This is by far my favourite in the series. This book outshines the previous two books well for me anyway.
It has been a long time since I have read anything unique and original and I bow before Ms. Lyon for her imagination and the execution of this book. 5 „She’s my second chance“ +++++ Stars.
Days remaining of handfast contract: Fourteen.
Ailish is an Earth Witch with a Demon Witch as a mother. Her mother batered with her to Asmodeus as she is the siren through trickery and deceit she accepts the handfast but doesn’t complete the ritual. She runs away and through witch karma becomes blind. It was worth it to save her friend Haley’s life. She is back in Glassbreakers to break the curse either die trying and then the Demon Coven dies with her.
Phoenix has pledged his life to Wing Slayer to stop the Rogues & Asmodeus. The last two months he has been compelled by a voice in his head. As his mother died of schizophrenia he is scared that the same will happen to him. And they lived on the streets and that is how Key & Phoenix met.
They don’t get on very well at the beginning as Ailish is very independent and Phoenix doesn’t want to be a babysitter like he did for his mother. No one will help Ailish because she is handfasted to a demon. She wants to save her soul to get into Summerland. But the handfast needs to be broken. Or her mother needs to be eliminated.
There is a legend about the siren & the phoenix, they belong together. They help and need one another. Phoenix wisens up though.
She was the other half of his soul. She’d been his to protect since birth.
Eventually they do finish the soul mirror binding.
Days remaining of handfast contract: Four.
Ailish mother is gone and yet the handfast is still on.
Days remaining of handfast: One.
Phoenix pays the due to break the bind.
Days remaining of handfast: Zero.
Ailish brings him back to life.
Key is getting worse. I need his book.
Shining light ist hat Morgan had her baby although there were problems.

5 Flaming Stars!!!
I loved it! (I'm on a roll lately) What I like so much about this series is the impossible circumstances the two main characters must overcome to get to their HEA. In this "episode" Phoenix, whom I truly adored in this book, not only has to overcome his craving for witch blood and becoming a rogue, but his aversion to being in a relationship at all. It sounds like he's a jerk, but he is anything but. Because of his past presumed failure, he carries a ton of guilt and has a deep fear of failing any woman he may come to truly care for. On the other hand he has a huge hero complex and women adore him. But he had always been a love 'em and leave 'em happy kind of guy. Not a jerk, just not into relationships. He can't have anyone having to depend on him. Ailish is a blind witch that has been handfasted to a daemon for almost eight years. Because of the ultimate betrayal by a person she should have been able to trust, she doesn't trust anyone. Not even her own thoughts and desires. But Ailish has resisted the deamon since she was 16 years old. She was strong and determined, and never gave up. But her time is running out. If she doesn't give in by her 24th birthday, she will die. If she does give in she looses her soul to the deamon forever. She may go on the favorite female lead list. I liked this girl a lot!
This book was so full of action, and mystery, and sweet romance. Not to mention HOT! There was never a dull moment. I'm so happy I stumble across this series. I cannot wait for Key's story. Sexy Dragon? Yes, please! Two more weeks. Eeeek!

Even though I still struggle a bit with the bloodlust (but no vampires) at the heart of Lyon's witch mythos which makes an unmated witch-hunter struggle not to kill a witch, I really did think that this was the best of Lyon's series to date and ended up really liking the story once the hero forms enough of a connection to the heroine that he's not thinking of killing her everytime he's in her presence.
Both leads Phoenix and Ailish are good, with poignant back stories that have turned them into heroic people willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of others, and Lyon weaves into their story a legendary element. Not only are they soul mirrors (soul mates and a familiar who have been fractured by a demon bargain and who are only whole if they are lucky enough to find each other and 'bond') but they are also the legendary Phoenix and Siren. I just liked the destined connection which allows her song to reunite them and to call him back from the ashes life time after life time. I also liked that the Ailish has found a loophole in the witches 'harm none' after suffering the backlash of witch karma that left her blind as a teen - she's honed her fighting skills and a purely physical attack doesn't carry the tenfold reprecussions. And... I am such a sucker for a hero with wings.
With the ending more than balancing out the roughness of the beginning of the story for me, I really did enjoy Night Magic, and since Lyon's also did a really good job of setting up her next leading man, who is tortured by dark visions, I am excited that there is only a month to wait before we get Key's story.

