Set to the familiar music of "The Twelve Days of Christmas", verses describe different animals that illustrate the wonders of the wild world and includes a factual section about Earth Day and ways to celebrate it.
I think this would be a hit with kids due to the beautiful illustrations and "song" aspect. Honestly, the writing is nothing spectacular as it is basically "The Twelve Days of Christmas" but with "Earth Day Birthday" instead of Christmas. So, we get twelve wolves a-howling, two sleeping bears, an eagle in a blue sky... but, it's all quite nice and the illustrations are, as I said, quite nice--realistic but accessible. There's a section in the back giving the history of Earth Day and some ideas for how to celebrate it.
the children enjoyed this book and the large colorful pictures of animals. It is written to the song the 12 days of Christmas so was easier to read. It would’ve been helpful to have a small picture on each page of the preceding animals though.
A beautiful book that celebrates nature and the "Earth Day Birthday" to the tune of The Twelve Days of Christmas. The book ends with a two page spread showing a family both enjoying and caring for nature; the text says, "On the day known as Earth Day, as every day should be, we care for creatures as our family." At the back of the book, there is a page about the history of Earth Day and ideas of things to do for an Earth Day party, such as making an Earth Day birthday card or writing a poem about the earth.
The illustrations are beautiful examples of photo-realism with an interesting smattering of personification on the various animals. The colors are rich earth tones and bright ocean blues.
Sung to the "Twelve Days of Christmas," this is a charming book that celebrates wildlife and has a great message at its conclusion about caring for our environment. This would be a nice way to introduce preschool - primary grades to the conservation message.
This one was met with a chorus of "awwww"s from my first graders! Beautiful artwork accompanies this book, set to the tune of the Twelve Days of Christmas.
