Favorite Quote: "Deny all you want, convince yourself that I will settle for only one night. But the way I feel for you isn't fleeting. It's not a whim. It's certainly not supernatural It's my heart. It beats for you, Moira."

It's been 2 weeks since the demon Envy-one of the Seven Deadly Sins- wrecked deadly havoc on Santa Louisa. The demon has been contained but now the order is getting reports of bodies turning up in LA bearing the same satanic marks. Demon hunters Moira and Rafe both fear that the deadly war between good and evil has just begun.

Racing to LA, Moira and Rafe discover that the demon Lust has made the City of Angels it's personal playground. A powerful coven of witches have summoned the demon Lust, aided by Moira's evil mother, Fiona. Moira and Rafe are suddenly caught in a supernatural war; pitting mortal and demonic forces against them. And as Moira's own powers start to intensify, she fears that she will once again put those she loves in danger.

The first one (Original Sin) was so-so. Not great but ok. This one was actually better, and I'm not sure why. One caveat: read the first one or you'll be lost. Even if it was blah at times, chaotic at others, you'll need it to understand this one. And if you don't like Buffy the Vampire Slayer genre, just don't bother at all. This is Buffy/Anita thriller romance fiction -- witches, ghouls, ghosts, demons, and more demons. Still, I give it a B-. I'm hanging in there and plan to read the whole series.

This book was by far better than the first one, you have the players down and understand the world better so things don't have to be over explained. This time around we are dealing with "Lust" as the sin du jour, so that makes for lots of interesting things going on. We also get to learn more in depth of the St. Michael's group and in particular Moria and Rafe. The final reveal will bring interesting things to come, and I have a suspicion on just what is going on with him.

It's been two weeks since the coven and Envy reeked havoc on Santa Louisa. Moria is dealing with nightmares, visions and wondering what sin will be unleashed next. She can no long feel her mother, the evil Fiona. Being clueless on that front has her on the edge also. But it isn't long before Moira learns that Lust has set up shop in L.A. and it's taking no prisoners.

This is only the second time I've read a book by Allison Brennan. As with the first book, the second has also blown me away. Carnal Sin is suspenseful, scenes that are action packed and full of danger, plus some intense romance. We get to see a lot of Moira and Rafe and how their relationship is progressing. I liked that everything wasn't perfect for them in the beginning, that they had issues they need to deal with. Ms. Brennan is such a brilliant storyteller, she keeps you on the edge of your seat and that's where you stay until the end of the book. I definitely recommend this book and series.

What's up with the drivel in the beginning of her books? Once again, it took me a while to immerse myself in the story.

Here we are at book 2, Envy has been contained in book 1 and now we are onto Lust — bad demon number 2 out of the 7. The series is getting better and the killings are tallying up. The evil players is on a constant one step ahead of the St. Michael's group, so one point for the evil guys.

More of Anthony hostility, goodness, I think I'm actually getting tired of this character. More backstory for Rafe, wow...it's a stretch, but I up for anything. Like I said an intriguing concept that have many potential to break out. The good vs evil saga has just begun and I'm in for the ride to see who wins.

Not sure -- It was a quick read for me, enjoyable enough for a guilty pleasure, but there are issues with the set-up (only Catholics are equipped to fight the immense evil) and the snippy attacks on Wiccans.

I struggled reading this book, felt like I was wading in deep, muddy waters. Admittedly I haven't read the first book yet, so that might partially explain it. Found it very hard going, had to re-read many sections to make sense of it all, and found the characters a bit vaguely defined.

