The Sisterhood Believes In Promises KeptWith yet another successful assignment behind them, the ladies of the Sisterhood have enjoyed a relaxing break together and celebrated the wedding of Myra and Charles on Big Pine Mountain. But as soon as the newlyweds return from their shortened honeymoon, they are hit with some exciting yet unsettling news. . .It seems their dear ally Lizzie Fox, recently ensconced as Chief White House Counsel, is rumored to be near the top of the short list for a soon to be vacated seat on the Supreme Court. While the Sisters are thrilled for Lizzie, they are concerned about her being ripped to shreds in the approval process, partly due to her connections with the Sisterhood. They also fear it will delay or even derail their long-awaited pardon promised to them by President Martine Connor. It will take a masterful plan, and loyal friends aiding them at every turn, for the Sisters to succeed in protecting Lizzie while securing their own freedom at last.Praise for Fern Michaels and her Sisterhood novels. . ."Revenge is a dish best served with cloth napkins and floral centerpieces. . .fast-paced. . .puts poetic justice first."--Publishers Weekly on Payback"Delectable. . .deliver[s] revenge that's creatively swift and sweet, Michaels-style."--Publishers Weekly on Hokus Pokus

Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.

As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.

Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.

Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it.
I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.

Somebody needs to tell Ferm Michaels enough all ready!!! I am over amazed that this is the 17th in a series that pits a handful of vigilante women against men who done them wrong. Fern's writing is stilted and forced-and the characters are -there's no other word for it-bitchy. Why did I read it? Have you every had a good friend who guaranteed you that, if you just give this book a chance 'I promise it will be better than the first one you read?" Well, it wasn't. AND THERE'S ANOTHER ONE COMING OUT!!! ONG!!!

I claime Sisterhood binge reading as the reason behind why it took me sooo long to finish and only gave a 3 stars. I read the previous 16 books back to back so when I got to this one I honestly couldn't take anymore. Not to say its a bad book just that too many back to back books with basically the same plot and drama happinging found my breaking point. I might reread this later..way later but for now I put it to rest.

As for the review portion....Most of it has been reviewed before the books been out for four years so if you want indepth..you're not going to find hit here.
But I will say this the Sisterhood takes on the White house and we have some surprise engagements and another happy surprise.

I've been reading this on and off for too long to remember any good deets and I didn't take any notes so sorry but it is what it is.

I would recommend for Sisterhood fans but other might want to tackle previous novels first because you will get lost in trying to figure out who is who and what is going on and why.

Game over should be the review .. I have another 2 or 3 downloaded on my ipod or it would be Game over for this series. what started as a justice and revenge series ... now they are just annoying terrorists. I am very annoyed by them always saying they can do anything because they are woman. blah blah blah. I think they have ran that into the ground ... and their infinite supply of money is really unlikely. bottomline is this series stopped being good a long time ago and looking forward to getting the last few off my ipod.

Seventeenth in the Sisterhood vengeance-suspense series revolving around a group of seven women eager to find justice for those the legal system abandons.

My Take
Michaels takes on the value of keeping one's promises. President Martine Connor has been very slack in this respect and plans a betrayal against her best friend.

You'd think that a couple who has been sleeping together and, according to earlier installments, having a good time, would have already figured out how the other likes to sleep and if they enjoy sex together. But, then, writing it this way is more true to Michaels' form. Inconsistency thy name is Fern Michaels. Jesus, she's a crappy writer.

Michaels does pay a nice tribute to pole dancers as to their physical fitness.

Why would the president of the United States call the husband of a possible appointee---at 5:30 in the morning---to tell him she has a short list in case a vacancy crops up on the Supreme Court? And how convenient that she calls just after the supposedly retiring Justice calls Cosmo.

Another part of my problem with Michaels' writing is it doesn't sound real. It's one of the things I really enjoyed about J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood is the camaraderie between the brothers and the reality of their verbal exchanges setting the slang aspect of it aside. Michaels will start real such as when Harry is laughing at Jack's duckie jammies but then she continues the conversation with:
" 'You have a problem with yellow ducks, Harry? My aunt gave me these pajamas. They're high-grade flannel and very comfortable, not to mention warm. What kind of nephew would I be if I didn't wear them?' "

Please, what guy do you know who would actually talk like this?? Then there's all the "goody's" and "oh, my's" from the ladies. Gimme a break. Where does Michaels pick this up?? They sound like really little kids trying to be grownups. Although, to be fair, this is consistent with the immaturity displayed by most of the characters.

