In an age of mounting credit debt, get-rich-quick schemes, and high unemployment, many people are left wondering, "Why am I always struggling with finances? Why can't I seem to get ahead?" While the market is flooded with short-term help, few resources address the root spiritual problems behind money.
In a warm, conversational style, CFO and CPA firm owner Stephen K. DeSilva offers a unique, prophetic/supernatural approach to handling money. This respected charismatic leader combines financial philosophy, biblical truth, supernatural deliverance, and prophetic teaching, and also offers related practical and prophetic exercises throughout each chapter.
Money and the Prosperous Soul will help every believer struggling with lack to overcome wrong thinking and destructive cycles and learn the biblical and supernatural principles of success. Free online resources make this a perfect resource for small group classes and self-study.
Had I realized what was in store for me on its pages, I would have read this book much sooner. Stephen De Silva writes the truths I have been needing to find, confirming some things I have understood but haven’t seen or known how to set in motion. He makes it very clear about prosperity and the lack of it – and why – especially dealing with the spirits of Poverty and Mammon.
Chapter titles are: Purpose Trouble With Money Spirit of Poverty Trust and Faith Dreaming Bound in Spirit Spirit of Mammon Dominion The Art of Purpose
This is an excellent book, easy to read and understand. Stephen De Silva teaches biblical truth in a comfortable, sincere manner, explaining the spiritual problems that underlie financial ones. It is not the secret to immediate gratification, but lays out the steps to understanding the financial benefits explained in the Bible and how to get there.
For anyone struggling to handle their finances, or simply wanting to know how to live in the provision of God, this book shows the way. Money and the Prosperous Soul is also very suitable for group study.
FANTASTIC book that is different from other books on finances. He looks at the spiritual side of things as well as logic. He addresses where our real wealth comes from and compares to the poverty spirit & how that relates to your personal finances and the ability to GIVE to others. It isn't giving because we HAVE to but the kind of giving that comes from knowing who your Daddy is!!
Stephen and Dawna De Silva are a dynamic duo. This was a challenging, fruitful read about the heart behind the Father’s desire for us to prosper (3 John 1:2). He expands the concept of prosperous living beyond monetary blessing and describes the fruit of living in true prosperity, abundance of soul, spirit, and provisions. A healthy, trustworthy soul is one postured to steward not just earthly riches but the Kingdom’s true riches (Luke 16:11). De Silva navigates well and with a fresh perspective on topics of emotional wholeness and its relationship to financial blessing. I’ll reread this one.
I was given this book by a friend and began reading it as a favour so I could talk with him about it. I am a retired minister and expected the usual scripture based, give to the church philosophy which would grant you prosperity. But this book was a surprise. I found myself following the personal and spiritual journey of the author with interest and agreement. While I am not a conservative Christian I found the presentation of call, purpose and the union with Christ well presented, especially for people who see the faith as a bargaining chip for success and wealth.
The strength of this book is in its identifying the "lies" we want to believe in order to be successful; and the lies we tell ourselves that keep us poor or miserable. These are lies about our own importance and self-worth as well as our abilities and what God expects of us. Stephen De Silva deeper insight in to the Biblical concepts of poverty, freedom, obedience, domination, and having a vision for your life. I found he has a very balanced, biblical faith and he is a good teacher (which is his purpose). Basically he says that prosperity is an inside job and that transformation and finding your purpose and living out that purpose are the tasks that lead us to prosperity.
I found myself wanting to give this book to people I know who are struggling with financial issues and I found the book personally affirming for myself. And challenging in that it asks me to look at my own faithfulness and identify where I can go deeper. But then, I am a life long learner and an evolutionary christian in my perspective.
I loved this book. As a young adult, figuring out money is pretty important. However, figuring out what God thinks of money and how I'm supposed to, as His child, steward money, is even more important. This book breaks it all down. What to avoid. What to value. Lies to rebuke, truths to believe. Wisdom for your spiritual, emotional, mental, and yes, financial wellbeing.
As this book so wisely states, most people either lean one way or the other when it comes to money. Either they think it's evil and the prosperity gospel is hogwash, or they believe the prosperity gospel is key and money is everything. Truly, money is neither everything nor evil. It's a tool. One you can use for good or evil. Does it matter if you are enslaved to money because you are rich or if you are enslaved to it because you are poor? Either way, you are enslaved to it. I'd like to be free. This book is all about that. Freedom. Using money to build God's Kingdom, not your own. And not buying into the lies that the devil wants us to believe about it.
An absolute must-read. Love that I'm able to read it so young. Such a valuable book that has so much to offer!
Amazing book, loved it. The closing section was especially good. :) I loved Stephen De Silva's look into prosperity and how that pertains to money. It was a great way of seeing the Bible for what it says and not under a filter of a "Prosperity Gospel" that can be rather cringy at times. That being said, it also shows that the Bible doesn't condone Christians being absolutely broke as a valid/holier alternative to having enough money to advance the Kingdom.
I like the depth of his writing and the sharing of his story. The book is incredible with loads of nuggets of insights.Had to re read to get my head around all the good stuff he wrote.Book is a keeper!
A friend on Facebook sent me this read. As a Bible Study teacher, I will review and take brief notes to teach and share in class coming this May 2014. I also have another book "Total Makeover" by Dave Ramsey to also review for same purpose.
The introduction is creatively and poetically written to see our financial problems: poverty and mammon. Mammon is like another term, "lover of money or riches." It already makes me want to delve into the material and highlight which ones I will use for upcoming class and teachings. All through the book, it did focus on false prosperity (mammon and poverty-mindset). It also covered the true divine purpose as believers to live in abundance and wealth according to His riches.
Regardless of the redundancy, the words did speak to my spirit and soul and plan to teach a majority of it to my class. Highlighted my book, but see that most of it is saying similar things. Favorite chapter was on "Spirit on Mammon" and another chapter I enjoyed reading was of course "Dreaming".
While some parts of book made sense and “wisdomful” - there were other parts that didn’t quite make sense or make a point that clicked with me personally

A great introduction to a God who is for us, who knows us because he made us and who has a challenging but rewarding and fulfilling purpose for our lives - a purpose that will result in us not just receiving but going on to use what we receive to fulfill the divine and unique purpose for which he has called us - to bless people, to bless society and to bless nations.
Excellent book! It will challenge you in how to think and what your priorities are. Often we think with a poverty or with a sinful greedy mentality. This book challenges you to think with the thoughts and desires of God first.
This book is a powerful study of the opposite extremes of our relationship to wealth. Do we walk in poverty? Or in mammon? Or in a healthy balance between the two.