I don’t like when a book starts out in another person’s POV besides the main characters. Kent and whatever was possessing him and making him rape and kill women, and the detective at that sleezy bar. I just didn’t care and didn’t even want to read it. I saw the same theme of having too many people in the story was at work too, something that killed the first book. WE DON’T CARE ABOUT OTHER CHARACTERS. Moira is just as fearful, just as scared and panicky as she was. She evens stops her ramblings to Rafe thinking when did she become a sniveling brat? Um, she’s always been one, courtesy of Allison Brennan for some reason choosing to write a character that showed no personal growth whatsoever. I did understand her feelings about Anthony not trusting her, everyone wary of her bcuz they think she’s tied to the underworld, and when Rico takes her blood, treating her like she’s an outsider. But seriously, some synonyms of fear are in order. Or else, the entire feeling needs to be taken out of the book and Moira needs to toughen up.

It was so gross about Detective Grant going to Velocity and “getting laid” and sometimes hooking up with some woman he used to date, and having had an open marriage with his wife. Just the kind of principles I like. And Rico, who I couldn’t wait to meet, was treating Moira and especially Rafe like crap. I didn’t like him at all! He advocated Olivet’s members shun person relationships, yet they didn’t take vows of celibacy. Nice. Rafe is instantly jealous of Rico, wondering how close he is with Moira. They’ve only known each other 2 weeks. He’s also instantly suspicious, just knowing that Rico knows something about Moira, which stems to her health, which he thinks is his business, so he’s determined to get to the bottom of it. Instant anything is annoying, especially instant lust/love. You shouldn’t be mentioning love for months, maybe a year+, not a manner of weeks. Thrust 2 strangers together and have them have this mysterious connection they can’t explain, and all of a sudden he’s in love with her. What a bunch of crap. There’s no reason to rush a relationship, esp love, in the first novel of a book when this is a series and should progress realistically. I liked that Rico was so mad at Rafe because Moira had lied to Rico to protect Rafe, and that he didn’t want Rafe going with Moira to LA. Rafe figures out that he’s so angry because he’s in love with Moira. Their relationship was certainly more interesting and attractive than Rafe’s and Moira’s. I’d like her with Rico better, if he just wasn’t so ruthless. The characters continue to be pathetic, not acting like the refined, mature, cultured people I expected. After their argument Rafe thinks You’re on notice, buddy. Really? Was that supposed to be tough? That is so incredibly lame. Why is Rafe so lame?!?!?

Rico knows her duty is to die to save the world, and he’s pretty cold about it, but I liked that he said he’s her partner and he’ll be there when it counts. He’s certainly more interesting to me than Rafe, but since she gets with Rafe I hate that Rico loves her. I loathe love triangles, it always ends badly for someone and it isn’t fair. Of course Moira has to have someone love her, to prove her worth. I hate when authors do this.

Moira was a little more likable in this, like the author suddenly realized how absolutely flat she was in the first and
Rafe explained his theory about the brain anomalies, that fighting it and having a stronger conscious meant the victims didn’t give in to the impulses. She says that the victims die either way, whether they fight or don’t fight, and “where does that leave us? Tilting at windmills?” Rafe is the only one that’s connected the dots and actually tried to come up with a helpful explanation to get them started, while our female lead really isn’t doing jack crap. So, the sarcasm was really annoying. She even calls him Don Quixote. She admits she was freaked out by the bodies, and he said that’s just because you’re human and she says “oh, joy.” He says “give yourself a break. You’re not superhuman.” And she mocks surprise and says “What? You mean I have to give back the cape and golden lasso?” Her sarcasm is nowhere near funny, it’s just making her more unlikable. Why would she get mad at someone saying she isn’t superhuman? All she does is whine and bemoan her role in this battle the entire time. Case in point because the next thing she does is have an outburst about God not helping them. I see she has made no growth nor is taking any responsibility for herself. She’s treating Rafe like crap and her attitude is grating. I dislike Rafe for even liking her. He deserves better. Why would he even be attracted to her? She has no good traits at all.