Michaels raises a nice bit of tension with which side Jellicoe will come down on---nicely stretched. Nor does she resolve the tension between Jellicoe and Connor. I'm guessing she's saving it for the next book. 'Cause, god forbid, she should actually end this series.

Connor has a lot of nerve questioning why Lizzie didn't tell her she knew Jellicoe. Considering how she's intending to betray her.

So explain to me just why it is that half way through this series, Michaels decided to split it into Rules of the Game for five books? Wouldn't a better point have been when the sisters got their pardons have been a more practical place to split it? Stupid me...I keep forgetting that Michaels is the master of inconsistency.

The Story
It's about time that Myra Rutledge and Charles Martin got married. It's too bad that they're so bored in bed with each other that they come home from the honeymoon five days early.

The action really takes off when Cosmo Cricket calls on the boys for advice. His excuse is what to do with this mansion of a house he's purchased in D.C. as a surprise for Lizzie but he really wants to know if the not-yet-released invitation for Lizzie Fox to become the next appointee to the Supreme Court is a trap or not.

There's a great deal of back and forth over whether they should tell Lizzie or not. Tell the mountain or not. Is it a trap or not. Again, tell Lizzie or not. Charles and Maggie both sent their spiders out to investigate Justice Leonard and his wife's health---his excuse for quitting the Court. One of Charles' sources is Hank Jellicoe. The security guru with an open door invitation at the White House who is able to confirm the pardons are ready to go. Unbeknownst to Jellicoe, another White House source confirms it and the ladies are a go to infiltrate the White House.

Another major change is about to happen. Those team members who have been still in the public eye could well have problems once the ladies do get their pardons. They may need to disappear...

The Characters
The Sisterhood is composed of women who mete out justice to those who believe themselves outside the law and the team they've picked up along the way: Myra and Charles Martin---they got married in Deadly Deals and Charles is a former MI6 operative; Annie de Silva is a widowed billionaire Spanish countess; Yoko Akio, the florist, is engaged to Harry Wong the martial arts expert; Alexis Thorne, a broker, hooked up with Joe Espinosa, a Post reporter; Isabelle Flanders is an architect and interested in Stu Franklin; Kathryn Lucas is a long-haul trucker who hooked up with Bert Navarro, the current Director of the FBI; and Nikki is engaged to Jack Emery the Assistant District Attorney in D.C. Lizzie Fox, the "Silver Fox", is a formidable lawyer who wins cases simply by walking into the courtroom who married Cosmo Cricket, the Nevada Gaming Commission's lawyer. Maggie Spritzer became the Editor in Chief of the Washington Post when Annie bought the paper and Ted Robinson is one of her reporters; both came over to the Sisterhood's side. They also get engaged in this installment.

Abner Tookus is a computer whiz and a very good friend of Maggie's who can always find the goods. Henry "Hank" Jellicoe is the former head of security for Myra's candy company; now he runs an international security firm that is the best of the best and worth billions. Seems he's also carrying on an affair with the president.

Justice Douglas Leonard plays a nasty trick on an old friend; his wife is Florence with her own itchy problem. Pearl Barnes and Cornelia "Nellie" Easter Cummings play a cameo role. Michaels is setting us up for Annie and Fish. President Martine Connor is in office only through the aid of the Sisterhood. The deal was pardons for the ladies and Connor has been putting it off.

Semi-regulars not making an appearance---cameo or otherwise—include Rena Gold and Paula Woodley; technically Elias Cummings shows up but only when Nellie mentions his having the flu.

The Cover
Oh yeah, the cover is consistent. It's pretty with absolutely no relationship to the contents. It's a lovely fall day as we peek over the scalloped white picket fence and past the privet hedge topped with fallen red and yellow maple leaves at a white clapboard two-story colonial. You can just feel the last bits of sun before winter. Meanwhile the story takes place in January and February with lots of snow.

The title is accurate enough, as the Game Over sign flashes when Paul Revere picks up those pesky pardons. Too bad it's not true about the series.