I liked this one. A lot. Probably the best so far.
Hey, I have a special spot for Phoenixes and Dragons so I have a good feeling about the next book! 😄
I also have a real soft spot for damaged/disabled MCs. I don't know, they just get my protective instincts all revved up!
The unfortunate part is the similarities and the cookie cutter plot lines each book seems to follow. It's easy to love the characters but the story is basically the same in each.
Read one, read 'em all.
But am I gonna let that stop me?

Night Magic was quite a good book. Lyon did a good job of bringing the world and characters to life. I liked the characters, felt invested in them, and wanted them to triumph. The sex scenes were very well done :)
The thing is, I think this book could have been even better, for three reasons.
1. Although a good enough writer, Lyon struggles with show-don't-tell. I see a lot more potential if she would work on this.
2. The ending felt a bit clumsy to me.
3. Magic, magic, magic, MAGIC. He felt it, she felt it, they felt it, she felt it in her pelvis, she felt it in her nipples, she felt it when he kissed her, he saw it shimmering on her skin, he felt it emanate from her, she felt it from the other witches, they felt it in his tattoo, it called to him, it tore through her, magic, magic, magic. Obviously, magic is hugely important in this book, but it got to the point where I felt it was just too much, especially in the sex scenes.
But all in all, I definitely enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the others in the series.

WOW… what else I can say about these amazing stories. I'm really impressed to how different each plot has been in the first three books. This one had me engrossed with the image of our heroine Ailish being a blind tough kickboxing witch. Although, it didn't seem to keep her from being sliced and diced almost to death. The suspense and danger, the good versus evil, felt true to life. And, the emotional battle for both Phoenix and Ailish made this feel like a realistic story. And, that's saying something when it's a paranormal romance fairy tale.
Ailish... My heart hurt for this character. She suffered her entire young life. And, at the ripe old age of twenty-three, eleven months, and two weeks she came home to die. Powerful strength of character in this heroine.
Phoenix... I came to understand this character. And, Phoenix this guilt ridden man, well, Love Ennobled him. Very swoon worthy.
The moral... Good always wins over evil.
This story held me in suspense waiting for the outcome of two things. Of course I knew there would be a happily ever after, but how that would play out held me tight. At one point I found myself saying "Come on Phoenix, what would Chuck Norris do?" Didn't these hunters know about bazooka's?.... LOL....
In all three books all the men have been self-sacrificing loving alphas, but only Sutton has captured my heart so far.
The ending in this story was an emotional ride, making it an excellent read! Now, on to book 4.

Original review: I'm a big fan of this series but I have to say, Jennifer Lyon reached deep inside her characters and told a story that is both heart-wrenching and romantic. Phoenix Torq is a man who cannot walk away from from a woman in trouble. Ailish is a blind witch desperate to break the bond her mother, a rogue witch, tricked her into on her sixteenth birthday. These two are thrown together for better or worse. When a book touches me so much I cry, it automatically goes on my keeper shelf. But when a book makes me want to immediately go back to the beginning a reread it immediately, I know I've discovered something priceless. I own this book in Kindle edition and in paperback. If it came in hardback, I'd own that edition, too!I now have a second digital version because when Ms. Lyon re-released the series, I bought the updated edition. Yes, I love this series, and author, that much.

Jennifer Lyon continues her exciting world of witches and witch hunters in Night Magic with the leather wearing, motorcycle riding Wing Slayer Hunter, Phoenix. Weaving a story of destiny and magic, Lyon provides readers with non-stop action and suspense. Night Magic was another one that kept me on the edge of my seat, because just when you think the main couple of Phoenix and Ailish were going to make it to a HEA, another twist was thrown at you! Taking readers on a roller coaster ride of emotions the author kept me guessing as to the outcome of the story the whole ride through.
Phoenix and Ailish were both strong, well defined characters providing great dialogue, sizzling chemistry and heart-touching romance. I can't wait to see what is next for these Wing Slayer Hunters and am looking forward to the next book, Sinful Magic.

These Wing Slayer Hunter books just keep getting better and better with each book. Jennifer Lyon writes such a great mix of action, suspense, and romance that i find them hard to put down...and this one in particular, was the most emotional one so far! I loved it! Anyone looking for a different spin on paranormal romances, involving witches should definitely give these a try.

What an amazing series, it seems that this series gets better as it moves on! Ailish and Phoenix were amazing together and te story of the sirenand te phoenix rising is so good. I also like that we get to still meet and interact with the other characters from the past two books. Good story, good action, read this series you will be hooked !!!!

