An inspirational autobiography by the singer, actress, and star of Touched by an Angel describes Reese's lifelong partnership with God, her youth in the Detroit slums, personal tragedy, her battle with a near-fatal illness, her successful entertainment career, and her role as a minister. 250,000 first printing. Tour.
In this read the mystery of angels is somehow unlocked. Mrs. Reese gives insight into a question which has encircled my mind continuosly throughout my youth. Yet, today in my ripening age, I find peace in the knowledge that somewhere in my lifetime, there was, is and shall always be someone looking out for my best even when at times my seems unfairly not good enough for others. I love the journey and the depth of her depiction on how love (GOD) is always just a whisper away. This is a good read, no a great read for those seeking understanding on a higher plane. ~LaSonya
If this were just a book about her life, I would have given it 5 stars. But, a lot of it is about her "Christian" life and her version of Christian and my version of Christian are quite different. I could not finish the book.
I am relieved that no-nonsense Della Reese believed in the presence of angels. I thought the title was an attempt to be facetious. No hidden meaning. She discussed every tribulation and glory in her life and shared how she encountered different types of angels. I believe Ms. Della rests in the eternal love, joy, and peace that is Jesus Christ.
Della Reese has always been one of my favorite singers and she could also act! In this book, she writes about her humble beginnings in Detroit (also my hometown) and I could relate to all of the places she described, which made me like her even more. She never forgot where she came from and was grateful for all of her successes. Her climb to the top was slow and steady. She did not hit it big overnight. She discusses her marriages and why they failed and lovingly wrote about her fourth and final husband. She described how she became a mother (it was unconventional) to a boy and girl in need (not just financial need). I enjoyed reading about her experiences in Hollywood, but what really stayed with me was her unconditional faith in God--something she learned from her mother. 'Let Go. Let God' was her motto and it served her well. In times of great trouble--and she had her share, starting with a bloody collision with a glass patio door and then a brain aneurism that led to two brain surgeries ten days apart. Her life was not easy, but she would be the first to say that she was especially blessed with many remarkable people and opportunities. If you want to read something uplifting in these troubled times, I would recommend this book. It definitely left me with a positive feeling. I only wish I could have met her in person--from one Motown girl to another.
I loved Della and what a wonderful woman she was. She overcame obstacles in her life to achieve her success and didn't let her past dictate her future. I believe her faith was real and her belief in her God was real. She is an inspiration.
this is about the life of della reese, singer and actress, and her life as as an actress and singer and her life now since her brush with death after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, her recovery, and her life now both as an actress, and as an ordained minister in the luthern church. well worth reading