Every time Rafe showed her the least bit of concern, Moira reacted in the worst way. She was unresponsive, saying nothing at all, impatient to get going, or said something sarcastic. And Rafe getting so upset at her well-being was actually a turn-off. He’d be shaking with rage, slamming the steering wheel in regards to her being hard on herself.. it was too much, a little violent and a maybe a little scary. I thought it was so funny how at Jackson’s house, the father of the girl she helped to the dark side, was thinking that she needed to act, didn’t like being in the tiny room and cooped up. That’s just hilarious. It’s like the author had her do an about face and realized Moira needs to actually do something and be an active participant instead of an onlooker. And of course Moira has to be powerful and have all these new developments with her senses. She sees an imprint of the oral deal outside of Velocity, watching the past happen as if she was seeing it happen again. Then her sight improves and she can see auras. She just has to be the strongest and have all these powers. It’s annoying.

Rafe lists Moira’s attributes, which I know she hasn’t displayed, and it’s made more laughable by the fact that he doesn’t even know her to be saying all of this stuff. And he keeps insisting to her that he knows what kind of a person she is! Seems like the author didn’t want to take the time to form a relationship so she just jump-started it to save time. He said he’s never met anyone outside St. Michael’s with more internal fortitude, or anyone in or out of St. Michael’s that cared more about the fate of others. He also said she has an inner spark, a strength that belies her willingness to die for humanity. She sees and appreciates beauty in the world. Funny, I don’t think I’ve ever heard her say anything positive, certainly nothing about anything being beautiful. So…yeah. I’m not buying a word of this.

Rafe keeps saying things like Moira’s made of resilience and the strongest of will. Not only does he really not know that, but can he say anything about her that is romantic in the least? He could be describing his teacher for gods sake. This isn’t romantic at all. It’s stuffy and boring. They have the standard attack and retreat scenario with a witch. They run in, take something, have a fight in which Moira gets hit, and then they leave with about as many questions as they had when they got there. Attack and retreat, attack and retreat. It’s like accomplishing nothing and it is sooo boring! Nothing happens in here. And Rafe, ever the model for masculine strength, gets pushed down by the witch and almost gets killed. I’m a fan of feminism, but I really do like the man to be stronger than the woman. Seems kind of weak and pathetic that Rafe is getting knocked down by a woman. Moira drones on and on about her feelings for him, saying she’d been fighting them for weeks. Change that to months and I might understand the angst. And it’s not weeks, it’s 2 so I think they could’ve made it much longer before they slept with each other. It was over quickly, not hot or anything, just following the same pattern of expediency and boring that makes up the whole novel.

The romance scene at the end was good. The emotion and the feelings between them was nice, I’d just appreciate it more if their relationship wasn’t 2 weeks long and they both loved each other so fast. But it did get better at the very end of the book, once that awful, confusing scene with the demon Lust was over. This was so much better than the first one. It left off with some interesting concepts, that Moira had to willingly sacrifice herself to destroy the book and Rico said he’s going to come get her to train her more. It did leave some interest about the next books, but the writing and the plot is what kills these books. I can’t even understand the logic. It is so hard to follow a conversation, the dialogues are soo long as they’re explaining something to an outsider or trying to figure out an answer together. I literally cannot follow a conversation. They spend so much time hypothesizing and speculating on what to do, what will happen, that I get so impatient. I’m impatient for action and instead I get long talks and no answers. I read them back to back which probably contributed to a lot of my irritation. I don’t like the whole demon/witch/people don’t believe or care about God thing. The action scenes fall apart like paper in water. They’re just not described well and the whole novel really isn’t written well. I found the sex rituals and demons raping men and all of the demon sex scenes really disturbing. I could’ve done without that. This one was so bogged down with other characters, then Skye just dropped off the radar as Fern, the woman at the morgue, Grant Nelson the detective and his partner Jeff, and Julie, Grant’s on/off girlfriend, and Wendy and Nicole and some other witches. There’s too many characters to keep up with and being in their perspectives offers nothing. It just takes away from the story. I was so turned off by the details in here, Grant saying if his mom only knew what him and the babysitter had done while they were away. She was 18 and he was 14, as if that isn’t disturbing, and him wanting to sleep with hookers because of the demon, and even wanted to sleep with Moira. Of course, one more man that likes her. It’s enough that Rafe likes her, every man in here doesn’t have to be attracted to her.

