Prolific picture-book natural historian Jim Arnosky explores the world of alligators in this engaging work of non-fiction for younger children. From the anatomy and reproductive biology of these reptiles, to their important role in their watery ecosystems, a wide variety of alligator-related topics is covered...

Originally published in 1994, All About Alligators was the first of what would eventually prove to be ten titles in Arnosky's All About series, highlighting different kinds of animals for the picture-book set. The text is simple but informative, and the accompanying watercolor artwork is appealing. My only criticism would be the absence of any list of sources and/or further reading. Leaving that aside, I'd recommend this one to young animal lovers and ecologists, from around four to eight years old.

I love Jim Arnosky's books! His illustrations are always so wonderful and this book teaches the reader a lot about alligators.

interesting quote:

"A baby alligator's repeated call of 'YeeOck!, YeeOck!' quickly brings a mother alligator to the rescue." (p. 19 - unpaged)

This book is appropriate for grades 2-4. I would use this book to teach the students about reptiles by providing them an example of one: an alligator! This book contains many facts about an alligator. An alligator has some traits that all reptiles have so I would use this book in the explain portion and leave it out for the children to use in the elaborate portion of a 5E lesson plan.

A great little book about alligators. The language is geared towards third graders but with a little explanation this works well for smaller kids as well. It gives an opportunity to talk about very interesting aspects about alligators such as their life cycle as well as various adaptations that they possess. Of course, the ecological importance of these animals is also emphasized. All of this in conjunction with a series of beautiful water color illustrations by Arnosky. I cannot wait to explore other books in this series. I can certainly highly recommend this book to all families interested in natural history. A gem!

In All About Alligators, it shows how these animals grow and live, answering kids' biggest questions about alligators? For example, Where do alligators live? What do alligators eat? How big do they get? What sounds do they make? There's information about crocodiles, too. This book is packed with intriguing information and brought to life by vibrant watercolors.

engaging exploration of these fascinating reptiles, offering young readers a glimpse into their habitat, behavior, and unique characteristics. In the classroom, to reinforce their understanding of alligators, have students draw a picture or write a short paragraph about an imaginary adventure with an alligator. They can use the information from the reading to make their stories more interesting.

This book is, as the title says, all about alligators. It teaches the reader about the different types of alligators as well as the different places that they live. It also tells the reader all about the types of food they eat, as well as about the different sounds they make.

I liked this book a lot and would definitely use it to teach my students about alligators.

This book is all about alligators. Alligators are reptiles and reptiles are cold-blooded animals. This means that these animals control their body temperature by moving to a warmer or cooler place. Alligators have very powerful jaws and hunt for other animals. They spend half of their time in the water and can live in many different bodies of water. Mothers are very protective of their babies, so be careful if you ever see a baby alligator!

I thought that this was a very good informational book.

I would use this when talking about reptiles but this would not be a "carpet time" story.

This book is exactly what it sounds like; all about alligators. From where they live, what kind of animal they are, how they hatch, and different features on their bodies, this book will inform readers all about alligators. This book also discusses a few of the differences between a crocodile and an alligator, which often times get confused for one another.