On New Year's Day, the girls finally celebrated the marriage of Myra and Charles and sent them off on their honeymoon. They were surprised when the couple cut short their honeymoon to come home early. However, they were finally married.
Lizzi Fox had become the White House Counsel for her friend Martine Connor. She was doing this pro bono for six months to help ensure Martine kept her promise to pardon the Sisterhood. Martine had been putting off doing this on the advice of her advisors; however, the Sisterhood was beginning to think she wasn't going to pardon them even though they had helped her. The Sisterhood heard a rumor that Lizzi was on the top of the list to replace a retiring Justice who was retiring due to his wife's illness. This rumor didn't sit well with Maggie . She looked into the health of the Justice and his wife. What she found made her angry and made the Sisterhood determined to storm the White House and get their pardons!

Sisterhood ally Lizzie Fox is on a 6-month pro-bono assignment as main counsel for the President of the United States. When information is leaked that she might be on the short-list for the Supreme Court, the reactions of Lizzie and the sisterhood vary. A few members take the news at face value, while others think something stinks. All are concerned it means the President is trying to get out of issuing those promised pardons. So, time's up, Madam President, the sisterhood is coming for their pardons. At the same time, the sisterhood has to ensure Lizzie is protected and doesn't become a victim of anyone's nefarious plans to try and entrap the sisterhood.

The entire series is implausible, but it's now ridiculous. With each passing book I read in this series, my eye rolls are becoming more frequent. I'm super close to calling it on this series.

Life is Changing Fast
This book is the 17th book in a series revolving around a group of female vigilantes and the men who support them. In this episode, massive changes come to the lives of all of those involved with the sisters. There is plenty of action as the girls try to achieve all their goals. This is a clean story with no foul language, no gore, little violence, and no bedroom scenes. This episode also has plenty of humor. I have enjoyed reading the series and will miss it when I finish.

perfect book series

This book ends the first half of the series that is written so far. I have enjoyed them all. A few not as much as the others but those stories needed to be told to advance the story. Well written with unforgettable characters that are easy to get attached to. Recommend

This is a fun series to read as the Sisterhood helps each one of the Sisters and a few others along the way.
---------------------
**Must read the series in order.**
Love, Love this series. Highly recommend to those that enjoy: Fast reads, Some romance, crime-suspense, mystery suspense, chic lit n romance n drama, humor, action packed suspense romance, mf. Started reading Fern Michaels in 2018.
(As I write this review I'm up to book 26. March 1st 2019. & will start book 27 next week)

Must begin with book and read them in order to understand all of the people that come into the Sisterhood and when the men start coming into it. Love the changes of the Post and how everyone works together around the table. Nothing gets discussed at the dinner table but only in the war room.

Romances develop, marriages happen, punishment/revenge happens to someone who wronged someone else whether it is someone within the Sisterhood or a random person. The sisters all work together to get through the tough times and the happy times. So many twists and turns. Love, Love reading this series. I take time off after I read a couple books and read my other genres and come back to read this series.

I picked this book from my book shelve and just starting reading it. Had no hopes for a good read, just wanted to finish it and give away to clear out some books from my loaded down shelves. I had paid 50 cents for it at my local Goodwill. I never read Fern Michaels. I actually thought she was a romance only author. Romances are not my choice for a good read. I had no reason to even own this book.

But read it I did and there was good and bad about it. The book was hard to get into in the first couple of chapters, The were many characters and this was number 17 in the series. There was no character develop and I was walking blind into the story! It did smooth out and was a most enjoyable read. It was short and moved fast.

Checked the books on my to read list and discovered #15 and one other. Guess they were Goodwill acquisitions also. Last night made a run to half price books and picked up half a down from the series. Also purchased #1 for my Kindle so I can move on reading the series. From now on, they will be read in order.

I started reading the Sisterhood Series in '08. This is book #17. I read the first 8 or 9 of them, then missed books 10-14. While I am curious as to where she goes with the storyline after this book, she has lost something of the spirit that drew me to the series in the first place. I am not sure I will continue to read the series after the next book, and I will only read that out of sheer curiousity.