I have enjoyed the audio books of this series. I'm not a huge fan of the church is good and witches are evil so that's a bit of an irritation for me. Everyone has different tastes of course. As far as action, it is fast paced and exciting. The romance is physical and steamy. I like the main couple's intensity.

Ok, so this is not my favorite genre so don't listen or take my review seriously if this is your fav reading.... but this always strike me as silly...

The writing is good and the plot was good, so on that level I enjoyed the read... hence the 3 stars... but do I care for demons and fallen angles... not really and hence the 2 stars within the three.

3 stars

Happy Reading!

This was another action-packed, suspense-filled supernatural story in this series with some intense romance sprinkled throughout. Brennan is a good storyteller and has a way of bringing the characters to life. On to the next book in the series!

This novel was something else that's for sure.  It wasn't a bad novel, but it wasn't a great one either.  It's somewhere in between them, but I'm not real sure it's equally between them either.  I loved the fact that Rafe and Moria finally got together.  That made the novel for me just because I was so happy that she finally admitted her feelings.  I mean it's only the second novel, but she obviously had feelings for him.  The lead detective on the case is quite a character himself, plus all the drama around him is just a bonus.  It gave a little in each chapter, while trying to keep us interested all at the same time.  Most of the time it worked, but sometimes it didn't.  In this novel Moria and Rafe are both together yet not quite together.  Moria still considers it her job to protect Rafe from the demons.  While Rafe considers it his job to protect Moria from herself.  This causes quite the friction between the two ans can ultimately distract them from their job.  The Order of St. Micheal's thinks that Moria's blood may be the key to killing the demons, so they send someone that Moria knows quite well to take her blood.  Moria herself has had this sinking suspicion that her blood does something to demons, but has yet to prove it.  So when someone she knows comes for her blood she's very angry about it.  The icing on this particular cake is that they may have found the demon Lust in L.A., the city of angels.  Lust has already attacked two people ans a third target is soon to be on its way.  Moria and Rafe have to get there as soon as possible, but what if the Order of St. Micheal's doesn't want them there.  Trouble is brewing within the order.  Anthony is shipped overseas and Skye is trying to keep Santa Louisa together when everything all goes wrong at once.  A band of all female witches known for their sexual acts called up a succubus to do their bidding.  However, when Moria is around plans never go right for anyone.  It doesn't help any that their leader is crazy and they may have caught the demon Lust instead.  This novel created a mixture of feelings within me.  First off the cover of this novel drew me in and made me believe that it'd have a little more romance to it this time.  While it did have more than the last novel, it wasn't enough to satisfy me at all.  When it came down to drama this novel definitely has that factor to it.  It's almost too much drama actually and it starts to make you wonder about the actual plot.  The plot wasn't that bad, but I feel like it could have been developed a little bit more.  It seemed out of reach to me and that's sad because I was actually really interested in this one.  This particular novel should have been a real eye catcher just because of the demon in it.  It should have been great or amazing and the fact that it wasn't kind of depressed me.  It wasn't a bad novel, by any means.  It just wasn't what I expected it to be either.

Better than the first and left me with tons of questions about how they will be captured, how they will work with or against the prophecy, how the relationships will proceed and more! The action was non stop in this storyline and included magic, violence, crime fighting, and romance.

More backstory was provided about the order and overall mission. Moira shows a different side to her character as her relationship with Rafe progresses and we see her interactions with her trainer Rico. Anthony is still not a fan and I wonder how/if that will change or lead to something in the field for the next book! Fiona, Moira mom, was not present in this story, but her legacy and a member of her coven were active parts of the story. I can see so many possible routes for this storyline and can’t wait to read the next book to see how it progresses!

