What do you do when you find out your whole life has been a lie? First the birth mother you believed was dead is, in fact, alive. Then you discover you have a three-year-old niece who needs you.For Lisa Clarke it means making herself into a new woman. A woman who's willing to turn her life upside down to take in a child--even though she has limited skills in the parenting department. Fortunately, she knows someone who is a natural with kids: Mason Stephens. "Unfortunately," he's also her ex-fiance.
Bonding over her niece has given Lisa and Mason a chance to resume their relationship--a chance she never expected to have. More importantly, being together has given her hope....
I fell in love with reading at a very early age, mostly because my mother was a school teacher and she insisted that my sisters and I be able to read really well. It wasn't until a career change that I was able to embrace my joy of writing. I'm happiest when I'm writing. I will always write. I can't help myself. I liked the conflict in this book, though I may be a bit biased as the characters are similar to my husband and I. My biggest complaint is the author sort of beats you over the head with their issues in case you didn't get it. Overall, though, the story is well-developed and believable.
A sweet, sweet story about... growing up and learning to communicate. The heroine always knew she'd been adopted, but her mother discouraged her learning anything about her birth parents. Now her mother has died and left her information on the woman she's always wanted to know about. Her lawyer makes arrangements for a PI to find the woman, except the investigator is an ex-boyfriend of the heroine's. They broke up when he unexpectedly asked her to marry him and agree to a certain number of children. The heroine didn't want any-- she's afraid she can't take care of them-- and he walked out. Then he married someone else and had a son right away. That marriage didn't work out, and now the chance for a rekindling of the romance pops up. It's a nice story, with some real complications, which didn't seem so complicated while I was reading it. The characters obsessed over some things that seemed kinda trivial and skimmed right over others that seemed more stress-worthy. A lot of things happen, and yet the story felt a little light on plot to me, which probably goes back to the emphasis the story placed on what seemed to me to be weird things. It's a good story, worth reading.
This was a great book!! To be honest, it felt like the author knew my story. It starts out with an adopted daughter who finds her birth mother, (same here) learns she has a sister, (same here) and a niece. (same here!) I'm not sure if I liked this book because I could relate to how Lisa felt or if it was just written really good. Probably both.
This was heavy on exposition which wasn't overly engaging. I skimmed ahead however the resolution of what was happening with the child in this book was a bit disappointing as it was not what I expected. It felt like the child was merely a plot device in the end.
This book promised much but was such a disappointment. Basic emotions, Mary Poppins type characterisation, and little conflict. I am still sugar-shocked.