She has added so many characters that she's constantly reminding readers of who the characters are and how each came into being. I had absolutely no problems catching up on who's who. This is taking away from the storyline of the current book. Im willing to guess that if she only mentioned the history of each character once, the book would go from being 310 pages to about 250-260.

Overall, I love Fern Michaels books.

I have read most of the Sisterhood books up through this one and always was rooting for the girls to receive a pardon, but now that they've attained their goal, it almost seems anticlimatic on retrospect. I'm hoping that when I read the next book in the series that the sisters are all reunited and back into obtaining justice in their own way. It will be interesting to see the relationships develop, the pregnancies, and the friendships. Should be interesting. The roles of Charles and Myra has been different than any episode. The pardons have played an interesting role in this series. They are miserable as they don't feel needed, including her dear friend. We got a preview of the next book, and we will see what Fern has in mind for this episode. I kind of feel that it is about to come to an end.

I don't give away spoilers in my reviews.
I am having so much fun reading Fern Michaels' Sisterhood series. I love the characters, the Men of the Sisterhood, the settings, the humor and the creativity of each book. I haven't read the series in order and each book has been ok to read as a standalone. I think this is the 6th or 7th book I've read in the series.
This time, in Game Over, the Sisters are trying to secure their promised pardons from the President. Something seems off and they are right to think so!
I loved the humor and romance that was very prominent with many couples in this book. I especially loved Harry Wong and Yoko.
The Sisters work on finding a way to secure those pardons as well as the changes that will come with those pardons.
Another great book in a wonderful series.

I was pleasantly surprised. I had grown tired of the Sisterhood Series, and more or less was forcing myself to continue reading each new one when it came out. With the last several books I had been disappointed, feeling as though Fern was beating a dead horse - they were all starting to sound the same to me - nothing really new. I felt that she had worn out her welcome with this series - I was like "end it already!" I felt it was just going to go and on forever - and that with each book she was teasing us - making us think there was a chance that it was the last one. But, I think she has finally redeemed herself - well done! (of course she has once again left the door open for herself at the very end of this novel......Follow the lead of Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romano and now Simon Cowell)

I have been disappointed in the last few books in this series. I keep reading because I have invested so much time to the books that I am hoping they get back to the writing that originally got me hooked. What I like about this series is that it introduces topics of injustice and the Sisterhood goes about finding a solution. What I dislike is that there is so much time spent on the backstory and when it gets to the point in the book that justice is finally happening it feels as though it is summarized, very few details. I am looking forward to reading what happens now that they have their pardons.

I have read all 17 in the series so far and I'm getting fed up - in this last book I came to the conclusion that I really didn't like Maggie, she is a bully and plain nasty.
Another thing that niggles at me is if these woman are all on the run with just about every agency you can think of after them - why has their bank accounts not been frozen and their assets seized - standard practice really, but no Annie is even able to buy a high profile business, these two things really niggled at me.
I am going to start the 18th book now - mainly because I need an audio book to listen to in the car but I am not looking forward to it to be honest.

Game over was a very interesting story. It is about 6 women who find themselves in trouble with the law. So they met and form the group the vigilantes. They help people in need help people to get the job of their dreams. They help the president Martine to white house so she could get them pardon. She was wavering the deed so the vigilantes was ready to take her out of her presidency. The six ladies Myra, Kathryn, Alexis, Lizzie, Maggie and Annie went to Columbus day party at the white house where they distract the president and stole the pardon before they were handed to them and disappear. It was a lot of laugh, drama and a good read.

This is another good book for the Sisterhood Vigilante series--it's also the final book in the series. The Sisterhood Vigilantes waits to get their pardons signed and delivered. But there's a dilemma, a setup and some snafus. In the end, they played their final part for justice at the White House to obtain their freedom. Everyone gets a happy ending from engagements to expecting babies in all the players involved in this series. Bravo! (Now I'll be reading the earlier books in the series in the near future. I've read the hardback cover.)

I usually enjoy books by Fern Michaels very much.
They are easy to read, interesting and keep you wanting to read just a little more.
This book is interesting but it is the first of the sisterhood novels that I have read.
There are quite a few characters and their relationships to remember, especially if you don't know what happened previously.
It can be read as a standalone novel but would have been better had I read earlier ones of the sisterhood.
I will look forward to reading more but will try to follow in order.
