Charlie Parker #11

Gossip Can Be Murder

Rate this book
Charlie is invited to a plush Santa Fe spa, a week-long spiritual/nutrition retreat with her friend Dr. Linda Casper. The massages and spa treatments sound great, until she realizes that there is something darker going on at the mountain resort. Meanwhile, Drake has his own set of concerns. He's been asked to testify as an expert witness in a helicopter crash case and it's causing him more anxiety than any feat of flying ever did. It seems that they are each on their own but their two cases overlap and dangers abound, from all sides.

My love of books started with weekly trips to the library as a child and from the moment I learned to read I can't remember a time that I didn't have at least one book going. For the past 25 years, that list has grown to include what I'm reading and what I'm writing at any given time.

I began writing my Charlie Parker series when my husband and I lived on Kauai, then continued them in my home state of New Mexico. Charlie lives in Albuquerque and manages to travel to a variety of locations, wherever her investigation business and her husband's helicopter business take them. My second series featuring Samantha Sweet, the 50-ish woman who breaks into houses for a living, is set in Taos, New Mexico.

In addition to reading and writing, I've traveled quite a lot, taught writing courses, and been a speaker at a whole lot of mystery conventions and writing conferences. In my spare time I also love to paint, draw, cook and spend time at the beach.

got the audio version, it is a different reader and no longer have that simple sounding where one can hear the breathing of the reader and page turning.

Also, this one has more Drake's pov then Charlie's pov. Very different.

Charlie can't help herself, she has to investigate when things just don't add up. Also, how the case Drake is involved in somehow links right to Charlie's investigation.

Not my favorite book in the series. Didn’t like the pompous people at the spa or Drake chapters but still enjoyed the book.

Gossip Can Be Murder by Connie Shelton:
Once again, Charlie Parker is minding her own business, when danger flies too close and almost singes her wings.
While her husband, Drake, hoping to clear the dead pilot in a recent plane crash, Charley accepts an invitation from her her friend and medical doctor, Linda Casper, to attend a week at a swanky spa in Santa Fe where they will enjoy the spa and lectures on Eastern medicine. But Charley correctly judges the local guru running the program Dr. Celeus Light, for a charlatan.
Naturally, it gets really interesting when spa’s Yoga instructor turns up dead, but not even Charley could predict that this murder is connected to Drake’s investigation.
I was charmed by the location of New Mexico, Santa Fe and the wonderful characters, but I was also impressed with the very smart plot that weaves what appears to be wildly divergent stories together into a very satisfying end.