Same story different title. Despite being formulaic and predictable I cared about the characters enough to see how their part in the story ends. What I would like to read next is the story of all three 'chosen' Wing Slayer couples take down Quinn Young and defeat the curse!

In book 3 in the Wing Hunter Slayers, it’s Phoenix’s job to stop rogues from killing innocent earth witches. When he meets Ailish, he’s desperate to fight the bloodlust that’s telling him to kill her. Cursed into killing witches when they once protected them, the Wing Slayer Hunters need to find their soul-mirror (the earth witch whose soul is connected to theirs) in order to break the curse. Ailish is Phoenix’s soul-mirror, but she’s already promised to another. Phoenix is also the mythical phoenix and finds in Ailish more than just the other half of his soul.
Ailish is an earth witch but was raised in a coven of cruel demon witches. Her evil mother promised Ailish’s soul and her magical siren voice to the demon Asmodeus. Tricked into a handfasting ceremony with Asmodeus, Ailish has struggled for the past eight years to break the handfast and to survive on her own. She’s a strong, determined woman and being blind made her that much stronger.
I absolutely loved this book. It’s fast-paced and kept my attention. Phoenix and Ailish are wonderful characters (my fav couple in the series), and you can’t help but root for them. He’s so sexy, sweet, and a total badass with a funny side. The Chuck Norris jokes are hilarious. The ending is a tearjerker, so make sure you grab a tissue.
The side characters are great as always. The story takes place about five or six months after the first book, so it’s nice to see how the bonded couples are doing and how the non-bonded men are coping with the bloodlust. We also get an update on Joe and Morgan, the mortals who befriended the hunters in book one.
There were a few typos, for example: the crying kitten can’t be both a her and a him kitty.
The book is a great addition to series, and it furthers the overall series arc about taking down the evil Quinn Young, the leader of the rogues and the Wing Slayer Hunters main enemy.
I definitely recommend it.

🔥I was so excited to read Phoenix's story. And oh the rich story telling and legend involved with this book was amazing.
So every century an earth witch is born with the power of the siren voice and called the siren. The siren's familiar is always a phoenix. With the curse and the soul mirror loophole and the obvious name of Phoenix, Phoenix had chosen a phoenix for his Wing Slayer mark.
🎵Ailish Donavan is the siren, and she is in trouble. Her mother is a demon witch and tricked her at 16 in handfasting to a demon. And she's back after training for years as a kickboxer to take out the coven of demon witches.
🔥Poor Phoenix has a fear of burning to death. Stemming from dreams at 4 of burning. Because he was always the phoenix and when Ailish was born the phoenix died until the siren called him again.
🎵🔥I absolutely loved Phoenix and Ailish's story. Ailish is not a typical earth witch. She has made her body into a weapon to avoid witch karma, after being blinded by witch karma saving a friend from her mom. Phoenix is still dealing with anger over his history involving his mom's death.
🔥🎵They really learn that healing and relying on another isn't weakness. And not everyone needs saving. This is definitely my favorite in the series.

This was a beautiful story. I didn’t think that this book could top book two in the set, boy was I wrong. This story was just as breathtaking and heart breaking as the first, if not more. My emotions are raw after that read. I feel like my heart was ripped out. An emotional roller coaster of emotions that are soul shattering.
The love between Phoenix and Allish is so hauntingly beautiful. I can’t wait to read the next book. I am not sure any of the rest can compare to this one.

This series keeps getting better. Phoenix and Ailish, the Phoenix and the Siren was an incredible story. Both strong characters trying to forgive themselves and fighting for retribution. I couldn’t put this down as I needed to know what happened!!

Star-crossed lovers vibe with found family themes. It was incredible to read.
The love story both past and present was beautiful to read and there was so many times that I choked up with tears because the scenes were so touching.

