This book was under 'hip-hop lit'. It is about a woman who is raped by her stepdad. She kills him and becomes a stripper, then a model, then a dancer, then a rapper. At the end she finds Jesus. I liked it. The main character wasn't very likeable – she was very flawed. Sometimes she did some really mean-spirited things, at other times she seemed like a 'good' person. Very interesting. Everyone cheats on everyone, and sex is a commodity.

If You Can't Stand the Heat, Stay Out of Miami!
Desiree "Dez" Mirabella Torres Jackson's life is shattered at a tender age. Leaving New York and her turbulent past behind (or so she thinks), Dez embarks on a frantic search of money, power and respect. Young and unskilled, she finds employment at the infamous Rolexxx Club in Miami, FL. On her journey, she'll cross paths with the notorious, the relentless, the rich and the elite.

Newcomer Meta Smith has announced her arrival with a very well written debut. It's hard to believe this was her first book because it appears to be told with such ease. Meta vividly captures the pains and frustrations of Dez as she searches for her place in life. Kudos to the author for taking a storyline that has been done so many times before and owning it, separating her from others.

In this book Meta Smith created a plot that was out of this world. The book starts off fast pace and keeps your attention all the way through. the story never dulls out like some books tend to do. Desiree, the main character, is hungry for success and willing to do whatever she has to do to get her paper. Ginger is an independent woman as well. That's what makes the book so good. In the middle of the book Meta puts a spin in there that will blow you away and switch up the mood of the rest of the story. The Rolexxx will leave you on the edge turning pages as fast as you can to find out what is going to happen next.

Being born and raised in Miami but out of the limelight, it showed me a whole different side of my hometown. I loved the book and enjoyed actually living the alternat lifestyle through this character. Looking forward to reading Queen of Miami.
