but she was, and still is right!
Hope the other one is a lot better than this one.

Ahh.
I love the author and I've been reading a few of her books lately and I haven't been disappointed until now. Not that it wasn't good, but It just didn't draw me in like her other books. The whole way through Desiree was just trying to escape, having minimal concern for Set. I just didn't feel the love between them, wasn't feeling this one. Regardless of my dislike of this book I will pick up the third one anyhow. Not quite ready to call the series quits.

I did not like this book.

The heroine was soo annoying here I thought she was going to be awesome but no. They whole book was around her trying to run away. I mean she had all the fact about the hero and she still wouldn't listen. She finally decided to like the hero but of course she had to almost die. Ugh I literally rolled my eyes reading this book. I ended up returning it for a refund because I didn't want to own a book I did not like.

A lot of unnecessary repetition in this one. The books should be independent of each other so I understand the author's reason for including parts from Book 1 however, repeating that the warriors are six and a half feet over and over is redundant.

No. N-O. N to the O. Short and simple - NO. This me-tarzan, you-jane piece of nonsense was annoying beyond belief. Mindless, poorly written, annoying drivel not even suitable for burning because, let's face the truth here, only real books get burned. Waste your time elsewhere, this isn't worth it.

The answer is the same at the end.

Just about the same story as the first novel, just shorter. These really should be classified as novellas, and priced about 99 cents. Still a good read, just short.

I will tell you that the stories after the first one are not as long as the first one but still so enjoyable that you won't want to put it down now on to the next story in the line