SPOILERS MAY BE AHEAD. ALSO SPELLING MISTAKES> YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Ok, so I had been invested in this series ever since I read Soul Magic and loved it, then I read Forbidden Magic and loved it too. But then I was really skeptical about approaching Night Magic, because of Phoenix. The thing is I loved Phoenix, his acerbic wit, backhanded sarcasm and charm and he was one of my favourite of the guys, but I wasn't sure how he would write in romance. In my head, he would either be a jerk (which I really can't stand, even and perhaps especially in romance novels) or completely different from his true character, which can admittedly be sometimes jerky. That being said, I approached Night Magic with figurative balls of steel. My feelings can now be summed up in three words...
I. Was. Wrong.
Because not only did Lyon manage not to make Phoenix a jerk, she still incorporated some of that personality and attitude that was Phoenix as well as giving him a tough, tortured blind chick to handle him. Well played Lyon, well played.
Needless to say Aislinn has ridden to the top of my favourite of the girls, a list that had previously started with Roxy and ended with Darcy. I love her strength and her fire and her sheer kickassitude even in the face of apparent inevitable peril. I loved how the author grew her and Phoenix's relationship right from scratch at a point where it didnt seem awkward or forced. Their relationship was completely natural, you know, aside form him craving her witch blood sometimes and the plenty and plenty of sex. But apart from that it was completely normal, and not at all archetypal *cough cough Darcy and Axel cough cough* and over done.
Well okay maybe a little over the top but that's pretty much typical for Paranormal romance.
Anyway, as a whole the book was really good, action packed, never got boring. Here's my own little summary: Basically Aislinn is ticking like a timebomb. She has a very limited amount of time to get this thing of her wrist which link her to the demon Asmosdeus (or however the hell it's spelt) or she dies. If she gives in the Asmosdeus she becomes a demon witch, which is really as bad as it sounds. Phoenix keeps hearing Aislinns voice in his head somehow adn it keeps drawing him to her against his will, and at first he's pretty pissed about it, but then he gets to know her a little bit and comes on his own (haha "comes" on his own) to see her.
I'm not sure if that was a spoiler because if you read romance novels you can pretty much guess whats going to happen from he beginning. SO basically, story good, writing style-excellent and descriptive and all around a very good read.
If there was one set back for me with this book (now this is really just a personal preference and a problem I have with a lot of romance series in general) is that at some point, is an excess of side characters. Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind the other characters showing up once in a while, but they came in much to frequently and made it a bit annoying for me cause you know that feeling when everyone's talking and your just trying to listen to one person? yeah its kind of like that. I was trying to focus on the two main characters, but then Axel and Darcy kept showing up ( which was annoying as hell cuz I liked neither of them) and Sutton and Carla ( whom I liked but didnt want yo see as often as I did) and the rest. I mean yeah it's nice that those characters dropped by to remind everyone they were still alive, but they could have conducted their business from elsewhere. I was trying to focus on Phoenix and Aislinn and didn't really have time for them walking around flaunting their love everywhere. I'm happy about their happy ending, but this was somebody else's story.
And another thing that bugged me, were Carla and Darcy the only good witches of their coven thingy? Because they always seemed to be the only ones doing shit around there. Its just weird, considering how many witches there were.
Over all i highly recommend this story to anyone who loves paranormal romance, lots and lots of sex and interesting characters.

Night Magic is the third installment of Jennifer Lyon’s Wing Slayer Hunter series. In this amped-up novel we meet Ailish Donovan, a blind earth witch who was bound, as a teenager, to a demon by her power hungry, rogue witch mother. For the past eight years Ailish has the victim of a nasty Catch-22: she has been desperately searching for a way to break the binding but no earth witch will help her because of the binding. Consequently, Ailish has learned little about her own magic in the interceding years that can help save her life now. One thing she did learn: she has a powerful voice that has the ability to enhance any and all magic living around her. Unbeknownst to Ailish, her voice also has the power to call her soul mirror.
For months now Wing Slayer Hunter Phoenix Torq has been hearing a voice in his head and it likes to sing. The voice is at once compelling and disturbing, even for a Hunter the voice is an unusual ability in a male not bonded to his soul mirror. One night the voice in Phoenix’s head becomes far too strong to resist and he runs to Ailish only to find her trying, yet again, to perform a spell that will release her from the demon binding. What Phoenix stumbles into blows his mind and shatters his perceptions about what an earth witch really is. Ailish is a world-class kick boxer and upon meeting Phoenix she kicks his ever-loving ass.
While both Ailish and Phoenix are accustomed to sacrifice, neither is prepared for what’s in store for them. The two fall for one another almost instantly and their attraction to one another borders on primal. Neither is afraid to give into their primal urges but both realize that they have very little time to satisfy these urges before the demon binding claims Ailish’s life. Their task of finding a solution to the problem is made all the harder by the fact that the other witches (Carla and Darcy) and the remaining Wing Slayer Hunters find it hard to trust a witch who is bound to a demon. As we discover, both Ailish and Phoenix are willing to sacrifice everything in order to save the other.
As always, Lyon’s satisfies the reader with a strong plot line that ties in nicely with the long term plot line. Ailish is by far the strongest of the female characters: her strength (both physical and mental), her confidence, and her ability to love despite all she has been through leaves the reader cheering for her! Phoenix is one of my favorite Hunters which he earned through his actions. Phoenix doesn’t just love Ailish, he loves everything about her and even though she shakes his foundations, he rebounds nicely and becomes a true partner or soul mirror to his witch.

