The companion guide to the BRAIN GYM book, for parents, educators, and all others interested in the relationship between movement and whole-brain learning.
One of the best books on my teacher shelf! Whenever you have an open block ot time, pick it up and go! Once you are more experienced, you will also learn what brain gym exercises help with arousal, which help with hyperactivity, assist with healing from trauma, etc.
This is a great book to find simple exercises to engage the whole brain. With my son's dyslexia and ADHD diagnosis, I have noticed that small breaks to do a stretch, movement, or short activity gives him just the brain break he needs to be able to focus and work afterwards. We've found it very helpful!
Based on other reviews, I bought the teacher's edition. It had all the information I needed, exercises and background information. This is a great resource for parents, teachers, and therapists. It provides simple exercises to encourage different forms of learning. There is information on which activities are related as well. Children learn best with physical activity combined with mental activity. Movement while learning is so important to children and this gives more specific activities to accomplish what you are seeking.
Helpful to see better ways at approaching whole learning through body and brain synergy. I love that it explained how movement will aid in learning by exploring the relationships of the three areas: 1. Lateralilty(communication): left and right hemispheres of brain (helps with language and dyslexia) 2. Focus (comprehension): Front and back of brain (helps with hyperactivity) 3. Centering (organization): Upper and lower brain (helps with aligning physical reflexes with emotions)