Carnal Sin is the second book in the Seven Deadly Sins series and it was simply awesome, the only thing that disappoints me is that I have to wait for the third book now to find out what happens next.

Carnal Sin was all I hoped it would be and so much more, it easily surpassed Original Sin as the characters continue to develop and learn more of what they really face on their journey to destroy the evil unleashed on the world.

I totally loved the indepth and well researched details in the book relating to the ancient book, the amazing discovery with the power of the blood and the growing relationship between Rafe and Moira. I just loved it from start to finish, it was so hard to put down at times having to sneak back and finish chapters (I know so sad)

After reading the interview at the back I realise how time consuming it is to write so indepth on the whole demon and witch situations but I desperately need book three I can't wait to see what happens I am truly hooked on this series. Definitely deserves 5 stars

A fan of Allison Brennan, I was pleased for the most part with the second entry in the Seven Deadly Sins series. There was fast paced suspense and non-stop action throughout the book which held my attention. CARNAL SIN took a lot more time to focus in on the romance this time around and the love scenes between Rafe and Moira were spicy. The one thing I had trouble with was the constant need for Nina Hardwick, one of the staff attorneys for the Board of Supervisors to introduce her job title in almost every scene we meet her. It was really noticeable by page 409 of the 427 page book and I had to laugh. She was an integral player in the plot, but I just didn't get it. Thank goodness this detail didn't detract from the overall story. Readers who have been following along will get a unexpected shocker at the end that could affect the rest of the books.

This is a continuation of events from Original Sin only this time the gang is searching for Lust. Of course Lust is in a night club in Los Angeles where sex is readily available and lust is rampant (among other things).

I do find it suspect that Moira and Rafe are madly in love after only two weeks acquaintance. I still dislike Rico and well, the whole Order really though I do applaud their end goal. I'll follow the gang on to their next adventure in Mortal Sin.

Firstly YEY! for moira and rafe!!!!.....i really wasnt expecting anything to happen between them in a major way until at least the 3rd book(cos the author usually leaves us hanging...UGH!...but not allison *Claps hands*)....

Im very glad that this book was mostly moira and rafe based(you know without anthony and skye)....but i do have to say that even though i enjoyed the book (esp the smexi parts with moira and rafe), i think i enjoyed original sin better. i just dont know why...???....maybe i felt original sin was more action packed, i dont know.

But in saying that, im very much looking forward to reading the next one :D

While this book started off slow, Brennan soon found her pacing. Known for her mystery thrillers and crime novels with the occasional paranormal twist, Brennan's newest foray into the cross-over genre of urban crime fantasy is an interesting experiment that works on many levels. CARNAL SIN "fell into my lap" before the first book in this new series, ORIGINAL SIN. I will be going back to read to the first book and the next five books to be released are definitely on my radar. If a reader is looking for something new, Brennan's Seven Deadly Sins series might just be the ticket.

An interesting concept, that although still deals with the supernatural, it has stayed away from the market flood of vampire stories that are present at the moment. It started off a little slow but when the action started to build the story really got going. I am wondering two things though 1) What did Fiona do to Rafe? 2) and who is Moira's fathers? I have a feeling that that will be a key piece of the story in books to come. Overall I enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next one to be released.

I think I am more inclined towards this book in the series because of the demon, Lust. I particularly liked what this sin stands for (though it does not necessarily reflect my lifestyle). This second book was actually better; maybe because the players are laid out now and the world is better understood so things don’t have to be over explained? Though you definitely must read the first one or you will be lost.

Loved it! Wow talk about sexy! Not used to Allison Brennan being so sinful in a book, but she knocked it out of the park and then some. Moira and Rafe are back this time to go after the demon Lust, but they get alot more than they bargain for. I finished this story very quickly and actually mourned a little when I was finished. I have been waiting a year for this book to come out and it did not disappoint. A++++