With this book I think this series is hitting it's stride. We get to see a lot of the characters that we have come to love and get to know a couple more really well. I really liked that at the heart of this one was the mythology of the Phoenix. For some reasons I really love stories that deal with this rising bird from the ashes. I think it is because there is always the hint of forgiveness within the stories.
Phoenix is a Wing Hunter who chose for his bird his namesake. For the last few months he is haunted by a voice in his head. As he comes to learn that voice is one of a real person, a witch who is hand-fasted to a demon. There is something about this woman that calls to him, but still repels him due to association with the demon.
We do find out that everything this not cut and dry, Ailish did not make this bargain with 100% full knowledge, her only saving grace from the hunters. Ailish is one of the few make believe heroines that I really admire. Yes, she is up the creek with out a paddle due to her own naivete and flat out not wanting to see what was there, but when push came to shove she renounced everything and ran for her own survival. With her mother on her heels she finds a friend only to be found. In order to save her friend she strikes out at her mother, which causes her witch karma to come back at her trice fold, blinding her. Does she let this keep her down, no, she finds a way to make herself stronger by becoming the only blind professional kick boxer. How can you not love her????
With the hand-fast deadline barreling fast upon them, Ailish and Phoenix have to find a way to trust each other, the other hunters and witches. ‘Night Magic’ raised the stakes of the Wing Slayer novels. I have loved both of the previous novels in this series but this one truly blew me away. I mean her sexy witch hunters will keep your pulse racing and make your keep turning the page in any book but this couple was intense, and the story that went along with them was unlike anything I have ever read before.
I have yet again been brought to tears and not been able to put the book down, thanks to the brilliance that Jennifer puts into words in these novels. I am absolutely in love and obsessed with these books and their delicious characters, as soon as I finish writing this review I am going to start the fourth book in fact.
If you think you have the way the couples go figured out than this book will blindside you, trust me. Ailish Donovan is a blind witch who has trained to be a great boxer due to the fact that she has been tricked into a handfast with the demon Asmodeus. All Ailish ever wanted to do was good and be an earth with and help people. Will our hero Phoenix be able to save her or will she give into the demon and become a demon witch?
There was so much depth to this plot, so many twists and turns that it was such an amazing rollercoaster ride. I was rooting for Ailish and Phoenix throughout the whole book but you really have no idea what truly in store for these two. This one had me completely guessing until the very end and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
The Wing Slayer hunters and their witches have truly become some of my favorite characters and I would highly recommend this sexy, action-packed, paranormal romance to anyone looking for a good book to sink their teeth into. A big five stars for sure.

"Night Magic" by Jennifer Lyon. Book 3 in the Wing Slayer Hunter series.
I really liked this book. The legend of the phoenix rising from the ashes has always been one of my favourite and Jennifer Lyon has done a great job integrating that legend into this story about Phoenix and Ailish.
Phoenix does a lot of things. He's a hero protecting women from abusive situations, a Wing Slayer Hunter protecting earth witches from rogue hunters, and he fights the curse of wanting witch blood every day of his life. But don't ask him to do the relationship thing...he doesn't do that. And now he has a major problem; he's found his soul-mirror, who happens to be handfasted to a demon! There's no way he can trust her. If they complete the soul-mirror bond, he may lose his own soul if Ailish becomes a demon witch.
Ailish is trying her best to be a good earth-witch even though she's handfasted to a demon. She's determined to break the handfast, even if she has to die to do it. The problem is Phoenix. He says he's her soul-mirror but she doesn't even know what that means! And it doesn't matter anyway. She can't trust him. She can only trust and depend on herself. But to break the handfast she needs Phoenix's help.
